Chapter 220: We have to draw a line
Andrew took control of the car. He decided that as soon as they got to the lobby that Maxwell was in no state to drive. How he even managed to drive here confused, and worried him. Who let him get behind a wheel?
Maxwell knew better than to let Andrew drive when he was worked up, so who the hell allowed Maxwell, in the state that he had been in all day, to get into and drive his car here?
It all became clear when the duo stepped outside, hand in hand, and Andrew saw that the parking spot was empty, and a familiar black car was waiting outside. Maxwell chuckled, and Andrew turned towards him.
"You looked so worried that I held my tongue. Do you think Ben would have let me drive?" Andrew was a little embarrassed at the lack of faith he’d had in his siblings, but at the same time, they hadn’t been around to help him, had they?
...Or, like Andrew, Maxwell kept everyone who cared about him at a distance. Yeah, Andrew felt a little bad.
Not apologising, since it wasn’t Maxwell who had doubted, but Ben and Amir, Andrew led Maxwell to the car. He opened the door for Maxwell, letting him get in first before he walked around the back and got in beside him. He tucked his bag into his footwell, but before the driver could get moving, Maxwell changed seats.
As a man who hated sitting in the middle, Maxwell shifted over, taking Andrew’s hand in his and leaning against his shoulder. Andrew was gobsmacked. This was beyond Maxwell being starved for touch, there was something much deeper going on if Maxwell was behaving like this around others. Even if it was a driver.
Maxwell knew everything was reported back to his parents, or at the very least, his Father. So this behaviour was for sure going to be reported back to them. Well, Andrew knew that they knew something was up, since Maxwell had cracked, Luis and Kim drove him home last night, and Ben and Amir stayed with him last night.
"Are we ready to go?" The driver asked tentatively, clearly making sure that Maxwell’s unusual behaviour was okay. Andrew looked at Maxwell, unsure. Maxwell reached across Andrew, buckling him in before he sighed, leaning against his shoulder again.
"We’re ready to leave." Maxwell said. He at least sounded more like himself, confident, focused. It was just how that contradicted his actions.
Andrew swallowed.
