Chapter 108: A very normal heat, all things considered
Maxwell sat nervously, twitching with every sound that came from behind him. If he was honest with himself, it wasn’t just Andrew who was worried about people entering the house.
Maxwell was too. He was worried that they would see him and how he had been. What he had been during his most recent heat. It felt...hell, he hadn’t even discussed the details with Andrew yet. It felt too fresh, too new to be discussing it with him yet. That, and his heat wasn’t full over yet.
Needless to say, it was a lot, and Dr. Smith and Kim arriving when they did, it had sent Andrew into a fit. Maxwell could sense it, and the pheromones that had leaked from him warned of possession. Of defense. And Maxwell had to pretend that he wasn’t as hard as a rock the whole fucking time either.
That was an unfortunate side effect of being in a prolonged heat like Maxwell’s. Almost all pheromones turned you on, even against your will. It was a tragedy, since some people liked to use that against omegas like him. They got off on being mean and rude to omegas, and thought that just because the omega’s body was reacting that they were getting off too.
It was a terrible psychological affair, and Maxwell had seen the aftereffects of it in person.
The alpha who had done that to his relative was now dead, and Maxwell was never going to admit by whose hands any time soon.
"Mr. Beckett? I believe that Andrew is far enough away to not be able to hear our conversation. Are you ready to speak? And do you mind if we take some blood just to measure your levels? We can never be too safe, especially since this is your first heat with a true alpha." Dr. Smith speaking to him shook him from his thoughts, and Maxwell was grateful for it.
It was never good to dwell on that filth.
"Of course." Maxwell shifted, offering his arm and watched as Dr. Smith nervously glanced at the kitchen entryway where Andrew had parked himself. Honestly, Maxwell couldn’t blame him.
Up until this point during their time together, Andrew had been the perfect gentlemen. His eyes had sometimes gone amber, but he’d been kind, considerate, and very loving. The Andrew on display right now?
This Andrew’s eyes hadn’t shifted from amber since the first knock on the door. His glasses didn’t even hide the pure displeasure of having others here. It was...almost scary how quickly he had changed, but at the same time, Maxwell found it incredibly attractive. This new side of Andrew wasn’t something that scared Maxwell.
