Chapter 29: Baking your problems away
An awkward silence filled the kitchen. Andrew had a feeling he knew why.
It was clear that Michael hadn’t expected anyone else to be here, and it was obvious the Mr. Beckett thought he had more time to grill Andrew alone. So the two were at an impass. And it didn’t appear as if either one of them wanted to back down.
So while they were having a standoff, Andrew kept baking. By the time either one of them spoke up, Andrew had finished another batch of cookies and was getting started on the scones.
"Andy, we need to go over your results." Michael said, throwing looks in Mr. Beckett’s direction. It was clear he was uncomfortable talking about it with him around, but Andrew knew better. Whatever Michael told him would eventually get back to him, so this was just a fast track in his mind.so what if he was here? What more could he do to hurt him? He was already kicked out of his industry, and he’d been changed against his will. He could try to hurt him more, but at this point, Andrew wasn’t sure what else he could do.
"Okay." Michael gave him a look, and Andrew shrugged.
"Are you sure?" He asked, really making sure that Andrew knew that Maxwell’s Father was still in the room. Andrew rolled his eyes.
"Let’s not be kids about this, Michael. The reality is that Mr. Beckett is going to hear about this sooner rather than later. What’s the problem if he hears it a little bit sooner?" Andrew felt a small smile on his lips as he kneaded the dough for the scones. "So, what’s the situation, Dr. Smith?" He asked, turning a blinding smile in his direction.
Michael stared at the man who’d had his life turned upside down in the last week, before he sighed, shaking his head. He gave Andrew an exasperated look, before he opened his bag and pulled out the papers.
Walking over to Andrew, he showed him the results. Andrew, having some understanding, appreciated that Michael was being so considerate.
