Arc 3 Chapter 5: “Let’s Go to the Adventurer’s Guild”
The cityscape of Resinbark was complicatedly intricate, like a huge maze.
There were hardly any roads that could be called main streets. The arrangement and structure of houses and alleys were varied, and the only thing neatly aligned was the color of the red bricks. The whole town was like a big dungeon.
Walking along, Land narrowed his eyes as if looking at something nostalgic.
"In the beginning, everyone just built houses however they liked."
"There was no city planning or anything."
"It's like a hodgepodge stew, isn't it?"
Yui was looking around kyoro-kyoro with interest.
"But it's fun."
"Right?"
"I like it too. This town."
The two winked boastfully. As Yui said, it was a messy but fun cityscape.
People's faces are bright. A person selling loudly. A person delivering by bicycle. A person who looks like an adventurer walking triumphantly carrying a sword. Children running around happily, perhaps playing tag. Liveliness leaks out from everywhere.
And then, exploding sounds. Burning houses. A suspicious figure jumping across roofs. A woman laughing while charred black. An old man raising a war cry. Lightning magic passing right next to us. A bread roll flying suddenly. A naked man running through with a backstep. A housewife swinging a kitchen knife and jumping into a shop. A large man flying through a wall.
Huh? Something is strange.
"Is that okay?"
"What is?"
"No, like that. Not stopping them."
Right in front of us, a young man and woman were grappling with each other.
The man has scratches on his face, and the woman's face is swollen.
Now they are pinching each other's cheeks. The onlookers around them are cheering them on.
On the side, a shrewd merchant started selling drinks.
"I love you more!"
"No! I love you much more!"
Then why fight until you become so tattered?
I wanted to retort unintentionally, but then the two jumped back and took stances.
"Spirits of Fire. Carve my love into this stubborn fool! [Clerify]!"
"Spirits of Fire. Teach my love to this obstinate woman! [Clerify]!"
Bright red flames flew out simultaneously from the palms of both. They collided in the center, flared up violently, and created a beautiful heart mark.
Yellow cheers of Hyu-Hyu rose from the onlookers.
"You're quite good! As expected of my man!"
"You too! The woman I fell in love with at first sight!"
" "I love youuuuuu!" "
The two jumped in and matched their fists. A flash of light occurred ka!, and a big explosion of love swirled around the two.
As for the onlookers, they had put up defensive magic and were firmly protecting themselves.
To me and Yui who were watching blankly,
"This is an everyday occurrence."
Sil said casually.
............
『Yui. I'm already starting to worry about this journey.』
『What a coincidence. I was just thinking the same thing.』
Eventually, we came out to a slightly wider street and walked for a while.
Standing out among the red brick buildings, there was a ridiculously huge white-painted building.
"We've arrived. The guide ends here."
That seems to be the Adventurer's Guild.
When we approached, the name was indeed written hugely on a large wooden signboard.
"Well then, we'll leave you here. Take care."
"Thank you very much."
"It really helped."
Then Sil said as if she remembered.
"Ah, that's right. You need 50 Jits as a registration fee, do you have money—"
I and Yui smiled wryly and shook our heads.
I see. So a registration fee is needed.
"Can't be helped. I'll lend it to you."
Land put his hand in his waist pocket and took out a worn-out leather wallet.
I put a stop to it.
"That's too bad of us to accept. Let's go with an exchange for goods."
"Really?"
Pretending to take it out of my pocket, I search for something that looks like it could be money from the 『World of Heart』.
Found it. This should be fine. The size is also perfect.
"It's a grain of gold dust. How much will it be?"
"Hee. You have good stuff. Sil. You're good at appraisal, right?"
"Yes, yes."
Sil picked up the grain of gold dust lightly from Land's hand and observed it closely.
"With this purity and size... well, about 500 Jits."
Land grabbed five crumpled bills from his wallet and handed them over.
"Here."
"Thanks."
On the bill with 100 Jits written on the face, a portrait of a beautiful woman named Lana was drawn. Even the watermark to prevent counterfeiting is firmly included.
"I'll sell this for 800 Jits later. I'll take the profit as a handling fee."
Land let out a slightly amazed smile, "Haha."
"You rip them off quite a bit. Couldn't you give them another 100 Jits?"
"Land is naive. We are not doing charity work. It's a selling price because of my negotiation skills. With such naive-looking ducks, the punchline would be getting beaten down to 200 or so."
Naive-looking, she says.
I exchange glances with Yui.
"That... well, maybe so."
Even Land agreed. Do we really look like that?
"It's fine, it's fine. As long as we have money to live for the time being."
From there, we'll manage by ourselves somehow.
"Good, good. You understand. It helps that you are honest."
Sil gripped the gold dust with a satisfied face.
Yui asks casually.
"Do you know any cheap inns around here?"
"Then the guild there is fine. They also run an inn and a tavern, and I'm sure you could stay for about 30 Jits."
"Understood. Really, thank you for everything."
"Don't mention it. Well then, we have other business. See you sometime."
"Un. See you."
We waved our hands and said goodbye for now.
" "Haaah——" "
We sat facing each other at a table in the tavern and slumped down together.
"Tired."
"Really."
We thrust our faces close to each other's noses and laugh together.
The first day of a journey is a series of unfamiliar things, and nerves are taut, so it's really tiring. Even that feeling of fatigue feels pleasant when collapsing like this.
Adventurer registration was completed easily.
There are ranks from E to SS, there are requests that won't come around unless the rank is above a certain level, stories about materials, rewards, contract money, and so on; we had a long explanation about those things.
How should I put it, in a word, it was a story like a game. We start from E Rank, of course.
Suddenly, my eyes stop on Yui's chest. Thrown carelessly on the table, it is crushed munyun.
Looking from the viewing side again, it's quite a volume, even if I say so myself.
Uwa. Even the cleavage is firmly visible.
But Yui didn't seem to care even if she showed it to me. In a defenseless posture, she is directing a smiling face saying "Hmm?" at me.
This girl. Just because she is fine in the 『World of Heart』 but I react unintentionally here, she isn't doing it on purpose because it's funny, is she?
I hurriedly averted my eyes from her chest, looked firmly at her face, and asked.
"What should we do now?"
"Shall we have dinner for now?"
"Agreed."
Just then, our stomachs growled in good timing.
Opening the menu, we worry while discussing this and that. In situations like this, everything starts to look delicious, and it's hard to decide.
After a while, a cute waitress wearing an apron dress came. She has brown hair tied back.
"Have you decided on your order?"
"Hmm. Is there any recommendation?"
"If so, how about the 'Adventurer's Hard-Work Hearty Set' for today?"
"Then that."
"Same for me."
"Yes. Two of them. How about alcohol?"
" "Milk, please." "
We answered immediately together. I will never drink alcohol again. No way.
While waiting for the food to arrive, I and Yui were relaxing. The sun had completely set, and the tavern was filled with noisy heat, wai-wai gaya-gaya.
Yui said while swinging her legs pura-pura.
"Something like this is fresh, isn't it?"
"Hmm?"
"Talking with Yu, who is usually stuck together, in the outside world like this. And talking normally with other people too."
Yui looked around the surroundings with eyes watching something heartwarming somehow, and returned her gaze to me again.
"There are mysterious things like this when traveling. I'm having a lot of fun right now."
"Me too. It's very fun to be able to travel side by side with you."
We nod to each other. Somehow I became happy.
"Let's investigate the cause of separation later. From now on, let's make lots of memories in this world."
"Oh—"
I exchanged a high five with Yui.
The food came. Vegetables and meat are on an iron plate, raising steam thickly.
As expected of the "Hearty Set," the volume of meat is tremendous.
" "Itadakimasu." "
One bite simultaneously.
The meat tastes like lamb, and although the seasoning is rough, the sauce is effective. Very delicious.
"It's delicious."
"Un."
Maybe I should look up the recipe and try making it next time.
And, while we were smacking our lips for a while.
Suddenly, an angry roar echoed from the table over there.
"What is it! Are you saying you can't listen to what I (Ore-sama) say!?"
"H-Hiii..."
A large man with red hair was holding up a man of medium build. The man being held up is bleeding dara-dara from his forehead.
"The reward is all mine! It's natural!"
"N-No way..."
The one bleeding protests weakly, but the large man didn't seem to listen.
Eventually, the large man started beating him up boko-boko in front of everyone. He raises painful groans.
"Ah-a. It's that guy Gind again."
"I heard he rose to B Rank recently."
"Just because he has half-baked ability..."
"Isn't he doing a little too much?"
I hear whispering voices. He seems to be called Gind.
"The food will taste bad if we leave him alone. Let's make him stop."
"Shall I do it quickly with magic?"
"No. That won't be necessary. I'll go."
Then, the waitress who brought the "Adventurer's Hard-Work Hearty Set" walked out to Gind. She boldly intervened to stop him.
"Customer. It will be a nuisance to other customers..."
"Shut up!"
The violently raised arm attacks her.
"Hii!"
The fist that was supposed to hurt her, however, did not hit.
I, who intervened instantly, caught Gind's arm with one hand and called out gently.
"Now, now. Calm down a little. Look, everyone is watching."
"Aaah!? Are you trying to butt into other people's business!?"
To the enraged Gind, I say soothingly.
"Don't say that. I'll treat you to a drink."
"Hah. Brat. Who do you think I (Ore-sama) am! I'm Gind-sama of B Rank!"
Yare-yare. Good grief. He's completely drunk and blood has rushed to his head.
"Who the hell are you!"
"Yu. I just registered with the guild today. Nice to meet you."
Gind floated a grin niyari characteristic of a bad person. Don't tell me he intends to do it.
"Hoh. A rookie E Rank is cheeky. I have to give you a plentiful greeting!"
It was such a cheap development that I almost smiled wryly unintentionally.
The fist that swung down was slower than imagined. With this, I could avoid it even with my eyes closed.
I continue to dodge his attacks with minimum necessary movements. His fists cut through the air vainly, just barely missing.
"Calm down already. I don't intend to do anything."
However, it seems his pride didn't allow being made a fool of by a brat (as he thinks) who is wet behind the ears.
It would have been good if he noticed the difference in ability with the movements just now. Unfortunately, he wasn't that smart.
"Ku, ku. This brat! Licking me while moving around rapidly! It seems you won't understand unless you encounter a really painful experience!"
Gind drew his sword.
This is bad. I thought about settling it as peacefully as possible, but this exceeds the acceptable level as expected.
Can't be helped. It's dangerous if someone gets involved if this continues any longer. I'll have him sleep a little.
The moment the man swung his sword down, I deviated just one step from the sword line and closed the distance.
First, I struck his wrist with a hand sword and made him drop the sword.
Before he knew what was happening due to the quick work, I unleashed a kick.
Just neutralizing him. Lightly should be enough.
Putting just a little strength. Ei.
DOGGARAGASSHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
The man broke through the door of the tavern entrance and flew away vigorously.
...Huh?
The man who was slammed strongly against the wall of the house on the other side fainted in a miserable figure turned upside down, convulsing piku-piku.
...Huuuh?
"Awesome! You did it, kid!"
"To think you blew away that disgusting Gind!"
"That felt refreshing!"
Great cheers of yanya-yanya rise from the surroundings.
I, none other than the one who did it, was in the midst of confusion.
Why, even though I just kicked lightly? Wasn't he blown away too much?
Anyway, since I broke the door flashily, I bow to the master of the tavern.
"I'm sorry. I will compensate for it eventually."
"It's fine. Something like this happens all the time. More than that, I also felt refreshed. Thank you for saving Misha."
"Yu-san. Thank you very much."
"N-No. I was saved too."
Waitress Misha and the man who was being beaten bow their heads.
I, who still haven't come out of confusion, respond with a pasted smile for the time being.
"Yu. Too much."
When I returned to the table, I was hit on the head kotsun by Yui.
"Ugh, sorry. I didn't intend to blow him away so flashily, but..."
"Is that so? I was watching, but it was a tremendous kick."
"That much?"
"That much."
Strange. Did I mistake the adjustment?
Anyway. Although it got a little cold, the Hearty Set had excellent volume and was delicious.
We, whose stomachs were also full, took a room at the guild inn and decided to spend our first night in this world.
