Chapter 55: Butterfly Death (End of Volume 1:Dreams)

Frenley stands in front of the invisible boundary between the castle hall and the large garden. Standing to his right was Mia, strong, proud, and tall. Her large ice greatsword rested on her shoulder, her other hand on her hip. Her long hair was hidden away by the helmet she wore. On his left side was Risa, wearing her signature blood red robe. A robe that hid her curves and femininity perfectly. Her silver-colored fox ears stood ready and at attention. Her tails swinging side to side, her long silver hair free-flowing.

Frenley looked at his leather armor and his cloak. He swung his sword around in his right hand, his magical focus on his left hand. They came to the boss the moment they woke up in the dream; there were no rewards waiting for them, no level up or anything. The building was quiet when they woke up, as if the world itself were waiting for them.

“So today it's the day and night,” Frenley said softly.

“I said we did some pretty good time. Two weeks ago we saw this place from afar; now we are in its bowls. “ Risa said, her hand tight around her staff.

“Oh man, I am getting a bit sentimental. All those deaths and hard fights. Just to stand here.” Mia said with a bit of emotion in her tone.

Frenley patted Risa on the back. The short woman looked at him, confused for a second, before her eyes widened in realization. She used her skill, letting golden tears fall down her cheek. After she was done, she wiped away the tears with her hand, and Frenley wiped the residue with a wet thumb.

“Okay, so this is a main boss, to no one's surprise. Then there is something like a key? No clue what that means.”

“Well, better that nothing, y'all ready?” Frenley said, looking at the girls. They nodded their head.

Together they took a single step into the garden. Then another one. Once fully inside the garden, a wall of flames appeared behind them. The garden looked majestic, with large flowers and trees. Small butterflies flew around without a care in the world. The party looked around, trying to find the boss, till Mia’s eyes wandered up.

The garden was built inside a cavern; there was no sun or moon up high. But only a ceiling of stone and darkness. Risa's ears perked up, moving around as she picked up sound. She, too, looked up, but towards a specific spot. Frenley, not wanting to be left out, looked up as well. Something up there, in the shadows of the cavern ceiling, was moving.

Metal dragged across stone. Soon, a figure began to take shape within the womb of the shadows. Before its own weight pulled it down and made it crash in front of the party. A cloud of dust and dirt covered their eyes as a gust of wind hit them. As the wind and dust settled down. The boss became clear.

A large suit of black armor. The armor pieces seemed to have a mind of their own as they clicked together, moving like lungs. From above, tiny pieces of metal slowly reassembled into a large, brutal waraxe. The metal golem slowly stood to a full height of seven feet. Its heavy axe rested on its hands. Smoke puffed out from the small opening between metal plates. Then a voice came from the golem, robotic and emotionless.

“Stop there, criminals and heretics. For your sins against life, I sentence you to slavery. For your crimes against the kingdom-” The golem aimed its axe at the group. “I sentence you to death.”

“Hard to do that when we will just respawn,” Frenley said as he swung his sword around.

Mia took the vanguard, Frenley behind her, and Risa next to him. The golem said nothing else as it rushed them. Mia rushed forward as well. When she arrived at her destination, five steps away from the charging golem, she stopped. She swung her great sword, causing the golem to stop and defend itself with its right arm. The great sword hit the metal plate; the only thing that happened was ice magic spreading across it like snakes.

But ice is nothing to a construct of magic and metal. The metal golem pulled its right arm back and punched Mia in the side with speed she could not react to. Mia went flying, blood spilling from the corner of her mouth. She pushed her sword into the soft ground of the garden, stopping her movement as she carved a straight line into the ground.

Frenley appeared in front of the golem, his invisibility dropping. He aimed his left hand at the space between two armor plates. He shot an ice shard into it. The ice shard entered the golem's body and exploded. Pieces of ice crashed against the armor, making small dents in it, but doing little damage. Frenley takes a step back, dodging by a hair's breadth an axe attack.

As the attack landed on the ground, it picked up a small dust of dust that blocked Frenley's vision. Frenley dodged backward, just in time for Mia to appear in front of him. Then, in quick succession, she enchanted her defense. She placed her greatsword in front of her, blocking the punch attack that pierced the dust cloud.

From behind them, two large wolves came rushing. Risa had small wounds around her body. The wolves began attacking the golem, distracting it. Mia rushed forward under the cover of the wolves' attack. She aimed her sword at the space between the metal plate of the ankle and the foot. The sword passed through the space like there was nothing there. The golem didn't even react as he cut one of the wolves in half.

Frenley shot two ice shards between two armor plates. In an area that could only be described as the chest. Like before, the magic exploded inside the golem. Its ice shards hit the armor plates from inside, making small dents in them. But something happened: the golem took a step back. The magic that kept the metal plates floating fluttered for a second before it started attacking again.

Risa noticed this from the back. Her eyes narrowed as she saw her last wolf bite into the metal plate of the ankle, the golem raise its feet, and then crash them down. Taking the wolf out with it. Frenley and Mia fought the boss with all they had, their attacks doing nothing more than chip away at the paint of the armor. Risa raised her staff as she began to channel magic, activating her staff's ability. Her wounds became larger; more blood started to flow, in turn increasing her magic power.

Soon, a large magical ball appeared in front of Risa, her golden eyes narrowed on the occupied golem as she shot it towards its chest. Mia and Frenley were enchanting blows with the golem; Mia's sword sent ice into the metal plates with every strike. Frenley's sword only chipped away at the paint of the armor and caused sparks to fly.

Soon, the magical ball channel with six points of magic hit the golem in the chest plates. A deafening explosion entered Mia’s and Frenley's ears as they took a step back and tried to cover themselves. Chunks of metal flew, like sharp shrapnel; they cut into the couple's skin. But as the dust settled, the trio got to look at the damage Risa had caused.

A large chunk of the chest plates was gone, destroyed and littering the ground. But deep inside the chest cavity of the golem was a floating blue orb. It had a small indentation. Soon, the golem began to shine with magic as it rearranged the metal plates. Making itself smaller. The metal plates became closer together, as the golem now stood at five feet. The metal plates now ground against each other with every breath the golem took.

“THE CORE! THAT'S THE KEY!”

Risa's words woke up Mia and Frenley as they rushed to attack the smaller golem while Risa drank her mana potion and readied herself. The golem swung its axe around with greater precision, speed running through every single attack it did. Mia tried to dodge or block the attack as best she could, but not everything went according to plan. Her feet gave beneath her as the axe of the golem cut her in half. Her upper body fell next to her lower body as blood fed the garden.

“MIA!!!!”

The remaining two scream out her name. A moment of pause, enough for the golem to cut Frenley’s head clean from his shoulder. Then, using the nearby metal shards, the golem hurls them like bullets towards Risa. It puts holes all around her body, letting her lifeless body hit the floor.

The trio watches as the golem shrinks again to five feet. Now ready for what is to come, Frenley and Mia tighten their grip on their weapons. The golem charges them with great speed, swinging its fast axe towards Mia. Frenley channels his magic and teleports into the side of the golem; as his feet touch the ground, a wave of ice magic coats the cold metal plates. The golem moves an inch back, allowing Mia to hit the body of the axe with her greatsword. Stopping the axe mid-attack.

Risa clicks the butt of her staff against the ground, causing large black tentacles to rise and hold the golem's left leg in place. The shadow tentacles pierced the metal with ease. Frenley pushed his left hand into a small gap between chest plates. He shot two ice shards into the boss. Causing them to explode inside. The ice shards grazed the golem core, causing it to falter for two seconds.

Enough for Risa to send an eight-mind-point ball of magic empowered by her staff ability into the chest of the golem. The short girl fell to her knees as she started to drink another mana potion and a healing potion. The ball of magic exploded when it came into contact with the golem's chest, sending Mia and Frenley flying. Frenley lost his left hand in the explosion, and a groan of pain left him as his body crashed into the ground.

Frenley took out a healing potion and drank it, letting his hand regrow. Mia drinks a healing potion as well, as her face was completely burned from the explosion. Soon, the dust settled, and a large, gaping hole was left in the golem's chest. More plates of armor fell to the side in pieces.

The core had small indentations on its surface. Frenley grinds his teeth as he teleports into the chest of the golem before it starts to fix the hole. Ice magic coated the insides of the plates as they rearranged themselves, the space becoming tighter. Frenley wrapped his left hand around the core and shot his ice shard into it.

The ice shard pierced the magic core and exploded inside of it before it even came out the other side. The ice shards made small holes all around the core, as cracks started to appear. One second passed; the metal plates stopped. Two seconds passed; the metal plates started to shake. Three seconds passed; the metal plates fell down as the magic ended.

The battle had been won; the magic core crumbled to dust in Frenley's hand. A large smile split his face.

“Ailice has not spoken!”

Risa's words woke him up as he got off the golem, ready for phase two. But the plates of armor lay there, lifeless and cold. But from the other side of the garden, the gates swung open as a fat man. Holding a small dagger rushed them. He was wearing a very decorated outfit. Beads of sweat ran down his face, madness in his eyes. Mia took a step forward and swung her greatsword at the man, cutting him in half.

‘Main boss defeated, level up available’

“What the fuck?” Said a stunned Fey.

Frenley groans as he wakes up, after fighting the main boss and getting to the resting place in front of a large elevator. They decided to call it quits for tonight. Frenley looked around; two beautiful naked girls curled up against his body. The smell of sex and lust from last night still lingered in the room. A large smile painted Frenley's face as he ran his hand down Mia’s sleeping face.

The girls started to wake up as well, right on time, as Frenley's alarm sounded.

“FUCK! IT'S MONDAY!”

Mia said with wide eyes as she got out of bed, in all of her naked glory, as she rushed to the bathroom.

“There is shampoo and hair conditioner in there! Your toothbrush is the yellow one!”

“¡Gracias, mi amor!” (Thanks, my love)

The tall woman said from across the apartment.

“Morning, handsome.”

“Morning beutiful, I shall go and get ready as well,” Frenley said as he planted a soft kiss on Risa's cheek.

He got out of bed and started with his normal routine, only this time there were two beautiful women in his apartment to keep him busy. Mia was the first to leave, as she needed to get her clothes in her apartment. The tall woman ran with all of her might. Frenley kissed Risa goodbye, the girl putting on her dress from last night. But he noticed she was taking one of his shirts again.

Like that, Monday passed by, and Frenley and Mia got to work late. Their lunch break was spent together with Risa. The rest of the workday went by slowly, till it was time to go. Frenley waited outside the building for Mia, even though the two of them live nowhere close. Frenley was determined to spend more time with her if he could.

But as he waited, he heard the sound of people talking loudly. He brought his eyes off his phone as he noticed a man wearing an old, dirty knight's armor. No hair on his head, a beard so dirty it was a disrespect for all men. The man's face was caked with old blood, making Frenley narrow his eyes. Soon the crazy person locked eyes with Frenley, and it was then that he noticed.

The flames of madness deep within the man’s eyes and the blood knife in his hand. Frenley's body froze; primal fear coursed through him as the man rushed towards him. Frenley tried to rationalize what was going on, but it was too late, and the man was already onto him. The man dug his blood knife deep into Frenley's gut and, like lightning, awakened an old machine. Frenley's body went into autopilot.

Frenley grabbed the man’s wrist to hold him in place as he delivered an elbow attack into the man’s chin. This caused the man to let go of the knife and stunned him. Frenley ignored the pain, for he had experienced worse. He pulled the knife out of his gut and let the blood flow, staining his working clothes. The knight took a step back as he summoned his long sword, aiming to cut Frenley down.

Frenley rushed forward, letting the rusty sword hit his left shoulder and dig into his skin. The sword got stuck on his bone, sending a wave of pain that threatened to knock Frenley out. But he held on, as he aimed the dagger into the man’s eye. Pushing the dagger into the hilt, letting the blade pierce the bone of the skull and the brain.

The knight let go of the sword as his lifeless body fell to the ground, and with it so did Frenley. The loud cry of a tall woman fell oddly quiet as it reached his ears.

Then everything went black.
