Chapter 37
To say Yue was worried about Alex would be an understatement.
She had seen what violence could do to a man after her older brother Tian self-exiled himself to Kowloon because of what he had to do and how much that changed him.
...But the scariest part was how calm Alex was about it.
Maybe it was since he was still just a kid, but if he HAD already gotten blood on his hands that night where they went to save April and Serena...
...He didn't have any signs of it. No nightmares, no questions about where people went when they died, nothing. As if nothing had happened.
"Yue?" Serena tilted her head.
Hearing the questioning tone, Yue realized she'd trailed off into her own thoughts. She shook her head and said, "Sorry, Rina. Just... lost in thoughts."
This time, Serena reached out her hand to squeeze Yue's. "It'll be fine. Alex is a good boy."
Right.
Despite everything, that much was true.
Yue was sure of it.
Even if Alex already had blood on his hands, that fact didn't change.
Yue's adorable nephew loved her like his mother. He cherished April enough to declare it was destiny that he would make her happy. And he got along with Serena as well as that Tyrone Reynolds.
There were PLENTY of questions Yue had about Alex. Like how he always knew what investments would make the most money and how he seemed to instinctively know how to use the cutting edge technology...
But while Yue didn't know how he did that, she DID know that he had decided to revolve his life around them too. And that everything he did was for their sakes.
...It was weird considering that was coming from a five year old.
And honestly, Yue probably shouldn't be relying so much on her precious nephew either. But...
Yue sipped her wine and smiled. "Yeah. It'll be fine. My son's a good kid."
Serena teased. "Son, huh~?"
Yue froze and turned a bright red. "Th-that's... It's a figure of speech! I love him like a son! I mean... Gah, stupid wine...!"
Serena giggled. "It's okay. He already calls you Mom. The Lord knows that it's already a done deal."
Yue huffed and drained her glass. "Yeah. Tell that to my big sister whenever she and her husband comes knocking... Ugh." She rubbed her forehead. "I still don't know what I'm going to say to them..."
Serena paused. "...Will it be that big of a problem?"
"Yes. No. I mean..." Yue let out a sigh. "I don't know. From how Alex is, it seems like they weren't good parents to him. But I know they love him. Big Sis definitely does. But she also feels incredibly guilty for not being able to be a proper mother. If she sees how Alex is reacting around me..." Yue bit her lips, imagining it.
Heartbroken.
That was the only outcome from this. That, and betrayed.
But at the same time...
'I didn't do anything wrong.'
Yue drained her glass and reflected on that.
Nothing. She had done nothing wrong.
If anything, Mei and Wang had done things wrong.
Leaving their only child alone like that. No, deciding to have a child so recklessly in the first place...
They were doing their best, sure. But a child needed a parent around, not just home and food. Attention, someone present.
Neither Mei nor Wang could provide that.
Yue could.
So...
'I'm not wrong. And I won't let them take him back.'
Yue adored Alex. No, she loved him like her own child. And she knew, she KNEW that he was better off with her.
So even if it meant Yue had to betray and go against her big sister...
She'd do it.
At that time, Serena's voice echoed, breaking Yue's train of thoughts. "You're not alone, Yue."
Yue looked up and saw Serena giving a reassuring smile.
Serena lightly squeezed Yue's hand and said, "We're in this together. It's the least I can do for everything you've done for me and April."
Yue smiled. "Thanks, Rina."
Serena giggled. "Thank you. After all, you give me and April a roof, food, and even a job." She winked. "I'm your dedicated maid, remember? I even have a W2!"
Yue laughed. "Damned right you do." When she finished laughing, she shifted her gaze back to Alex and said, "Maybe Al's right. Destiny... I guess some things really are like that, huh?"
It was destiny that led Alex to her. And it was destiny that led April and Serena into their lives.
Yue smiled. "I'm not very religious... but thank God for all of this."
Serena's eyes softened and she clasped her hands in prayer. "Yes... Thank the Lord for providing us with this miracle after all the hardships in our life."
Yue glanced back at Alex and April, both hogging up the bed. Then she smiled and said, "Well, since those two are hogging up the bed, I guess we'll have to share the other one, right?"
Serena blushed and shook her head. "I-It's okay. I can sleep on the couch..."
"Nope. April had the right idea." Yue smiled and stood up, holding Serena's hand. "I've never had a sleepover either. Let's share a bed and chat until we sleep."
"Y-Y-Yes? I-I mean if you want...?" Serena's face turned red, but she let out a happy smile and followed Yue to bed.
===
Early morning. November 16th. A Tuesday. The day after we first checked into our week long hotel stay.
When I woke up, April was completely draped around me like I was her plushy.
Objectively, it was cute and adorable.
Subjectively, I was in a pinch.
Literally. Like, I couldn't breathe very well.
"Mm... Alex. Love you... Kissy..." April mumbled and wriggled against me.
I sighed. "Kids..."
With some careful maneuvering, I managed to substitute myself with the pillow, leaving April still mumbling to her sleep.
...Something about rings, a white dress, and cake?
Note to self: buy more comic books. Hell, start drawing comic books. Anything to distract April from thoughts about wedding and the moral quandry I had regarding her falling in love with me.
I was NOT about to start grooming a child, dammit.
Maybe I could convince Mama Yue to send me abroad for a bit... Dependency was no good...
Japan seemed nice. I could do a lot there. Korea too.
China...
No, no. If I went there, I was definitely going to pull a Bruce Lee and start challenging martial art schools left and right. No good, no good.
But anyway.
After plopping out of bed, I decided to make some coffee for Mama Yue and Miss Serena.
It was still a bit early. 5 AM judging from the alarm clock LED display.
But Mama Yue probably wanted to get breakfast and everything anyway.
So I walked towards the coffee maker and picked up the coffee pot to fill it up with water and start up the coffee.
As I did though, I noticed the door to the smaller room with the other bed opened.
And there, Mama Yue and Miss Serena were in bed together. Tangled up in a very compromising position.
Objectively, very hot.
Subjectively, !$#@!@#%@#$@#%@##$@#%@#$
I quickly looked away and darted past the door, filling the coffee pot with water and then starting up the coffee maker with the filter and coffee grounds.
After that, I dropped to the floor and started doing push ups.
Anything to get that image out of my head. Ewewew...
...Well, I guess that's one good thing I learned.
Incest is NOT wincest for me. Super grossed out about seeing Mama Yue naked.
Surprisingly, also grossed out about seeing Miss Serena naked. Probably since she's basically like an aunt or another mother figure too with how she hung around.
But how the heck did those two get into that situation anyway...?
At that time, as if by cosmic intervention, an empty wine bottle rolled towards me.
...Ah.
I got up and then gently shut the door on Mama Yue and Miss Serena.
Softly enough they didn't hear it.
Good.
Yep.
Going to pretend I saw nothing, heard nothing, figured nothing out, and had no questions.
That was better for all of us involved.
So back to training. Let's do the Saitama regime minus the running today. Push ups, squats, sit ups...
...But huh. I suppose in the future, that Mama- Or rather, Auntie Yue never DID have a husband. And she was always a bit too handsy with the cute female cousins or the girls my younger brothers brought around...
Hm.
Welp. Cutting off that train of thought.
Onto more train...ing. Training. Right. Training.
One. Two. Three...
...But damn. Teenaged hormones are a thing, huh?
Gotta keep an eye out for that myself. If my composed Mama Yue could end up like that with some wine and a pretty woman, I was terrified of what might happen when April grew up.
She was absolutely my type after all. And she was ALSO dead set on me.
Fuck.
...Well, problem for future me.
I was still a five year old.
Maybe it would work itself out. Somehow.
Either way, not my problem today.
Back to training~
