Reborn As An Overpowered Villain

Ch 55: Lucien’s Affirmation

Lucien was feeling thoroughly flabbergasted on the inside, seeing Charlotte sitting in front of him with red flushed cheeks. She was nothing like her usual self. Though he had witnessed what she could look like yesterday, if drunk beyond reason. Even then, the woman in front of him was not behaving normally in the least, seeing her face so red and flushed as though she were suddenly standing before her most famous idol was something that did not sit right with him at all.

From what he could tell, today she was not drunk in the slightest sense. Yet her purple hair was slightly messier than her usually well-combed state, though it was still combed to fall back and reach her waist, there were messier strands forming around it in a haphazard manner. Her black eyes were strangely trembling as they met his eyes, and her lips seemed to be twitching, waiting to protest whatever he had come to her office for.

Lucien did not know the reason behind her sudden change, but there was something far more pressing he needed to know right now, a topic important enough to take precedence over the reason for her sudden pinkish cheeks and flushed face.

"I want to know why I have only been assigned two classes when I should be having at least three or more to teach, just as I did the previous year." Lucien spoke without waiting any longer, he was feeling uncomfortable watching Charlotte's face grow even more red with each passing second.

"Huh?" Charlotte replied dumbfoundedly.

Lucien felt his eyes twitch at her dumb expression. "I want to know why I have only been assigned two classes to teach." He repeated his question, looking steadily at the vice headmistress who had offered nothing more than a huh.

"Oh, that is the reason for your visit." Charlotte exclaimed with a joy that Lucien felt was entirely unnecessary. She leaned back into her chair and her reddened face slowly dissipated, returning to its normal porcelain white.

She sighed at the end and formed a smile that made Lucien genuinely question internally what was happening with the vice headmistress. Was this the lingering effect of yesterday's alcohol? But being a heaven rank, Charlotte should not still be intoxicated this long after. He shook the theory away to the back of his mind, knowing well enough that the woman could not still be feeling the effects of yesterday's drinking.

"May I know the reason for the sudden change in my schedule." Lucien pressed again, trying to stop his irritation from flaring up as much as possible, because the woman, instead of answering, was looking at him with a smile as though some heavy burden had been lifted off her shoulders.

"You and your impatience." Charlotte murmured, shaking her head.

"I am not impatient, Vice Headmistress, but you are being thoroughly annoying by not answering my question even after I have phrased it three times." Lucien met her gaze evenly. He was having trouble digesting the fact that the woman was calling him impatient, which was thoroughly wrong, because he knew he was patient with most things except for a few particular matters in his life, and he had already waited long enough to receive an answer, yet the woman seemed content saying everything else but that.

Charlotte pinched the bridge of her nose, "How should I answer this." She muttered with visible reluctance. "Your tyrannical teaching has made students complain about you so much that we have collectively decided only the S section can keep up with what you put them through."

"So, we have come to the conclusion that you will be teaching only the S section classes of the first and second years." Charlotte continued, looking at Lucien with a face that plainly said she could not help him in any way.

"It is not tyrannical teaching." Lucien countered evenly, "But rather an exceptional teaching that draws out the full potential of students."

"Yes, it is an exceptional teaching." The vice headmistress nodded her head, genuinely approving of his methods. "But if you are so harsh and give such low grades, the students' future prospects would suffer greatly."

Lucien wanted to speak up, but before he could utter a single word, Charlotte pressed on, "Students would not get into good guilds, and their chances of advancing their careers as adventurers would be dim." She paused and looked at Lucien with a gaze that made clear the decision was not up for negotiation. "And most importantly, we cannot allow dropouts this year. Because of you, some students have already left the academy entirely. The number of miasma beasts is increasing and we need more capable people, their dropping out is not good for the empire."

"Those dropouts were a bunch of idiots." Lucien replied icily, "And I was not the one who pushed them to drop out. They chose it by themselves."

"But even if you did not make them drop out and they chose it on their own." Charlotte conceded with a slow nod, "We cannot allow you to push the students to that extent. Only the S class has managed to keep up with your teaching, and not a single student from S class has dropped out on account of you."

"So, I am sorry, and for the well-being of everyone involved, you should only be teaching S class." Charlotte stated evenly, making no attempt to sugarcoat anything.

This must have been precisely the reason she had not told the reason to Lucien's attendant Connor, because she had wanted to persuade Lucien personally, to prevent him from taking any rash action such as leaving the academy or challenging it over what he might deem an unorthodox practice.

Charlotte must have believed she could bring Lucien around. And truth be told, she was right. Lucien found himself agreeing with the decision. Perhaps it was better this way. He would have more free time, time he could use to train himself, and if possible, to research whatever danger might fall upon the world in the future.

Lucien, for the first time since entering the room, sighed and rubbed his temple. "Alright. I am fine with the decision." Lucien affirmed.

"Huh?" Charlotte leaned forward over her desk. "Did I just hear you say you are fine with it?"

Lucien gave a slight nod of his head.

"Are you planning something, or what?" Charlotte seemed entirely unable to digest his willingness to agree to the decision so readily. "Are you going to resign?"

Lucien found himself bombarded by one question after another. "Stop letting your mind form such wild guesses. I am not resigning, and I am perfectly fine with the schedule since it means I will have more free time." Lucien said flatly and rose from his chair, not wanting to be interrogated any further.

Charlotte still seemed to doubt his easy acceptance of the schedule change without any fight whatsoever. But, Lucien did not have any strength or desire to make her believe that he was fine with the decision.

Lucien started walking away. He stopped before the door and pulled it open. But before exiting, he turned and looked squarely into the vice headmistress's eyes, "Stop drinking so much alcohol." Lucien advised, and with the faintest curl of a smile he added, "I will not tolerate you biting my neck next time. I will rip those front teeth of yours right out if you ever bite me again."
