Incubus Ascension

Chapter 112 - 110

The princess trembled in the grip of the nightmare, her body locked in place as grotesque green skeletal eyes bored into her soul. Shadows clawed at her mind, replaying every failure, every moment of weakness that had cost lives—especially the one that haunted her most. But something inside her snapped. A surge of power flooded her veins, raw and unyielding, as her hero bloodline ignited in defiance.

Her mental resistance skyrocketed. With a silent roar of will, she shattered the illusion like glass beneath a hammer. The nightmare fractured around her, fragments dissolving into nothingness.

She blinked, drawing a sharp breath, and looked back at the screen that had held her captive moments ago. It was now pitch black, empty and lifeless. Her eyes narrowed into slits. "This is not the past week me," she whispered, voice laced with steel.

She clenched her fist, the black gauntlet materializing around it with a low hum of dark energy. Her gaze locked onto the spectral image of her former self—cowering behind her loyal maid, letting the woman take the fatal blow meant for her. The memory burned, fresh and painful. ’Never again.’

The last remnants of the nightmare shattered completely. The green skeletal eyes winked out, replaced by the sharp return of her full consciousness. The air around her felt lighter, charged with possibility rather than dread.

She turned to Liam, her eyes blazing with fiery determination. "I wouldn’t keep making mistakes."

Before he could respond, she grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him close. Her lips crashed against his in a deep, hungry kiss that carried all her pent-up resolve and gratitude. The world narrowed to the heat between them, the taste of defiance and something deeper.

Liam’s hands instinctively rose to her shoulders, but after a long moment he gently broke the kiss, pulling back just enough to search her face. "What’s wrong?" he asked, voice low and concerned, his thumb brushing her cheek.

She shook her head, a small, fierce smile touching her lips. "Nothing."

A sharp chime cut through the air.

**Ding!** *The princess’s hero bloodline has influenced the Devil King skill. She has awakened the complementary skill: Hero King. Level progression tripled.*

Liam let out a low whistle, eyebrows rising. "As expected of the hero bloodline."

Before he could fully process it, another notification appeared.

**Ding!** *Activating the Devil King skill has drawn the attention of the Devil Queen. She is en route.*

**Quest Issued: Survive the Devil Queen.**

**Objective:** Stay alive and protect your companions for one week.

**Failure:** Death for you and all the girls under your care.

**Reward:** Begin a relationship with the Devil Queen. All abilities raised to Level 1000.

**Time Limit:** One week.

Liam cursed under his breath, raking a hand through his hair. ’Can’t my luck give me one damn moment without attracting higher beings?’ The words echoed bitterly in his mind. He had been here before—cornered, outmatched, staring down impossible odds. Each time, death had loomed close enough to feel its breath on his neck. Yet somehow, he had flipped the script at the last second. This time, though, he had a week. A whole week to prepare, to grow stronger, to turn the tables properly.

He almost moved on, but something nagged at him. ’Wait—I didn’t read the full description.’ He opened the system menu and tapped into the new quest details. His finger hovered over the Devil Queen’s name, and suddenly her profile unfolded before him.

Liam paused. "System, was this profile function always available?"

**Affirmative,** the system replied in its neutral tone. **The host has been in constant motion and never paused to fully explore all system capabilities.**

Liam exhaled slowly. ’I’ve been running nonstop. I need to carve out real time—alone—to go through every function. No more surprises.’ He glanced at the princess, then toward the other girls waiting nearby. Should he tell them about the system? He trusted them with his life, but the fear gnawed at him: one captured, one subjected to mental probes or memory searches, and everything could crumble. The risk was too great. He shook his head. Better to carry this weight himself for now.

He returned his focus to the Devil Queen’s profile. His eyes widened. She was striking in a dangerous, overwhelming way—curves that strained against a skin-tight devilish outfit, the kind that left little to the imagination. Four horns curved elegantly atop her head like a crown, pulsing with circles of glowing red energy that spoke of ancient, terrifying power.

Then he saw her level.

**Level: 3000.**

"Fucked," Liam muttered, then louder, frustration boiling over, "I need a way to survive her!"

The archives he had studied flashed through his mind. The original five heroes—the ones who had sealed the Devil Queen long ago. Two were humans, long since dead. But the archer elf... she belonged to a long-lived race. If anyone could help him now, it was her. She might offer protection, knowledge, or even alliance. It was his best—his only—real shot.

Liam took the princess’s hand firmly. "Come on. We’re moving."

They made their way forward and soon met up with Ri. After a brief exchange of tense but relieved words, Liam pulled the princess aside into a private room. The door clicked shut behind them. In the quiet space, emotions ran high—relief, desire, and the sharp edge of impending danger. He drew her close, and they gave in to the moment, bodies and hearts connecting with urgent intensity. Time slowed as they lost themselves in each other, the weight of the quest temporarily forgotten in shared warmth and passion.

When they finally emerged, composed but closer than ever, Liam and the princess set off toward the side continent, heading for Vanessa’s house. The journey carried a new undercurrent of urgency, every shadow a potential threat.

They arrived to warm, heartfelt reunions. The girls rushed forward, embracing the princess and Liam in turn. Laughter mixed with tears of relief as they held each other, the bonds between them strengthening in the face of what lay ahead. Liam stood among them, smiling outwardly even as his mind raced.

And then, suddenly, Liam realized—
