Chapter 61
Liam’s heart slammed against his ribs as Cassandra stepped out of the shadows, her lips curving into a smile that carried the chill of a winter blade. The air in the narrow hallway thickened, heavy with the scent of damp stone and faint ozone. She tilted her head, eyes glowing with cruel amusement.
"Did you miss me?" she purred.
*’I should have seen this coming. Should have found a way out the second we stepped foot in this cursed place.’* Liam’s face hardened, jaw tight. The girls, Beatrix and the others, pressed closer behind him, their breathing shallow and frightened. He could feel their fear like a living thing, and it twisted something deep in his chest. These weren’t just companions. They were the only family he had left in this brutal world. He had dragged them here. He would get them out.
Before he could move, a shimmering barrier snapped into existence around them, glowing with sickly violet light. It sealed the hallway like a prison.
Cassandra’s smile widened. "This is a special barrier I received from my master. Even high-level threats can’t break it easily. You’re not going anywhere, Liam."
Powerlessness clawed at him. His fists clenched until his knuckles whitened. The girls looked to him, eyes wide with desperation. He couldn’t let them see him break. Not now.
He opened his system interface with a thought, fingers twitching at his side. A small, unassuming stone materialized in his palm, something he’d bought earlier as a desperate contingency. Its surface pulsed with faint, deceptive energy.
"So," he said, voice steady despite the storm inside, "sex. That’s still what you want, right?"
Cassandra’s eyes lit up with hungry delight. "Yes."
Liam forced a smirk, though his stomach turned. "I’ll do it. But on one condition."
Her gaze narrowed, curious. "What is it?"
He held up the stone. "Break this first. Prove you can. Then we’ll talk terms."
She laughed softly, reaching out with elegant, deadly fingers. The moment she gripped the stone and tried to crush it, her smirk faltered. Nothing happened. Her focus dipped, just for a heartbeat, as she poured more strength into her grip.
Liam lunged.
His fist cracked against her jaw with every ounce of skill and system-enhanced power he could muster. The impact echoed. Cassandra staggered, barrier flickering. "Now!" he shouted to the girls.
Beatrix and the others bolted toward the first floor entrance. Liam followed, heart pounding, every step a prayer that they’d make it far enough. They sprinted down the opposite side of the hallway, boots slapping against cold stone. As they ran, Liam triggered every dormant knight statue they passed, slamming his palm against activation runes. Stone groaned to life behind them, ancient blades scraping free.
The knights lumbered toward Cassandra as she recovered and gave chase. It barely slowed her. If anything, her laughter grew more eager, more feral. "You only make this more fun!"
*’Damn it. She’s toying with us.’*
The hallway ended at a heavy wooden door. Liam shoved it open. Cold night air rushed in, carrying the sharp scent of pine and damp earth. They spilled out into the dark woods, branches whipping at their faces as they ran deeper into the forest.
Cassandra lost sight of them in the thick undergrowth, but only for a moment. She crouched, tracing their footprints with a glowing fingertip. "Find them," she hissed. Skeletal warriors rose from the shadows around her, bones rattling as they loped after the trail.
---
Liam slowed just enough to catch his breath, chest burning. The girls huddled close, faces pale in the moonlight filtering through the trees. "We’ve lost too much time," he said, voice low but urgent. "We still have to finish what we came for. The mountain core."
He pulled the worn map from his pocket, fingers steady despite the adrenaline. He pointed toward the dark mountain trail snaking ahead. When he glanced up, the nearest peak loomed far closer than expected, almost unnervingly so. The realization settled like a weight in his gut. They were already on the doorstep.
They pressed on, moving carefully along the perimeter. A camp came into view at the mountain’s base: flickering fires, low voices, and the unmistakable silhouettes of succubi. Their voluptuous, naked forms moved with predatory grace between tents and crates.
Liam’s jaw tightened. "High Succubus General V is already here. We need a way inside without the whole camp coming down on us."
One succubus caught his eye, a higher-ranked guard he had noticed earlier. She had separated from the others and now sat alone by a small fire, hand moving rhythmically between her thighs as soft moans drifted on the wind. Liam watched for a moment, mind racing.
*’I can use this.’*
He turned to the girls. "Stay hidden in those bushes near the entrance. I’ll convince her. When I signal, follow me inside. Quietly."
They nodded, trust and fear mingling in their eyes. Beatrix squeezed his arm briefly, silent encouragement that anchored him. He wasn’t just fighting for survival anymore. He was fighting for them.
Liam approached the succubus. She sensed him immediately, hand freezing mid-motion. In one fluid motion she rose, spear tip pressed to his throat, eyes blazing.
"Intruder," she snarled. "Why are you here?"
"Relax," he said, hands raised but voice calm, almost teasing. "I saw a beautiful milf like you in need. How about a deal? I give you what you want... and you get me inside the dark mountain."
She laughed, the sound throaty and mocking. "Why should I risk my job, or worse, my life, for a small dick like yours?"
Liam chuckled despite the blade at his neck. "Not just that. We can exchange more than words. And I wouldn’t be against giving you a *good* fuck."
She studied him for a long moment, spear still steady. Then her expression sharpened. She pressed the tip harder against his skin. "I’m the one making orders here. Take off your pants."
He obeyed. The moment his pants dropped, her breath hitched visibly. She quickly schooled her face back into cold indifference. "Passable."
"Fine," she said. "We’ll fuck. But on my terms. And I get to have you anytime I want afterward."
Liam nodded. "As long as we get inside the tunnel."
She leaned back against a tree, spreading her legs in a missionary position, eyes challenging. Liam stepped forward, sliding into her with a smooth thrust. She moaned loudly, nails raking down his back hard enough to draw blood. The pain flared, but he endured, hips moving with practiced rhythm. The level gap was punishing, he had to activate multiple skills just to keep hitting the right spots, drawing out her pleasure while his own muscles burned.
Finally, he pushed deep and finished inside her. She collapsed against the tree, panting, a satisfied haze in her eyes. "That... was a really good fuck."
"Glad you approve," Liam said, catching his breath. "Now keep your promise."
She nodded lazily. "Come at first morning light, when everyone’s asleep. I’ll smuggle you inside using cargo crates. Best I can do."
---
Dawn came too slowly. When it did, Liam and the girls rushed to the guard. True to her word, she hid them among supply crates and guided the wagon through the guarded entrance. The moment they stepped into the dark mountain proper, a crawling sensation rippled across Liam’s skin. Beatrix shivered beside him.
"Dark energy," he muttered, glancing at the pulsing black veins running through the walls. "That’s why they call it the dark mountain."
He looked at the girls, voice firm but gentle. "Our goal is the core. Stay close. We finish this together."
They nodded, determination winning over fear. They chose the deepest tunnel, moving quickly through winding passages that grew colder and heavier with every step. At the end waited a massive wheel-shaped door etched with glowing runes: *Blood of the Chosen One.*
Liam bit his thumb without hesitation, pressing the bleeding digit to the center. Blood flowed into the grooves, and with a deep groan, the gate swung open.
They stepped into a vast chamber. The air hummed with power.
A sultry laugh echoed from above. "Hehehe... Thank you for opening the door for me."
High Succubus General V dropped from the shadows, landing with graceful menace. Her eyes raked over Liam, dark with jealousy and lust. "I waited so long for you to come open it. And by the way... seeing you fuck my soldiers and not me? That made me *very* pissed. Such a long dick should be mine."
Liam’s face hardened. She had known about them from the start.
*’This is it. No more running.’*
He activated the scrolls he’d prepared, pouring mana into them. V’s eyes widened. She barely had time to throw up a barrier as the chamber erupted in violent explosions. Stone shattered. The floor gave way beneath them.
Liam’s heart hammered wildly as they plummeted into darkness. Wind roared past his ears. Below them waited only shadows and the promise of a crushing end.
*’Not like this. Not after everything, ’*
