Why Is This Omega Stalking Me…?

Chapter 53: It Doesn’t Add Up

Chapter 53

.

.

Shen Mei leaned against the cold wall of the college building, her thoughts scattered and restless as she tried, for what felt like the tenth time, to call Shen Yu. Each attempt ended the same way—the call ringing endlessly before being redirected to voicemail. Her grip on her phone tightened slightly as her heart pounded with growing anxiety.

The situation had already spiraled beyond what she could control.

Their entire family knew.

They knew that Shen Yu had presented as an Alpha.

And once something like that spread within their family, it would only be a matter of time before pressure, interference, and consequences followed.

She needed to warn him.

But he wasn’t answering.

Letting out a shaky breath, Shen Mei pushed herself off the wall. If he wouldn’t pick up, then she would just have to find him herself. There was no time to hesitate anymore. With that thought in mind, she began heading toward the university gates.

However, just as she reached them, she collided with someone.

The impact made her stumble slightly before she instinctively looked up, only to find herself face-to-face with Luo Xin. The Alpha was holding her phone up to her ear, clearly in the middle of a call as well, her expression already tense before she even realized who she had bumped into.

Luo Xin glanced down at her, her gaze briefly pausing before she moved as if to walk past without another word.

But Shen Mei reacted quickly.

She reached out and grabbed Luo Xin’s wrist.

That single action made Luo Xin stop immediately.

Her brows furrowed as she turned back, irritation flashing across her face.

"What the hell is your problem?" Luo Xin snapped, her voice sharp with anger. She had clearly already been in a bad mood, and Shen Mei’s interruption only added to it.

But Shen Mei didn’t let go.

Even though her hand trembled slightly, she held on.

She would rather endure someone’s anger than allow her brother to face something worse alone.

It had already been five days.

Five days without any sign of Shen Yu.

Even when she went to his penthouse, it was empty—cold and untouched, as if he had simply vanished from the world.

"You’re Jiang Li’s friend... right?" Shen Mei asked, her voice unsteady despite her effort to stay composed.

Luo Xin frowned slightly, clearly confused by the question.

"Why does that—"

"Luo Xin, please!"

The desperation in Shen Mei’s voice cut her off.

For a brief moment, Luo Xin froze, her irritation faltering as she glanced away with a quiet sigh.

"...Yes, I am," she admitted reluctantly. "What do you want?"

Shen Mei looked up at her, her eyes filled with urgency.

"Can you ask him where Shen Yu is?" she said quickly. "I think he’s the only one who might know... please."

Luo Xin’s eyes narrowed slightly at that.

"How do you even know Shen Yu?" she asked, suspicion creeping into her tone. Then, as realization dawned, her expression shifted. "Wait... he’s your brother?"

Shen Mei nodded.

Luo Xin fell silent for a moment, her grip tightening slightly around her phone as she recalled Jiang Li’s condition the last time she saw him. He had looked pale, almost lifeless, barely able to eat unless someone reminded him—and even then, it was only for the sake of the child he was carrying.

With that thought, Luo Xin exhaled quietly and shook her head.

"I don’t think he knows where Shen Yu is," she said finally.

Shen Mei’s eyes widened.

If even Jiang Li didn’t know...

Then where was Shen Yu?

...

"How long are you planning to stay here, ge?!"

Lin Yushen’s voice rang out from the kitchen, filled with irritation as it cut through the noise of children’s songs playing loudly from a tablet. The bright, repetitive tunes of a baby show echoed throughout the apartment, and every time Lin Yushen tried to lower the volume, Lin Yuze would immediately protest with loud cries.

Currently, the small child sat on the counter, completely absorbed in the colorful animations on the screen, his tiny body swaying along to the music.

Meanwhile, Shen Yu lay face-down on the couch, looking like someone who hadn’t rested properly in days.

Slowly, he lifted his head.

His usually composed appearance was gone—his hair was messy to the point of looking like a bird’s nest, and dark circles shadowed his eyes, making him look exhausted and worn.

"There’s no need to shout," he muttered hoarsely as he pushed himself up and moved to sit on one of the counter chairs.

Lin Yushen raised a brow, glancing meaningfully at the blaring tablet.

"Yeah," he replied dryly. "There’s absolutely no need."

Under normal circumstances, Shen Yu might have laughed.

But this time, he didn’t.

Instead, his gaze drifted toward the screen, watching the childish animation without really seeing it. Lin Yushen noticed immediately and let out a quiet sigh, leaning back against the counter.

"You know you can’t leave a pregnant omega alone," he said more seriously. "Not if you expect a safe pregnancy. Male pregnancies are risky enough as they are—without an Alpha’s care, the chances of miscarriage increase."

Shen Yu let out a low, humorless chuckle, resting his head against the counter again.

"You don’t understand," he said quietly. "I don’t want to see his face... I don’t even want to be near him."

There was bitterness in his voice.

"I was such a fool... thinking I was ready to let him into my life."

Lin Yushen frowned slightly at that.

It had been a long time since he had seen Shen Yu like this—this raw, this shaken. Normally, the man was composed to the point of being untouchable.

At this point, Lin Yushen thought wryly, he really should be getting paid for this.

But that was a conversation for another day.

"Do you remember how hard it was for me to give birth to him?" Lin Yushen asked, nodding toward Lin Yuze, who was now clapping enthusiastically while attempting to sing along to the cartoon.

Shen Yu gave a quiet hum in response.

"It was painful," Lin Yushen continued. "Even though Fen Xie was around... he wasn’t really there. He only came when the doctor said I needed his pheromones, and then he left again."

At that, Shen Yu slowly raised his head.

"I’m not saying Jiang Li is right," Lin Yushen added quickly, glancing at him. "What he did was wrong. But don’t make the child pay for something it doesn’t even understand."

Shen Yu didn’t respond immediately.

Instead, his gaze shifted toward Lin Yuze, who was now sitting on his lap, completely absorbed in the tablet. The child opened his mouth obediently every now and then as Lin Yushen fed him porridge, humming happily even when his cheeks were full. His tiny hair was gathered into small, uneven ponytails, making him look even more endearing.

Lin Yuze suddenly turned around, his large eyes blinking up at Shen Yu.

Without warning, he grabbed Shen Yu’s sleeve with his tiny hand and held on tightly, as if afraid he might disappear.

Shen Yu looked down at him, slightly puzzled.

The child merely smiled before returning his attention to the cartoon, completely content to remain where he was.

Lin Yushen noticed and laughed softly.

"He likes you," he said. "Most of the time he only sits still for a few minutes before running around."

Shen Yu glanced at the small hand still clutching his sleeve.

For some reason, he didn’t pull away.

And just like that—

A memory surfaced.

Jiang Li, quietly turning away when he thought no one was watching, gently touching his lower abdomen while whispering softly to the baby. Sometimes coaxing. Sometimes scolding.

The image lingered.

Shen Yu exhaled slowly.

But no matter what, it didn’t make things easier.

It wasn’t something he could simply ignore—what Jiang Li had done had shattered his trust completely, leaving behind something jagged and irreparable, like broken glass.

"Shen Yu," Lin Yushen said suddenly, his tone shifting as a thought occurred to him. "Is Jiang Li that rich? Those pills... they’re not cheap."

Shen Yu frowned slightly, still holding Lin Yuze as the child squirmed in his lap.

"...It seems like it," he replied.

But even as he said it, something felt off.

It didn’t add up.

Jiang Li lived in a small apartment.

There was no way he could easily afford something like that.

And more importantly—

Those pills weren’t something you could just buy anywhere.

They weren’t sold in normal stores.

Which meant—

Someone had given them to him.

Shen Yu’s expression darkened as a memory surfaced, sharp and clear this time.

Five days ago, he had been too overwhelmed, too hurt, to process everything properly.

But now—

He remembered.

"How can he manifest days after I gave you the pills?"

Shen Yu’s grip tightened slightly.

"...Taehyun," he muttered.

Lin Yushen turned toward him, confusion evident on his face as he wiped his hands with a cloth.

"Taehyun?" he repeated.

Shen Yu nodded slowly, his gaze turning cold.

"Taehyun is the one who gave Jiang Li those pills," he said, his voice dropping.

"...That bastard."
