Chapter 135 - Calm, Cool, Collected
“So, you’re planning on moving to Florida?” I asked.
“That’s right, boss,” Adam nodded, “If I’m going to be in your guild, I need to move down there anyways.”
“You do know that the guild isn’t happening for a while, right?” I asked, “I just reserved you for when it does get made.”
“I know, but, I should be down there when it gets made and running.” He said, “Loyalty, boss!” He saluted.
“Pfft!” I chuckled, “And what’s the real reason?” I asked.
“Haha, well,” He scratched the back of his head, “Honestly, there’s not much for me here in Nebraska; It’s unbelievably boring and my opportunities are limited. I want to move to Florida, for one: to meet and thank you personally. And two: So that I don’t have to move when the guild starts.
My lease is ending soon anyways, I want to move out of this crumby and small apartment. I figure I might as well move to Florida while I do so.”
“You don’t really have to thank me personally,” I said, “You’re doing a service and I’m simply paying for your product.”
“No,” He shook his head, “Even if that is the case. There’s thousands of others providing the same service and you still chose me. This contract has literally changed my life; I need to thank you personally.” He said without a hint of deceit in his voice.
“Oh geez,” I scratched the back of my head, “Honest to a fault, aren’t you? I’m going to blush.”
“You’re already blushing.” I heard from the side.
“Quiet, Mouse!” I shot her a glare.
Adam smiled.
“Ahem,” I turned my attention back to the screen, “Make sure you find a place in Broward. Any other county sucks!”
“My Mom lives in Palm Beach,” Luna said.
“…Any other county except for Broward and Palm Beach sucks!”
“And my dad lives is Dade.”
“What? Why do they live in two different counties?” I asked.
“Because I’m lying and they both live in Broward.”
“You!” I lightly smacked her arm, “So! In conclusion, every other county sucks!”
“Got it, boss! Broward only!” Adam saluted.
…
The call with Adam took look enough to where after it ended, it was time to meet with Luna’s party.
Now, neither of us were actually upset or mad that our relationship got leaked. But! It does give us an opportune moment to mess with them!
Of course, if that were the only thing, there’s only a 40% chance I’d have set a meeting in the first place. There’s actually a hidden motive behind this meeting! Hehehe! Always hide your cookie behind the cake! Learnt that from chairman gramps—is what I would say if he taught me that, but he didn’t. This is purely my own genius!
I put on my leg pouch, headed to the closet and pocketed a few potions. Hehe, these’ll be useful.
…
“What’s this place?” I asked as we pulled into a parking spot.
We were parked in front of a large building, The windows and greenery around it made it look lively. On the upper half of the wall was a large sign attached to a wooden board that read: ‘Calm, Cool, Collected’.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
“This is a building designed for meetings between awakeners.” Luna said, “Since awakeners often need places for private discussion and not everyone can provide that, someone made a company designed specifically for creating buildings like this. The security is top-notch and the rooms are made with privacy in mind.
Usually, you go here when you want to have a more serious and private discussion. I think this place is the best for whatever you were planning.”
“Oh, that’s neat.” I nodded, inspecting the building more closely this time.
The large windows at the front showed that the entrance led to a clean looking reception area with white floors and beige walls. There were uncomfy looking couches bordering the room with unique-looking tables in front of them. Two people sat behind the receptionist desk, one man, one woman; They were either on their phones or doing something on the computer, I couldn’t tell from where I was. There was more greenery and plants on the inside, but, they looked like decoration plants rather than ones someone would actually grow.
“And people can’t listen into the meeting?” I asked.
“No,” Luna shook her head, “The meeting rooms are isolated with top grade skills, spells, or whatever; It’s way more advanced than the little isolation barrier I can make.”
“Hm…What if the chairman of the company installed secret audio captures in the rooms!? The chairman knows everyone’s secrets! I smell a conspiracy!!”
“Pfft, as did many others.” Luna chuckled, “They’ve been tested many a time; The government, rankers, and even the association all tested and searched for any listening devices but found none.”
“That’s just because I wasn’t on the case!” I said confidently.
“Right, right, detective Bin is on the case, you’ll expose them for sure.” Luna chuckled.
“Hehe,” I giggled, opening the car door, “Well, let’s go!”
When we entered the building, the male receptionist immediately glanced towards us. He stood up and waited for us to approach the desk. Seeing as how he didn’t comment on my mask, I assumed it was a common occurrence.
To my surprise, there were two security guards in the room as well. I couldn’t believe that I didn’t see them from the outside, they were sitting just a little away from the entrance.
After glancing at them for a few seconds, we made our way to the reception desk.
“Good afternoon, do you have a reservation?” He asked.
“Under ‘Snake’,” Luna said, “Should be room 2B, password is ‘Rats’.”
“Confirmed.” He nodded, handing Luna a small badge.
After that, he didn’t say anything else, simply sitting down and returning to whatever he was doing.
“Let’s go,” Luna said after turning to me.
When we started to walk, I curiously asked,
“What was that?”
“When making a reservation, you have the ability to choose the name and password for your meeting room. Only by giving that to the receptionist, can you actually enter the room; This badge unlocks the door.”
“Oh, cool, so you could’ve chosen anything for the name and password?”
“Yep.”
“What if someone listens into when you gave the name and password? Couldn’t someone just repeat what you said and sneak into the meeting?” I asked.
“That could happen,” Luna nodded, “That’s why they also have the option to give everyone a different password that can only be used once. For example, if I had the password ‘Rats’, I could give you the password ‘Cats’ or something and if ‘Rats’ is used and then you try to give them the same password, the security will handle you.”
“…Handle me?” I repeated, “Why’d you word it so scarily?!”
“Sorry, they’ll ‘deal with’ you.”
“That doesn’t make it any better!”
“Pfft.” Luna chuckled.
Eventually, we made our way to a door. Next to it was a label that read: ‘2B’.
Luna pressed the badge she was given against that label and I heard a clicking sound. The door had unlocked.
Inside, was a large and open room. Right in the middle was a round table with over twenty seats. On the right side of the room were round looking couches with a rectangular rug that encompassed nearly all of the right side. There was bookshelves filled with books and even a water dispenser. Honestly, the right side looked more like a break room rather than a meeting room.
The left side of the room looked like a small meeting area, there were smaller rooms there with large glass windows. It seemed like that was for if you wanted to meet with only a few people at a time.
“Everyone else will arrive in about thirty minutes. I wanted to show you around first since you’ve never been here before.”
“Mm,” I nodded and headed towards the large round table, “So, this room is completely isolated with no listening devices, right? No one can hear me from the outside?” I asked.
“That’s right.” Luna nodded, following me.
“Hehe…” I giggled and smiled before taking a deep breath,
“I HAVE A BOMB! I’M GOING TO BLOW THIS BUILDING TO DUST! EVERYTHING IS GOING TO GO BOOM! I REPEAT, I HAVE A BOMB!” I yelled at the top of my lungs.
Luna froze and just stared at me with her jaw dropped.
I took another deep breath and continued to yell,
“THE BOMB WILL EXPLODE IN TWO MINUTES! WHEN I PRESS THIS DETONATOR, THIS BUILDING WILL GO KABOOM!”
I caught my breath, panting a little. That took a lot out of me. After all that yelling, my throat fell dry so I calmly headed over to the water dispenser and got myself a cup of water.
Good! They used the good brand of water! Delicious~
With my thirst quenched, I headed to one of the couches and tapped it a few times before flopping onto it.
Quite comfy! The designs a little tacky so I wouldn’t buy one for my house, but, at least the comforts there.
“So, we have about thirty minutes of free time? What’re the chances they come early?” I asked Luna who was still frozen in the middle of the room.
My words seemed to cause Luna to snap back to reality as she blinked and shook her head, she walked over to me before finally speaking,
“No, no, no, we’re not just skipping past that! What was that!?” She asked.
“What was what?” I tilted my head.
“‘What was what’ you ask!? The part where you yelled that you have a bomb! That’s what!”
“Oh, that little thing?” I shrugged, “I was just testing if they had listening devices in here. Surely if they did, someone would’ve broken the door down by now. Did you see those security guards? They looked scary.”
“Hah…Hah…” Luna laughed out of disbelief and smiled as if she didn’t know what else to say. Eventually, it seems like she just gave up as she answered my earlier question, “They might. I don’t see why they wouldn’t. That’s why I had us here so early so that no one else would be here.”
“I see, I see~” I said, “Then! Come here!” I patted the couch next to me.
Luna took a seat next to me without question and I adjusted my sitting position.
“What’re you doing?” She asked.
“Hehe,” I giggled as a response before laying down, resting my head on her lap. Despite being so strong, Luna’s body is really soft. “So comfy~”
From below, I could see a slight blush on Luna’s face, but, she didn’t stop me. Instead, she moved her hand to my head and gently brushed my bangs.
“By the way,” She said, “I noticed you’ve been making a lot of bouncy potions.”
“Ah, right, I’m planning to start selling them.”
“Oh! Finally? Is it because Christmas is coming up?”
“Yeah, a perfect time to sell them, aint it?” I chuckled, “Give me all the Christmas money~”
“Haha,” Luna chuckled.
And so, we simply just chatted until finally, the door unlocked. The first person had arrived.
I immediately sat up and activated full mask mode; I didn’t trust myself to not slip up and show a smile.
Crossing my legs, I calmly waited as they entered the room.
It was an older woman with short black hair that reached their shoulders. If I’m correct, this should be Jean, the party leader.
She stepped inside and looked around before spotting Luna and I. When she did, her eyes widened slightly as she made her way over to us.
Hehe, this is going to be fun!
