Chapter 24, The Watcher’s Eye
Freya asked, “What now?”
“Let me think…”
As Euphemia spoke, she lowered her head and searched through her crossbody bag again.
This time, she pulled out a small pouch.
Freya looked at it curiously.
“Is that another supernatural item?”
Euphemia shook her head.
“No. These are spirituality crystals too.”
“I brought them myself. Their quality is far better than the ones we just saw.”
Then Euphemia looked around the warehouse.
After choosing a spot with a good field of view, she pulled Freya over quickly.
She pinched a small piece of spirituality crystal between her index and middle fingers, then pressed it against the wall.
The crystal melted like wax.
It turned into a pool of colorless liquid.
Euphemia dipped two fingers into it and began drawing.
After about three or four minutes, a slightly eerie pattern formed beneath Euphemia’s fingertips.
A triangle sat inside a circle.
At the center of the triangle was an oval shape resembling an eye.
Strange symbols and things that looked vaguely like letters were woven between the three shapes.
The moment Euphemia finished drawing, Freya clearly saw the oval at the center move.
The eye seemed to turn.
Then the entire pattern slowly became invisible and disappeared in front of her.
Of course, if Freya used Mind Sense, she could still clearly sense a distinct spirituality fluctuation on the wall.
Euphemia said, “Watcher’s Eye, complete.”
“I linked its field of view to my monocle.”
“If that Rank Five practitioner comes to this warehouse, I’ll see him immediately.”
Freya could not help asking, “So what exactly is that?”
“An occult array.”
Euphemia explained, “With spirituality as the foundation and a few materials as support, an array can produce all kinds of powerful effects.”
“Surveillance, attack, defense, teleportation, summoning. There are arrays for almost everything.”
“I just don’t know that many yet.”
A Rank One Scholar could quickly master skills that already existed in the real world.
Euphemia’s microexpression observation was one example.
At Rank Two, the Scholar Path could begin learning occult knowledge and draw all kinds of arrays.
Euphemia continued, “After this, I’ll rent a place nearby and stay here.”
“If anyone suspicious appears, I can leave immediately and follow them.”
“Maybe I’ll be able to uncover the mastermind’s other bases or even his true identity.”
After that, the two left the warehouse through the same route they had used to enter.
They returned directly to the alley where they had first put on the invisibility cloak.
Once they removed the cloak, their clothes looked slightly disheveled, probably because they had spent the entire time pressed close together.
Freya straightened her clothing while walking out of the alley.
Euphemia was a step behind because she had to put away the invisibility cloak.
Then, looking at Freya ahead of her, she suddenly thought of something.
Her face flushed.
If someone had been watching them the whole time, they would have seen two girls walking down the street before suddenly turning into a secluded, empty alley.
Then, after disappearing for twenty minutes, they came back out with messy clothes.
That was very hard not to misunderstand.
While Euphemia’s imagination spiraled, Freya noticed that she had not followed.
Freya turned back.
“What’s wrong?”
Euphemia hurriedly coughed.
“Nothing.”
Then she walked out.
Next came renting a place.
As long as enough money was offered, that was not difficult at all.
Euphemia soon found a suitable place nearby.
At first, she only wanted to rent it for one month.
The landlord refused because the term was too short.
So Euphemia rented it for half a year instead.
After all, both Euphemia’s clothing and her collection of strange little tools proved she was no ordinary person.
At the very least, she was not short on money.
Freya walked around the new place.
It was not exactly luxurious, but it was at least clean.
It also happened to have two bedrooms.
Freya pointed to the smaller one.
“Then I’ll sleep here after this?”
Euphemia paused.
“Huh? You’re staying too?”
Freya immediately put on a pitiful expression.
She blinked her pretty green eyes and deliberately acted cute.
“I… I can’t?”
The main objective of this simulation had been to try to recruit the Earth Church’s help.
That objective had already been completed.
She had even become the Earth Church’s Saintess.
Now all she needed to do was mention the disaster that might happen later, and the Earth Church would definitely help.
With the Special Affairs Division, she still needed to explain where her information came from.
With the church, she did not need to explain anything at all.
Since her main objective was complete, and since she had happened to meet Euphemia, the great detective, Freya decided to push for a little extra.
It would be perfect if this simulation also uncovered Obsidian’s mastermind’s true identity.
“Though I can’t stay here all day,” Freya said.
“I’ll probably need to visit the Earth Church from time to time.”
Euphemia looked Freya up and down carefully.
“Are you sure?”
“If you pass through this area once or twice, people might call it coincidence.”
“But if you come here often with white hair, closed eyes, no shoes, and a face that pretty, you’re going to draw attention.”
Freya paused.
“Then I’ll just get something big and black to wrap myself in.”
Euphemia said, “A strange black-robed figure wandering around in broad daylight would also be suspicious.”
After a pause, Euphemia sighed.
“How about this?”
“I’ll lend you my invisibility cloak. Wear it when you go out.”
“Huh?”
While Freya was still confused, Euphemia had already taken out the thin cloak and handed it to her.
Freya accepted it blankly.
“You’re lending it to me just like that?”
“Yeah.”
Euphemia looked at her calmly.
“Is there a problem?”
“No. Nothing.”
Freya draped the cloak over herself.
“Thank you. I’ll bring it back as soon as I’m done.”
Then Freya left quickly.
After casting a physical enhancement buff on herself, she began walking back toward the Earth Church.
On the way, she could not help thinking.
Euphemia trusted her far too much.
How could she lend out something this powerful so easily?
Was she not worried Freya would simply run off with it?
At the same time, inside the rented apartment, Euphemia was silently thinking to herself.
Freya had far too little caution.
How could she just move into the home of someone she had met that very day?
Back with Freya, some time passed before she reached the area near the Earth Church.
She removed the invisibility cloak and walked straight toward the church.
This time, however, the entrance was different.
Many believers in green robes were standing near the doors.
Freya approached with curiosity.
The moment the believers saw her, their faces filled with wonder and worship.
“The Archbishop was right.”
“Such a pure presence, and so many sincere blessings…”
“It seems I still haven’t worked hard enough.”
“I need to help even more people.”
“Saintess!”
“Mother!”
At first, everything had sounded normal.
Then Freya suddenly heard someone call her Mother.
She immediately turned toward the voice.
The speaker was a man nearly six foot three.
He looked at her with complete devotion.
Freya’s mind went blank.
What?
That was not right, was it?
Wasn’t that supposed to be a very modern and very specific kind of thing from her previous world?
Why did this world have it too?
