DMS Chapter 198
DMS Chapter 198
Flinx had finished testing all of his eighth- and ninth-level area-of-effect spells, so he moved on to his seventh-level spells.
The first one he tried was the seventh-level Transmutation spell, Draconic Transformation.
Draconic features appeared across Flinx's body, and a pair of incorporeal wings sprouted from his back. He immediately took flight toward a group of kobolds gathered around a campfire and unleashed a devastating dragon's breath upon them.
The kobolds were killed instantly. Once he confirmed that none had survived, Flinx flew back to where his friends were and waited for the spell's duration to expire.
"That spell is epic!" Samuel exclaimed, and everyone readily agreed.
Flinx merely shrugged.
It was only one of the many powerful spells at his disposal. That was precisely why he favored the Wizard class. Its vast spell selection made it one of the most versatile classes imaginable.
The next enemies consisted of only three giant trolls.
Flinx cast the seventh-level Evocation spell, Mordenkainen's Sword.
The sword-shaped plane of force hovering through the air quickly carved the trolls apart. At first, Flinx had been concerned that their formidable regenerative abilities would allow them to survive, but apparently, even creatures capable of tremendous regeneration could not recover after being sliced into countless pieces.
Once the trolls were dead and the wind elemental had collected their mana stones, Flinx returned to his companions.
"We're fine," Paul said while comfortably sitting in a camping chair and munching on potato chips. "No monsters can get anywhere near us, especially with all these powerful elementals guarding us."
"By the way, we've all reached level two," Mark added.
Flinx noticed that everyone treated their level-ups as insignificant since they would lose all of their progress once they returned to Earth.
"It's a shame we couldn't protect our systems from Earth's consciousness," Mark sighed. "It would've been much better if the dungeon's reward could shield our systems permanently instead of only for an hour."
Flinx waited for Pip's report until his familiar informed him that the next group of enemies consisted of ten dire wolves and two dire bears.
He briefly wondered why creatures native to forests would appear inside a cavern-themed dungeon before shrugging.
There was little point in applying logic to the monsters produced by a dungeon.
Once Flinx moved within casting range, he cast the seventh-level Evocation spell, Prismatic Spray.
He had prepared himself to cast the spell multiple times if necessary, but the brilliant spray of multicolored rays proved more than powerful enough. The dungeon monsters were quickly obliterated.
Each colored ray possessed a different effect, making the spell remarkably versatile and somewhat overpowered. Flinx suspected it was stronger than many spells of the same level, perhaps even some of a higher level.
The next spell he wanted to test was the seventh-level Transmutation spell, Reverse Gravity.
Its targets were a large group of goblins consisting of warriors, archers, shamans, and several riders mounted on dire wolves.
Fortunately, the spell's area was large enough to encompass every one of them.
The instant the spell took effect, the goblins were hurled helplessly into the air.
Their startled expressions caused both Flinx and his friends to burst into laughter.
When gravity returned to normal, the monsters plummeted back to the ground.
As Flinx had expected, a handful survived the impact.
Unfortunately for them, nearly every bone in their bodies had shattered, and many had suffered ruptured internal organs. Their suffering would have been unimaginable.
A wind elemental swiftly ended their misery, leaving no survivors.
Pip soon reported another group ahead consisting of giant spiders accompanied by several slimes.
Flinx cast the seventh-level Evocation spell, Whirlwind.
The violent cyclone battered every monster within its reach until they were all destroyed.
With that battle, Flinx had now tested every seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-level area-of-effect spell in his spell list.
He briefly considered moving on to his sixth-level spells.
However, after reviewing their descriptions, he realized there was a good chance some monsters would survive a single casting.
Of course, he could simply cast those spells repeatedly. He certainly had enough spell slots.
Still, he wanted to finish the dungeon as quickly as possible.
Although many sixth-level spells were powerful, he ultimately decided it was more efficient to continue using spells of seventh level and above.
Over the following battles, Flinx returned to cycling through his ninth-, eighth-, and seventh-level area-of-effect spells, repeating the rotation whenever he reached the end of the list.
Before long, his friends grew bored of watching him effortlessly annihilate every monster they encountered.
Instead, they chatted among themselves or browsed the internet while Flinx continued clearing the dungeon.
Eventually, they reached the end of the second floor.
Waiting there was the elite monster—a massive two-headed ogre.
Flinx cast the ninth-level Conjuration spell, Blade of Disaster.
The devastating spell tore through the ogre with ease, killing it almost instantly.
The surrounding monsters were then finished off with several casts of Fireball.
Flinx figured that a single area-of-effect spell could have eliminated everything at once, but he had wanted to test another one of his powerful single-target spells.
After storing the magic item dropped by the ogre and collecting all of the mana stones, the group officially completed the second floor.
Flinx and his friends left the dungeon, deciding to continue their expedition the following day after getting some proper rest.
Once outside, Paul and Mark helped Flinx design a version of Galder's Tower capable of accommodating everyone by using a higher-level spell slot.
The structure was simple.
The first floor contained a living room, dining room, and kitchen where everyone could relax together.
The second floor consisted entirely of bedrooms.
Since Flinx had expended a tenth-level spell slot, the magical tower was more than spacious enough for the entire group.
Not wanting to act as everyone's personal waiter, Flinx distributed mana stones to each of his friends so they would have enough funds to purchase whatever they wanted from the System Shopping Site until they returned to Earth.
Soon, the dining table overflowed with food ordered from countless restaurants.
A lavish feast quickly took shape.
Once someone purchased alcohol and another produced a music player, the gathering naturally turned into a party.
The celebration lasted for several hours, and eventually everyone—including Flinx—became drunk.
Flinx wasn't concerned.
A single Cleric healing spell would instantly remove the intoxication whenever necessary.
Besides, they were perfectly safe.
Several powerful elementals guarded the area, while Hallucinatory Terrain concealed their campsite from anyone passing nearby.
As the alcohol continued to flow, emotions surfaced.
Some of his friends broke down in tears, complaining about how much they missed their girlfriends or wives.
Others loudly declared that they couldn't wait to convince their families to move permanently to this world.
Since Flinx remained the least intoxicated among them, he quietly took out his tablet and began recording their drunken antics.
He fully intended to tease them with the footage once they sobered up the next day.
Eventually, everyone became too exhausted and intoxicated to continue the celebration.
One by one, they stumbled upstairs and collapsed onto whatever bed they found first.
None of them had the energy to clean themselves before sleeping.
Flinx suspected that within a few hours, the smell alone would force them awake and send them stumbling toward the bathrooms.
