DMS Chapter 177
DMS Chapter 177
Flinx was satisfied with the campsite he had created. The campfire burned steadily, and the warmth and light it provided made the place feel comfortable and secure.
He brought out his camping chair and table, then placed his sleeping bag near the campfire. Flinx did not set up a tent because he did not think it would rain. If it did, he could simply cast Galder’s Log Cabin and rest inside it.
Once he finished preparing everything, he made sure to memorize the details of the campsite. He even took pictures using his Android tablet. After that, he teleported to the area beside the tree located between Pondy and the outdoor resting place they had built in front of his tower in Ilioven.
Flinx only stayed there for a few seconds since he had only teleported home to confirm that he could. He immediately returned to his campsite afterward.
Once he settled into his chair, Pip informed him that there were no creatures nearby that could threaten his safety. There were a few wild animals, such as bears and wolves, but Pip had already driven them away using its spells.
With his solar camping light illuminating the area, Flinx purchased a generous amount of food from his System Shopping Site and enjoyed his dinner that night.
After finishing his meal, he decided to begin reading the second book of the Spellsong Cycle series by L.E. Modesitt Jr., titled The Spellsong War. He had greatly enjoyed the first novel in the series, so his expectations for the second book were somewhat high.
After reading for a couple of hours, Flinx decided that he enjoyed the second book as well.
He appreciated the peaceful feeling of sitting beside a campfire while reading a good book, surrounded by beautiful trees. The best part was that no insects approached him, as his magical aura was enough to keep them away.
After some time, he started feeling tired and prepared to sleep. He first cleaned himself using his Prestidigitation spell, then checked the chat site to see if there was any new information from his friends that he needed to know.
He did not expect anything important. If there had been urgent information, the chat site would have sent him an audio notification, which he would have heard. They had tested that function before his friends left for Earth.
The next day, Flinx cleaned up the campsite. He made sure the campfire was completely extinguished before storing all his belongings in his fourth tab space. Afterward, he continued his journey.
Since he had no specific destination, he continued walking at a leisurely pace. Flinx enjoyed the refreshing breeze and the scent of the trees around him. He especially liked that the weather was becoming colder. The chill in the air made him shiver in delight.
He wondered why he enjoyed his solitary adventure so much.
By midmorning, he spotted a village in the distance. He decided to pass through it to see how the locals would react to a stranger. The villagers responded to his presence casually, which surprised him slightly.
Even the children only followed him for a short distance before running off somewhere else when they realized he had no intention of stopping.
At first, Flinx considered acting as a healer and offering his services to the villagers in exchange for a few coins. However, the villagers appeared healthy enough. He did not see anyone with obvious illnesses or injuries, so he simply continued onward.
For the next two days, Flinx continued traveling eastward. He camped during the night when darkness prevented him from traveling further.
However, he eventually started using his Log Cabin instead of setting up a campsite. The novelty of camping had worn off, and the comfort of having an enclosed shelter was far better than sleeping on the ground.
Autumn had arrived, and the leaves on the trees had begun changing colors. The forest looked like a woman in the process of changing her clothes into a more colorful outfit decorated with jewels of red and gold. The sight fascinated Flinx.
He also encountered an abundance of forest animals. Since he had not hunted any of them and did not carry the scent of blood, they were not afraid of him.
There were even times when he rested during midday after eating lunch and reading his book when wildlife approached him. Deer, squirrels, and birds would sometimes come near.
Because Flinx left them alone and merely observed them, they treated him like another harmless creature rather than a predator.
Flinx believed that his cleanliness, maintained through his Prestidigitation spell, might have contributed to the fact that he did not smell like an ordinary human. However, that was only his theory.
Whenever he witnessed predators hunting their prey, Flinx followed the behavior of a naturalist from Earth and simply observed. He did not interfere, even when he felt tempted to save some of the adorable animals, such as baby deer.
Finally, on the fifth day of his journey, he saw a sign on the road stating that he had now left Ilioven’s area of responsibility.
This meant he would likely begin encountering more dangerous things.
Of course, dangerous for ordinary people, not for him.
He knew that beyond the sign, he might encounter bandits and monsters. However, he did not care.
The surrounding scenery remained beautiful, and Flinx still wanted to appreciate every part of it. If he encountered anything dangerous, he would simply deal with it.
When noon arrived, a sudden heavy rain began pouring down. Based on his experience from the previous few days, the rain likely would not last long. However, Flinx did not want to be soaked by the freezing rain, so he cast Galder’s Log Cabin beside the road and enjoyed the warmth and comfort of his magical shelter.
Inside, he took a long hot shower and purchased a hearty meal from his System Shopping Site.
Before eating, Flinx cast his eighth-level wizard evocation spell, Telepathy. The spell successfully connected him to Olivia.
“Hello, Olivia? This is Flinx. I’m using a spell to communicate with you. Is everyone doing well?”
“Flinx?! I didn’t know you had this kind of magic. Where are you right now? We’re all doing fine. I managed to send a letter to the four kids, and they replied. They told me they’re doing well and, honestly, more than well. They said they’re enjoying learning how to become wizards and hope that someday, they can become as powerful as you.”
“I’m glad to hear that. I’m actually still near Ilioven since I’ve been traveling on foot instead of using a mount or my car. I’ll contact you this way from time to time. If you need me to return for any reason, just tell me, and I’ll be there immediately.”
“Then go ahead and return in five days to restock the shop’s inventory.”
After telling Olivia that he would, Flinx ended the telepathic communication and began eating his lunch.
Even after he finished eating, the rain continued, so he decided to keep reading the second book in the Spellsong Cycle series until the weather cleared.
Flinx finished the novel when the rain finally stopped. He had already purchased the third book in the series, titled Darksong Rising, but had not started it yet because he planned to continue traveling.
After dismissing his Log Cabin, he resumed his journey.
One downside of the rain was that the road had become muddy. Flinx did not care and simply continued walking. Whenever the mud on his boots became thick enough to interfere with his movement, he cleaned them using Prestidigitation and continued onward.
Since leaving Ilioven’s area of responsibility, he had not seen any more farmhouses, and travelers on the road had become much rarer.
The only people he encountered were adventurers traveling toward missions, merchants moving between kingdoms with strong protection from dozens of guards, and nobles who were also journeying.
There were no more ordinary farmers.
