Flinx didn’t plan to wait for Olivia and the others to return home before traveling to Earth. They already knew that he had plans to leave with his countrymen to go somewhere else. This time, his adopted Ilioven family wasn’t worried since they had already experienced Flinx leaving before. In truth, they hadn’t really felt his absence.
He had left, and then suddenly returned with a few of his countrymen, so they assumed the situation would be the same.
Flinx didn’t believe that returning to Earth would cause him to lose his transmigration gift. Their gifts had become a part of the Earthlings’ identity ever since the Torbal Slavers kidnapped them and forced them to mine mana stones for those deranged slavers. He thought that the theory about losing their systems was simply born from the fear of truly losing them.
Their transmigration gifts were the only things that had kept them sane while they were forced to mine mana stones.
When everyone was ready, they didn’t waste any more time. They held hands, and Flinx cast his seventh-level wizard spell, Plane Shift.
Once the spell was activated, they lost their sight for a second or two. When their vision returned, they found themselves standing in the park, with the sun already close to setting. The streetlights suddenly turned on, illuminating the area once again.
“We’re back! This is the park near where I live!” Flinx shouted.
Suddenly, Flinx felt something heavy pressing against him. It felt as if he were being attacked by something. The attack was continuous, creating a throbbing sensation. It felt as if he were inside a bubble, and something outside was trying to break through.
“My system panel is gone!” Ruiz exclaimed.
Everyone stared at Ruiz with shocked expressions. Flinx noticed that they were all staring at the air in front of them, likely attempting to access their system panels. He did the same, but he was relieved when his own system panel appeared.
“I don’t have my system menu either,” Bruce said.
Everyone else confirmed the same thing.
“I can still open my system panel,” Flinx told them.
They all immediately turned their attention toward him.
“Go to the first tab and scroll all the way to the bottom,” Rico instructed.
Flinx followed Rico’s instructions. Beneath the option that the gate had granted him—the one that allowed him to gain experience points at one hundred times the normal rate—he found a newly added option.
“There’s a new option! The gate that gave me the one hundred times experience gain also gave me something else. It says that the gate provided me protection from the consciousness of a world that hasn’t awakened yet. When I opened the description, it said that Earth is still an unawakened world, and its consciousness will attack creatures that possess mana.”
Flinx paused briefly before continuing.
“It also has durability. The shield’s durability is currently at eighty-six percent, and it’s still decreasing. It says that once the durability reaches zero, I will also lose access to my system panel.”
Flinx immediately told everyone that he would be returning to Ilioven and asked if anyone wanted to return with him. Almost everyone shook their heads except Bruce.
“I want to know if I can regain my system after returning to the other world,” Bruce said.
He told everyone that once the cooldown was finished, he would return to Earth immediately. Everyone said they would wait for him.
“Tell the others who want to return to Earth to take their things out of their inventories and place them in bags. That way, they’ll still have their belongings when they return,” Paul advised.
Flinx nodded.
Flinx and Bruce held hands, and he cast Plane Shift again. The two of them reappeared at the open-air meeting place beside Pondy. As soon as they returned, they joined the others who had been waiting for them.
“We have a problem, guys. The moment we returned to Earth, we lost access to our systems except for Flinx,” Bruce announced.
Everyone was shocked.
Flinx explained everything they had discovered. He told them that Earth was classified by their system as an unawakened world, which likely meant it didn’t have mana. More importantly, worlds apparently possessed some form of consciousness, and Earth would attack anyone who had access to mana.
He knew his explanation was probably an oversimplification. The actual process was likely far more complicated than what he understood.
He explained that the moment they arrived on Earth, he felt as if he were being attacked mentally. Thankfully, the gate had granted him a shield. The shield had durability, and based on how quickly it was decreasing, he estimated that he would lose access to his system within an hour or two.
He wasn’t certain of the exact rate.
“My access to the system returned!” Bruce suddenly exclaimed.
Everyone immediately turned toward him.
“I’m back to level one! All the progress I made with my system is gone. My inventory is still here, and I can access it again, but only some of my items. Most of my inventory is locked,” Bruce explained.
Mark suggested that Bruce expand his inventory again, and Bruce immediately did so. Afterward, he retrieved all of his stored items and placed them into a bag.
“You’ll need gold so you’ll have funds when you return to Earth,” Bruce suggested.
Flinx noticed that Bruce didn’t seem too discouraged about losing his transmigration gift.
“I still want to return to my family, and I’m willing to lose my transmigration gift for that. I’ll need a few hours to convert my possessions into things I can use on Earth. Can we return there tomorrow?” Bruce asked.
“Sure. Anyone else who wants to do the same should start preparing immediately. I’ll return to Earth and inform the others that the rest of your return will be postponed.”
Flinx continued.
“Thankfully, the shield protecting me from Earth’s consciousness as a wizard has already been fully restored. Based on what I’ve observed, as long as I’m in an awakened world, the shield recovers extremely quickly.”
“The shield you mentioned… does it do anything else?” Mark asked.
Flinx checked again. After carefully reading the description, he told them that the shield had no other information besides protecting him from the attack of an unawakened world’s consciousness.
After that, Flinx cast Plane Shift and returned to Earth.
The moment he arrived, he immediately opened his system menu and saw that the shield’s durability had started decreasing again.
Everyone was still there waiting for him.
“I told the others what happened. Those who still want to return to Earth despite losing their systems will return tomorrow. They’re preparing by converting most of their assets into things they can sell here.”
Flinx spoke quickly since he had limited time.
“When Bruce returned to Ilioven, he regained access to his system panel, but everything reset to the beginning. He’s back to level one. All the changes he made to his system, like the spells he purchased, disappeared and will need to be bought again. His inventory size also needs to be upgraded again before he can access the items he stored.”
Flinx told everyone that it would be best for all of them to return to Ilioven so they could convert their assets into something useful on Earth. They would need every resource they could gather if they wanted to start over.
Because of that, everyone joined Flinx in returning to Ilioven.
