DMS Chapter 140
DMS Chapter 140
The children never believed that Flinx would raise his hand against them. Ever since they had met him, they had never once seen him angry. What the four children feared most was disappointing him. Instead of finding David’s plea amusing when he begged Olivia not to tell Flinx, she simply agreed.
Olivia understood David’s fear because she felt the same way. Flinx had shown them nothing but kindness, so each of them wanted to make sure that he would always be pleased with them.
Still, it was unavoidable that Flinx would eventually learn about the earth elemental incident. The other shopkeepers who knew about the situation had loose tongues, so instead of remaining silent, Olivia broke her promise to David and told Flinx what had happened.
Thankfully, rather than becoming angry, Flinx was merely amused. He understood that the four children had already learned their lesson and would not repeat the same mistake.
“So, how are Christopher and Ambrose doing with their studies?”
“They’re doing well and are both happy to learn more about the things they enjoy. I just wish Ambrose would stop insisting on becoming an adventurer,” Olivia said with a sigh.
Flinx remained silent. Even without his input, both he and Olivia understood that once Ambrose had set his mind on becoming an adventurer, there was little they could do to stop him.
Olivia then informed Flinx that the four children would be ready to attend school by next month. Rather than feeling afraid, the children were actually excited about the idea.
She explained that the main reason they were unafraid was that everyone knew that their “boss” was a powerful wizard, meaning nobody would dare mistreat them.
“That’s good. It means you’ll be able to fully focus on the shop. I also wanted to tell you that my countrymen will probably copy what I did and open businesses of their own. Like me, they are expert conjurers capable of creating all kinds of items to sell. Because of that, it would be best for you to focus on expanding your business and earning as many gold coins as possible before the market becomes saturated with the novelty items my friends may introduce.”
“Are they going to sell the same things we do?”
“No. I don’t know exactly what they’ll sell, but if they open shops, each one will likely offer different products. You’ve seen the towers they conjured. None of them were alike, so the items they create will probably be just as different. They might even ask for your help, perhaps by hiring workers through you to establish the businesses they want to build. Still, this is only speculation. My countrymen may change their minds. There’s also a chance that all of them will focus solely on delving into dungeons.”
When Olivia asked whether Flinx’s “countrymen” were displaced people like him, he simply nodded before changing the subject. Fortunately, Olivia was perceptive enough to realize that he did not wish to discuss his homeland or the circumstances surrounding his people.
“They’re still gathering funds, so you still have time. To help you a little, I think it would be best if we add a few more products to our inventory. I wanted to discuss which items would be the best additions.”
To keep things simple, Flinx recommended two products: scented alum powder stored in small, plain plastic containers to be used as underarm deodorant, and scented talcum powder.
The main reason Flinx selected those products was that he had found a store in the System Shopping Site that sold them in unlabeled containers, sparing them the trouble of transferring the contents into different packaging.
The scented alum powder, which prevented underarm odor, cost twenty cents for fifty grams, while the talcum powder cost one dollar for one hundred grams. Flinx especially liked the generic appearance of the containers. Aside from simple floral decorations, they resembled the plain packaging used for the soaps they were already selling.
Flinx only purchased a small quantity of both products because Olivia wanted to test them for several days before deciding whether they were worth selling. She intended to try them herself alongside the three salesgirls she had hired.
After giving the products to Olivia, the two continued discussing her plans for the future once she had accumulated enough funds.
“I still don’t have any concrete ideas,” Olivia admitted. “I could continue the same business my family handled before, but I want to try something new. My connections with merchants are steadily growing because of this business, so sooner or later, I believe I’ll discover something I truly want to pursue.”
Flinx simply assured her that he would support her decision.
However, both of them understood that it would be best for Olivia to earn as many coins as possible through their current business while the opportunity still existed. There was a strong possibility that Flinx would become extremely busy in the coming months. Deep down, Olivia also suspected that he might eventually leave Ilioven. After all, Flinx was a foreigner and would likely return to his homeland someday.
What Olivia did not know was that it would probably take Flinx a very long time to reach the level required to teleport back to Earth, his true home dimension. She also did not realize that Flinx no longer considered Earth his home. Aside from a few living relatives, he no longer had any close attachments there.
Flinx appreciated the fact that he could eventually return to Earth whenever he wished, but he had long since begun thinking of it as nothing more than a place to visit. Ilioven, on the other hand, had slowly become his real home. The city of Ilinestor contained several dungeons that allowed him to grow stronger, level up, and gather mana stones.
Flinx also knew that they were not finished with the Torbal Slavers. Rage still burned within him whenever he thought about the wizard enslavers, and he was not alone in that hatred. His fellow Earthlings, who had once suffered as dungeon miner slaves alongside him, felt the same seething fury. Every one of them intended to do everything in their power to destroy the Torbal Slavers.
After visiting Olivia’s shop, Flinx decided to return to his tower and rest. The past few days had been exhausting, and he felt unusually tired. By the time he reached his room, sleepiness had already overtaken him. After taking a shower, he lay down and quickly fell asleep.
When he woke again, he was surprised to discover that it was already late afternoon.
Flinx stepped outside the tower and sat on one of the chairs his fellow Earthlings had arranged in front of the five towers. As he waited for everyone to return, he quietly read a book.
By the time the sun had fully set and darkness covered the city, the first to arrive were Olivia, her two brothers, and the four children.
Christopher brought a large amount of food he had prepared earlier, but instead of waiting for Flinx’s friends, he suggested that everyone eat first since Flinx’s countrymen would most likely return late. In the end, it proved to be the correct decision because his fellow Earthlings still had not returned even after they had finished eating.
The group spent the next hour talking together, but since everyone had already endured a busy day, they eventually retired to their rooms inside Flinx’s tower to rest.
It was close to midnight when Flinx’s fellow Earthlings finally returned. He had already expected it since the same thing had happened to him the first time he delved into a dungeon.
