Flinx, together with Olivia, her two brothers, Christopher and Ambrose, and Violet, was waking on the streets, followed by three powerful-looking stone golems. People were staring at them, and he knew that it was not just because of the stone golems but because David, Arcios, and Keero were on the golems’ shoulders, shouting their excitement.
Olivia was glaring at the three boys since they were making such a spectacle of themselves, and Flinx just ignored them.
They were headed towards a nearby shop that sells carts. As per Flinx’s advice, they planned to purchase a cart first to have somewhere to put the purchases they would be making that day. Based on the list of items that they were planning to buy, they would surely need the cart.
“Should we purchase an animal for the cart? Maybe like a donkey?” Olivia asked.
“No. We can just let one of the golems pull it,” Flinx replied.
“We can’t do that! It’s beneath their dignity.” Ambrose said.
“They’re summoned elementals. I’ve no idea if they have dignity, but the reason I conjured three of them was that one of them was supposed to pull the cart and the other two would be your guards,” Flinx told the boy.
Unfortunately, while they were walking, Keero fell from the shoulder of one of the stone golems, dislocating the boy’s shoulder. Keero shouted and started crying while holding his arm. Flinx rushed to the boy but commanded David and Arcios to get down from the golem first. He immediately cast the 1st-level spell Healing Elixir and had Keero drink it. Without doing anything, they saw the shoulder fixing itself. Everyone gasped. Even Flinx did, since it was the first time he saw the Healing Elixir spell work. The effect was a little different from the healing potions that the wizard enslavers gave the slaves each week.
“Does it still hurt?” Flinx asked the boy who had stopped crying.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore!” Keero said after testing out his shoulder.
After Keero found that he wasn’t feeling pain anymore, he suddenly jumped out, and Flinx saw that the boy intended to climb back up on the golem’s shoulder.
“You three can’t do that anymore! One of you has already fallen, and that means that the chance for any of you falling is great!” Flinx scolded the three boys while Violet looked smugly at them. She still resented the fact that Olivia forbade her from climbing the golem's shoulders.
David and Arcios glared at Keero, blaming their friend. They thought that the reason they were not allowed to treat the stone golems as their magical mounts anymore was because of him. Keero just glared back at them and started looking surly.
“What was that potion you had Keero drink?” Olivia asked.
“It’s a healing elixir that I conjured,” Flinx replied.
“How powerful is it? Can you sell it?” Olivia asked.
Flinx knew Olivia was still thinking about the shop that he told them they would open to help them earn coins. More than likely, Olivia was still thinking of which items they could sell.
“We can’t sell it. The potion needed to be consumed immediately once conjured and would dissipate in time. If you’re still thinking which items you can sell, try to think of items you can get in the city or from a supplier and not from me, since the reason why I wanted the family to have a shop is for you to have a source of income other than the ones I give.”
Olivia nodded her understanding. After a while, they reached the shop that was selling carts. It’s a shop opened by a family of carpenters. They were selling all kinds of things like beds, wardrobes, and other wooden furniture.
Flinx let Olivia and her brothers talk to the shopkeeper. He didn’t plan to involve himself in shopping. Even though he learned about most of the prices of items from Camryn and Oliman, Olivia and her brothers were still more knowledgeable about the common prices compared to him. Especially since they were penny-pinching fallen nobles who knew how to take care of their coins.
After the transaction was over, Flinx knew that the decision to let Olivia handle the merchant was the correct one. She impressively brought down the price.
The cart they chose had wooden wheels, and it wasn’t too large. Flinx thought that even though it looked sturdy, more than likely, the wheels would be prone to breakage. It didn’t matter too much to him because if it broke, he could just ask Christopher or Ambrose to bring it somewhere where it could be fixed, or even use the Cantrip spell Mending.
After Olivia paid the shopkeeper for the cart, Ambrose commanded one of the stone golems to pull it, which the golem obeyed immediately.
Flinx just sighed when he saw David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet jumping inside the cart. He should have expected that action from the kids. While David and the others were enjoying themselves riding the cart that started moving since they pestered Ambrose and Christopher to command the golem to start moving, Olivia was still talking with the shopkeeper. Based on what he heard from the snippets of their conversation, Olivia was asking about the best nearby places where they could purchase different things.
In the meantime, Flinx surreptitiously kept casting the 1st-level spell Healing Elixir. He only managed to collect four Healing Elixirs when Olivia completed her conversation with the shopkeeper.
“Here,” Flinx said, then gave the four healing elixirs to Olivia.
“What’s this for?” Olivia asked when he saw what Flinx gave her.
“I’ll not be joining you for the rest of your shopping trip. I’ll go to the dungeon to check it out a little and will be home later tonight. Those elixirs would heal any injuries that any of you might receive. I’m expecting there might be some since the kids are so active. Those potions only had 24 hour duration. After that, they will disappear. The golems should be able to guard you without any issue.”
“You’re right about that. Didn’t you see how that shopkeeper behaved towards me? He was so scared of offending me, as if I would command the golems to attack him suddenly,” Olivia giggled.
If Flinx was being honest, he didn’t notice anything like that. Still, the fact that the golems were able to assist Olvia in her shopping was nice.
“I thought you told us that your potions wouldn’t last long?” Ambrose asked.
“24 hours isn’t long.”
Flinx then told the kids to follow Olivia and help her buy everyone’s things. He told them that he had something to do and would be back later that night. The kids just nodded, excited at the prospect that they would spend the days buying things.
“Is 300 gold coins enough?” Flinx asked Olivia, and she said that it was more than enough.
Flinx started walking towards the dungeon of Mara. He already knew the way since it was the first place that he asked David and the others to bring him to in this area. Once he arrived there, he saw a long queue at the entrance of the dungeon, and he joined it. He wasn’t the only one who was planning to enter solo.
Since Flinx was displaying his Diamond Rank card prominently as a medallion on his chest, just like the other adventurers, he commanded respect from the nearby adventurers. Flinx planned to enter the 10th floor. He wanted to gauge the monsters there and wouldn't mind if he couldn’t recoup the 10 gold coins that he would pay for the entrance to the 10th floor.
