DMS Chapter 64
DMS Chapter 64
“I advised that you avoid going solo if you planned to delve into the deeper floors of Mara’s Dungeon. It’s truly dangerous even with your diverse set of spells,” Semanor told Flinx.
He was amused that the four street rats that Flinx hired as his guide looked concerned that Flinx would be endangered. It warmed him that the kids were treating him as one of them. More than likely, it was because Flinx told them that he, too, was an orphan and that, against all odds, had turned himself into a powerful wizard.
Flinx was basically an inspiration for them. Even if he couldn’t help them become magic casters, the fact was, it brought them hope that with perseverance and luck, they could change their fate from being an orphaned street rat to someone powerful. Flinx was a little glad to see the glimmers of ambition in the four kids’ eyes.
“You’re right. I will probably join a group. Even when I do delve alone due to my curiosity, I’ll make sure to take extreme care. The most valuable thing I own right now is my life, and I wouldn’t waste it due to something small like my pride,” Flinx told the shield warrior.
Semanor just shook his head when Flinx referred to his pride as small. Being a dungeon miner slave, pride was the least valuable thing he had. He was used to rubbing his face into dirt to make sure that it’s bloodied and dirty enough that those wizards who preferred to rape men would not be interested in him. He turned his face away from the sight of his fellow earthlings being tortured by the wizard enslavers simply because he didn’t have the power to do anything. After all, if he did act, it would only result in his death.
Flinx understood Semanor’s reaction to his statement. Powerful warriors such as the shield warrior had a tremendous amount of pride in their achievements and wouldn’t understand someone who thought of pride as something lowly.
The four kids just stared at them, not understanding the conversation. Flinx said goodbye and left Semanor’s office.
“Where to next?” Runt asked Flinx.
“I hired you as my guides, so guide me to where the gold level dungeons were. I wanted to learn its location first. Then I’ll look for a place to stay, preferably near the dungeon.”
Runt and the other three street rats whom Flinx hired as his guide excitedly led him to the Dungeon of Mara. They walked since it was near the Adventurer Guild branch, which was just a 30-minute walk.
Upon seeing the dungeon’s entrance, Flinx just shook his head at the cliché huge cavern opening. The opening was being guarded by several guards, and there was a building beside it.
When he got near the dungeon entrance, based on Flinx’s observation, the building was some sort of barracks where the guards were staying. There was a counter in the barracks where adventurers could go to pay the fee for entering the dungeon.
Flinx approached what he saw as an information kiosk manned by a guy who was reading a book.
“Excuse me. I need information about the dungeon,” Flinx told the guy and then showed off his newly printed Diamond Rank guild card.
The man behind the counter was startled at first, and looked like the guy was prepared to berate Flinx, but when the guy saw the diamond rank guild card, stopped himself. Flinx heard the four kids behind him giggling at the guy’s sour face.
“Good afternoon, sir. What do you want to know?” the man asked while trying to smile despite the sour face, which made the kids laugh harder.
“I will need comprehensive knowledge about the dungeon. Do you have someone that I can talk to regarding the information I want? I’m willing to pay,” Flinx told the guy, who immediately told him that there was such a service.
Flinx was startled when the guy immediately ran off somewhere. Based on the situation, the information guy probably went somewhere to call someone to attend to Flinx.
“That man is so stupid!” Flea said while laughing.
“Yeah! He looked like he ate a lemon and it got stuck on his throat,” Kid added.
“He looked like a toad!” Runt said and laughed uproariously, and their description of the kiosk guy became crueler by the second.
Flinx shook his head at the kids' cruel taunts. Thankfully, the guy wasn’t there to hear the kids.
The guy returned after five minutes, followed by a mature woman who was wearing a soldier’s attire. The woman looked to be approaching her forties.
The woman called herself Emily and asked Flinx to pay first through the sour-looking guy. He was surprised at the high amount of the fee, which was 10 gold coins, but he needed the information. Flinx paid without any hesitation.
After that, the woman invited him to her office. Emily even allowed the four street rats to follow him in her office.
Flinx wasn’t surprised that Emily knew who he was. He assumed that Emily had access to the Adventurer Guild’s version of the information network using those crystal balls or something. Flinx wondered with amusement if their crystal balls also show movies.
Flinx learned from Emily that the Mara Dungeon had 50 floors. The first 10 floors had monsters that could be killed by Iron rank adventurers. The next 10 would be for the Copper ranks and so on. That meant that as a Diamond rank adventurer, he could delve into the 30th floor and below.
The dungeon was not an instance dungeon. That meant that adventurers could meet each other inside. That made delving incredibly dangerous because anything could happen inside. Any remains would be eaten by the dungeon, so if a crime happened, it would be hard to prove since the evidence would be consumed by the dungeon. Therefore, stealing and murder were rampant inside.
Thankfully, being a diamond rank adventurer, Flinx could just delve from the 40th floor and below. Delvers into those floors were all well-known since they were all high-ranking adventurers, and there were just a few of them. Each floor of the dungeons was incredibly large, and monsters respawned at an extremely fast pace.
A single floor from the 1st floor to the 20th floor could be completed within a day. The deeper floors would be longer. The groups that delved from the 30th floor and below would usually spend from 2 to 4 days before completing their dungeon runs.
One of the advantages that the Mara Dungeon had was that adventurers could exit the dungeon using the entrance on each floor. Unlike some of those well-known dungeons that one needed to traverse every floor before one could exit.
Every 10 floors of the dungeon of Mara, adventurers would find an extremely powerful monster that looked like the monsters’ leader before they could step onto the next floor. Basically a boss, but they don’t call them “boss” monster. Just the most powerful monsters on the floor. They weren’t even leaders since the “boss” monsters didn’t command the other monsters.
Every time adventurers enter the dungeon, they have to pay gold coins. For the first 10 floors, it was 10 gold coins per person. For the 11th floor and until the 20th floor, it would be 20 gold coins, and so on. Still, with the amount of mana stones and materials one could receive from the dungeons, the adventurers still earned a lot of gold coins.
According to Emily, a typical high-ranking adventurer group would usually delve into the dungeon once a week, spending three to four days per delve.
