During the next three days, the merchant caravan’s journey had been peaceful. The last attack they had encountered was from the kobolds that happened just outside Beldor Town. Manos and Samir, the two caravan guards who usually patrol near Flinx’s wagon, told him that once they were far from the forest bordering Beldor town, monster attacks would be rare.
Bandits were also rare in this part of the continent since the population was small, and that meant that there were few things worth stealing. One other thing that prevented bandits from forming in these locations was that the number of powerful older adventurers was high in number. The older adventurers who came from these parts would usually return home after retiring. Aside from that, the forests were also teeming with monsters, so they could still hunt monsters without delving into dungeons if they wanted valuable materials and mana stones. Because of that, bandits tended to gravitate towards the south, where the richer kingdoms and cities were.
In those three days, all the people in the caravan, including the guards, brought their laundry to him to be cleaned by his Prestidigitation Spell. It was not as bothersome as he initially thought it would be, since Rendra would prepare everything before she called him to cast his spell, and everything would be finished in an hour. Not only that, the merchants and the guards would probably request him to clean their things once a week. He asked Rendra to keep the payment and just give him his share once they reached Ilioven.
Flinx also spent the last three days preparing for things that would allow him to start cooking. Buying cooked meals from the part of his System Shopping Site that contained cooked food cost him around 200 dollars, just for the three days of buying breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After carefully doing his research using the internet and preparing recipes, and finally buying groceries worth 300 dollars, he now had the ingredients for meals that should last him for four to six weeks.
He needed to buy a few more things that would allow him to cook. He bought a double-burner camping stove with leg attachment and side shelves for 100 dollars, a 20-pound propane tank for 60 dollars, a foldable camping table for 60 dollars, and a couple of foldable camping chairs for 60 dollars as well. Flinx also needed to buy kitchenware. He spent 100 dollars on a 12-piece non-stick cookware set, 30 dollars for a dinnerware set, and 50 dollars for 50 plastic meal prep containers. He also spent 20 dollars on miscellaneous kitchen tools like a cutting board and stuff. All in all, he spent 480 dollars on the tools that he would use to cook. At the very least, the 480 dollars was an investment. The only thing that he would need to keep buying was the propane tank, but according to his research, the propane tank that he bought should last him 1 to 2 weeks, depending on use. Flinx’s account in his System Shopping Site still had a total of 9,000 dollars left.
At the very least, because of his Prestidigitation spell, he did not need to buy other necessities like soap and toothpaste. Thankfully, his 4th tab space was now huge. It was 100 cubic meters and would allow him to store all his things, and the best thing was that nothing would spoil since it also had a function that stopped the time inside it.
“It’s strange that every time we camp, you just watch us prepare. I’ve never seen you eat. Don’t you require food anymore?” Oliman asked jokingly.
They knew Flinx ate since they could smell the food that he purchased from his System.
“Starting tonight, I’ll start cooking. I’ve already finished all the cooked food in my spatial item,” Flinx replied.
When the sun had set, and the caravan stopped, and everyone prepared to camp, the nearby merchants like Camryn, Oliman, Rendra, and her family, who were in the wagon behind Flinx’s wagon, and Darwin and his family, who were in the wagon in front of his wagon, were surprised when they saw him preparing as well. Flinx planned to spend several hours cooking to prepare his meals for the next few weeks. Basically, he planned to use all the groceries that he purchased so that he did not have to cook every night. He would utilize the 4th tab space to stop time to store all the food that he would cook.
He brought out all the things that he purchased, and they caused a commotion. Flinx expected it since his things were from modern Earth. The excuse that he kept giving was that they were ordinary things from his homeland. Everyone already knew that he was accidentally transported from a foreign kingdom across the ocean anyway, since the Berdol townsfolk did not keep it a secret.
Flinx started cutting, seasoning, and preparing. He saw that the people near his wagon started watching him after they were done preparing for the night. He told them that he planned to cook for the whole night to prepare his food for the next few weeks since his spatial item would keep everything fresh.
The merchants even took the effort of bringing their chairs to watch him. Flinx laughed when he saw that they were planning to treat his cooking as some sort of cooking show. He decided to accommodate them and describe all the things that he was doing as if he were a host in a cooking show. It only lasted for an hour, though, since he got tired after that.
The first dish that he cooked was Spaghetti. Once he started sauteing the ingredients, the smell flooded the area, and soon, a lot of the people came to watch him. Thankfully, no one bothered him since Rendra was the one who explained to the newcomers what Flinx was doing.
Once the Spaghetti was done, he managed to fill out five plastic containers of it, and he immediately stored them in his 4th tab space. Then he cleaned everything using his Prestidigitation Spell.
The next dish he prepared was fried chicken, rice, and mixed salad, and he was able to fill eight plastic containers.
By the third hour, everyone left complaining that watching him cook was making them hungry, even though they had already eaten.
During the next five hours, Flinx did not stop cooking. He only stopped when he filled out all 50 of the plastic containers that he bought, and the containers that he selected were the larger ones. The last time that he cooked was the food that he planned to eat that night. He still had a third of the groceries that he bought.
After he was done, he cleaned everything, which was incredibly easy for him since he just needed to cast his Prestidigitation spell and store everything in his 4th tab space. He did not even feel tired. As a matter of fact, he enjoyed everything and would not mind doing it again. He planned to do so once all the food that he cooked, which would last him three weeks. In his next cooking session, he planned to purchase another 50 plastic containers.
Before resting, Flinx also cleaned himself since he did not want his sleeping bag to smell of food. Once he was thoroughly clean, he entertained himself first before sleeping by checking out all the food that he cooked in his 4th tab space.
Flinx also noticed that he had drunk the last of the bottled water that he bought. He had been buying them one at a time, since if he wanted them cold and single cold water bottle cost him two dollars in the restaurant section of his System Shopping Site.
