DMS Chapter 44
DMS Chapter 44
Watching the merchant caravan’s preparation was making Flinx truly excited. He felt like he was on the verge of a brand new adventure. Traveling the lands, encountering different sights and cultures, seeing different people, and more. The best part was that, because of his system, he had the power to make his travel extremely comfortable. It was like he was a very rich traveler planning to tour the world, knowing that with his money, the travel experience would be glorious.
Even Barthos and Martha were incredibly busy managing the caravan. Their two children were running around the place. They were with the other kids from the town, and that meant that the merchants trusted the people in this town to allow their kids to run around without supervision.
Soon, the Barthos’s two kids, both boys, one of them looked to be around 9 or 10, and the other looked younger, around 7 or 8, went to him with the other town children.
“Hey! The other kids told us that you’re a magic storyteller!” the older boy of Barthos’s shouted.
“My name is Flinx. What’s yours?” Flinx asked the kid.
”I’m Julian, and this is Arlon, my younger brother. So are you a magic storyteller?” Julian asked again.
“I’m an adventurer. When I arrived in this town, I didn’t know the language, and a priest taught me. To practice the common tongue, I told fairytale stories from where I came from. To make it interesting, I also used magic to show some images,” Flinx told the kids.
He didn’t know how to behave towards children, so he talked to them as if he were talking to someone who was his age.
“Can you tell us stories with your magic while we’re traveling?” Julian asked.
“How much are you going to pay?” Flinx asked with a smile.
“The kids in this town didn’t pay you!” Barthos’s son shouted.
“The town paid me by providing me a place to stay and taught me the common tongue,” Flinx replied calmly.
“You’re mean!” Julian shouted and then ran away, and Flinx just laughed. His brother waved his little hand and followed his older brother.
Barthos’s sons returned to playing with the other town kids. They did not bother Flinx since they knew that it was the day he was leaving, and normally, he would be busy with preparation, but since he had nothing to prepare with, he was just standing there watching and waiting. He was enjoying the preparations of everyone greatly.
Soon, the merchant caravan was ready to depart, so Flinx entered the large carriage assigned to him. His living space for the next few weeks would be half of the wagon near the door, and the other half would be filled with items that the merchants would sell to towns and villages. Thankfully, the items did not smell since they seemed to be dried products like fabric, ready-made clothes, hats, that sort of thing. They were inside boxes, so the whole wagon was, at the very least, neat.
He was also thankful that there were windows in the wagon. Normally, the windows in a wagon filled with items would be closed, but Barthos opened the window near the door for Flinx. He felt miffed that Barthos did not give him a chair and told him to use one of the boxes inside the wagon as his chair, which meant that the caravan master would not provide him with anything else, like bedding and other stuff.
Flinx had decided to deposit 100 low mana stones to his System Shopping site for his travel expenses, so before the start of his journey, his Shopping Site had a total of 10,400 dollars. He spent 150 dollars on a sturdy, comfortable faux leather-covered chair that he thought would not move around while the wagon was moving and placed it beside the window.
He thought that once he was told to enter the wagon, the merchant caravan would start moving, but one of the guards told him that it would probably take another hour before the caravan would finally move. Instead of getting annoyed with the delay, Flinx decided to review his finances.
Flinx had a total of 4,176 low-level mana stones, 25 medium-level mana stones, and 2 high-level mana stones. He also had 1,340 gold coins in his inventory. The other items in his 4th tab space were his Android tablet, solar charger, t-shirts, which he purchased in a bundle, socks, and underwear, which also came in a bundle. He checked his System Shopping Site again and was happy to see the 10,250 dollars there.
His 4th tab space was only as large as one cubic meter, and since he had so few belongings, he did not have the need to enlarge it, but decided to do so because purchasing the cantrip level 4th tab space would only cost him 1 low-level mana stones and the size would increase to 10 cubic meters. The next level is the 1st level, basically just like his spell levels. The price jumped to 1 medium-level mana stone, but the size would actually increase to 100 cubic meters. The next was the 2nd level, with a price of 1 high-level mana stone, and the size would jump to 1000 cubic meters. He decided to hold off on buying that since he only had 2 high-level mana stones, and 100 cubic meters was large enough for his current needs.
Flinx thought that it would be better for him to cook his food while traveling because cooking would decrease his spending expenses. Not only that, he knew that cooking would be healthier. He also knew how to cook for himself since he had been doing so for a long time, ever since he was orphaned. He knew that purchasing cooked meals from fast food and restaurants from his System Shopping site was an indulgence brought by the fact that he rarely did something like it back on Earth.
He also thought of the fact that his 4th tab space, like any other magical inventory, seemed to stop time inside it, based on the state of the monster corpses he stored in it when he submitted them to the Adventurer Guild. That meant that it would work as a large refrigerator and would keep whatever ingredients or groceries that he purchased from his System Shopping Site as fresh as the day he bought them.
Flinx's next thought was meal prepping. Should he cook a lot of food so he would have it ready whenever, or just cook during meal times?
Upon hearing that the caravan would start moving, Flinx decided to just wing it first and would decide at a later time regarding cooking his food. The only ones who were there to wave goodbye to the caravan were the town kids.
Flinx was really not expecting anyone to be there. He had already said his goodbyes to all the people he had gotten close to. Still, he enthusiastically waved goodbye to the kids and was comforted by the fact that he could teleport back to this town whenever he wanted. He was not afraid that he would forget about Baldor Town since he had pictures on his Android tablet of the place.
When the caravan reached the gate, Flinx waved goodbye to the guards through the wagon window, and they waved back at him. Soon, the town was behind the merchant caravan, and he turned his gaze to the surrounding area.
