DMS Chapter 41
DMS Chapter 41
The next time Flinx opened his eyes, he saw that he was in an unfamiliar room. He looked around with his eyes still grainy from sleep, and he had a massive headache. He then remembered that he drunk an ungodly amount of alcohol the night before, and based on the noise that he could hear from outside, he was probably in one of the rooms above the tavern.
Flinx did not know how he got here, but more than likely, some of the other adventurers carried him here. He checked the time using the 1st tab in his system and saw that it was already ten in the morning. Because of the headache that felt like tiny creatures were hammering his head, Flinx immediately cast the Healing Elixir spell, drank it, and was relieved that the headache began to fade.
Then he smelled something vile. He realized that he was smelling himself. He immediately swapped the spells in his spell slots with the Prestidigitation spell and cast it several times on himself and his surroundings until he, and all of the area around him, were sparkling clean. He did not stop casting the spell until he could not smell the stink of his sweat and the sourness of stale alcohol.
Once he thought that he looked and smelled presentable, he went outside the room to settle his bill. After all his business with the tavern was done, he was surprised that his bill only reached 30 gold coins. He thought that it would be more than that, but he knew that the still was not used to the pricing in this world. What Flinx did not know was that 30 gold coins were an astronomical amount for a regular person. Basically, the adventurers took advantage of the party and consume enormous amount of alcohol.
Thankfully, because of his Prestidigitation spell, Flinx looked presentable. He went to the guild, which was just beside the tavern, and saw Pierce manning the office.
“Flinx, you’re here! I have your gold card!” Norban’s nephew exclaimed. Flinx wondered why the guy kept saying the obvious, but he just thought that the kid’s excitable nature was due to his young age.
The card that was handed to him looked exquisite. It looked like it was made of metal with gold trimmings and was as small as a credit card. Flinx was told to put a drop of blood on it to activate its magic, so he did. At first, he thought that it would show typical gaming stats, but the card simply stated his name and the world Magic Caster underneath it.
Pierce informed him his card would indicate his status in the guild when it was touched to some sort of magic item. Basically, the records would show whether he had a clean record or if he did something nefarious. He liked the simplicity of the card. When he asked about his other records, like the amount and kind of quests he completed, Pierce told him that that kind of information would only be available to the one handling his records at the time business was being conducted between him and the guild.
Pierce also informed him that the merchant caravan had arrived and had set up their business beside the mayor’s house. According to Norban’s nephew, caravans usually would only stay for around three days.
Flinx decided to return to the tavern so he could continue renting the room for two more days or for as long as the caravan was still in town. He wanted to be near the caravan. After that, he headed to where the caravan was set up. He wanted to talk to the caravan master, so he could join it until they reached Ilioven, the capital city of the kingdom of Ilinestor.
When he arrived at the location, Flinx saw that it might take a while before he could speak with the caravan master. The caravan was incredibly busy, since it appeared that all the townsfolk and most of the adventurers were there, trading with the merchants. When people noticed that he was there, a lot of them greeted him. He tried to reciprocate, but unfortunately, he had not learn most of the people’s names.
Still, someone helpful told him that the Caravan Master should be able to speak with him because most of the busy people dealing with the people there were his men. He approached one of the caravan guards and asked where the caravan master was, and he was finally led to the biggest covered cart. The guard knocked on the door, and a portly man opened it.
Flinx saw the inside of the huge carriage, cart, wagon, or whatever it was called. He saw that the portly man, a somewhat large woman, and two children were in the middle of eating.
“What is it, Ludur?” Asked the portly man, whom Flinx assumed was the caravan master.
The caravan master looked at Flinx.
“Hello, sir. If you want, I can return until you’re done with your meal,” Flinx hastily said.
“No, it’s alright, we're just having a late breakfast, and we’re just about done anyway,” The man said and closed the door.
His wife reopened the carriage door, glared at the caravan master, and joined in.
“My name is Barthos, and this is my wife, Martha. How can I help you, master?...” the caravan master asked.
“My name is Flinx. I’m a magic caster and a gold rank adventurer. I want to join your caravan until we reach Ilioven,” Flinx said.
“You can certainly join us, but it would be better if you travel directly there. As a merchant caravan, we have to stop at major towns along the way. If you travel alone by carriage or horse, it would probably take you just a month to reach Ilioven, but if you join us, it would take twice that,” Barthos said.
Flinx was taken aback at the large time it would take for him to travel to the capital city. He did not expect that. Still, he thought that it would be better if he went to the capital city as soon as possible instead of delaying it because of the distance.
“Of course, it would be safe if you do join us since our caravan is very well protected,” the caravan master said.
“How much for me to travel with your caravan?”
“If you don’t have a mount and are planning to ride inside one of our luxurious carriages, it would only cost you 30 gold coins. Dinner is included!”
Flinx laughed at how Barthos presented his caravan.
“I don’t need food. How much if I just travel with you? As I’ve said, I’m also a gold rank magic caster. That means that I can help in defending the caravan.”
“We don’t need you to defend the caravan. If we’re not going to provide you with food, you just need to pay 25 coins. Half before we leave, and half once we arrive on Ilioven.”
Flinx thought about it for a moment and simply handed the full 25 gold coins to Barthos. He now only had 45 gold coins left in his 4th tab space, but he knew that he would be able to earn more gold coins while traveling. He still had 10 kilos of salt in his 4th tab space, and he knew that he would be able to sell it for a large amount of gold coins.
