Ko-chan’s Chronicles

Chapter 50: Ko-chan’s Carnival (1)

We arrived at the school well before the event would start, as we had much to get ready.

"Ko-chan, we're here~ What did you think of the new and improved car seat?" Matsuko continued teasing me all the way to the school.

"Mmmm!" I shook my head and protested, but the belts, now magically enhanced, kept even my superpowered body from putting up any resistance.

Matsuko laughed innocently, "Sorry, Ko-chan, I forgot that I turned off your powers~" She gave me a kiss and my sight finally returned.

"Ah! You do that so much nowadays, My Lady! Leave me a chance, won't you?" I whined, as usual.

"Oh no, you're much more fun to tease when you don't have powers to use. You can't take away my enjoyment, can you?" Matsuko poked my cheek as she smiled at me.

I puffed my cheeks and acted mad, then looked away. She laughed and started to release me from the car seat. "Remember, Ko-chan, the students don't know about magic, so absolutely no powers. I'll keep your powers disabled just in case you forget."

"Hey, wait, I promise I won---" My telepathy shut off in the middle of my line, so all I could do was glare at Matsuko.

She gave me a kiss. "I'll let you keep your sight. I wouldn't want you to miss this event, since you're the star~"

The scene at the school was bustling. Outside the gates, students had already started to gather. Inside the gates, dozens of girls in tutus had already started unpacking boxes, setting up chairs, assembling the courses for the challenges, and hanging merch on racks for sale.

Naruyo started to walk towards the assistants milling around when she turned around and looked at Matsuko. "Vibrators off. Play later. Work now."

Matsuko smiled "Oh, so it's a play date now? Very well, I accept. I'll plan out a cute costume for you to wear." Naruyo's vibrators fell silent, but she didn't seem happy, knowing she accidentally signed herself up for more games after the carnival.

Naruyo immediately went into administrator mode, flipping her notebook and walking up to one of the girls in tutus. "Status report."

The girl bowed slightly. "Young miss. We've brought everything you asked for. The family approved all of your requests, and sent forty assistants to help run the event. We had plenty of the uniforms you created, so we went ahead and passed them out. How do I look?"

Naruyo looked her up and down. "Acceptable. Complete all assembly. Report back."

As she was walking away, she turned around and pointed at Asami in the trunk of the car. "Put her on display. No need to be gentle."

Naruyo grabbed my arm and led me towards some of the exhibits. "Borrow for a while. Return later." She looked at Matsuko then left without waiting for a reply.

She showed me the eight challenge locations. "Need demonstration. Prove possible."

I nodded. The students wouldn't be able to claim it was impossible if I was able to complete it first.

Next, the shop. I saw racks and racks and racks of tutus, wings, and accessories. It was incredible.

Lastly, she took me to see the photo booth.

Naruyo smiled. "Collect eight pins. Get photo taken."

It seemed like I would be busy today. We left to rejoin the group and wait for the event to start.

"Are you enacting your plan?" Hinari stood behind Sakari, who was typing quickly on her phone.

"Pre-seeding the crowd. We need to get them all to know what the stakes are today." Sakari smiled as she typed.

"Hey, guys, did you see? The Casino Night event somehow turned into something called the 'Ko-chan Carnival'. Do we have any plans as a club?"

"I'm already at the gates, which member of the fan club would dare to miss this event?

"I managed to snag a flyer describing the events. It looks like they have a few things we should be interested in. Most importantly is the end. They are auctioning off a date with Ko-chan. We can't allow the Holy Knight to outbid us, even if we have to pool our tokens. We should make sure we have enough to win for sure."

"That's fine, but only one of us can win it. Did you see the 'Ko-chan Challenge'? Anyone who finishes all eight levels will get a photo opportunity with Ko-chan. We should share our strategies here so we can all get a photo."

"I saw there was a harder version, the 'secret level', where you have to wear authentic gear that is the same as Ko-chan's. If you succeed, you get a personal congratulatory kiss from Ko-chan."

"Guys, I just saw Ko-chan through the gate. Her bunny girl costume is melting my heart!" *attached picture*

"Oh my god... I had no idea bunny Ko-chan could be this powerful. I need to win that date now."

"Have fun with that. I plan to win every challenge and get all eight congratulations messages."

"Yeah right. I don't think I'll get all eight, but I'll definitely get more than you."

"Those are some tough words there, can you back them up?"

"We should make a leaderboard for total challenges completed, what do you think?"

"Approved. Get ready to get wrecked, people"

Hinari's eyes glazed over at the speed that Sakari was able to type. What stuck out to her was that, compared to the other chatters, the messages Sakari sent out seemed to be tinged a little in pink.

"Well, this should do for now. They're already getting into the competitive mood, so let's let them stew for a bit." Sakari turned off her phone and stood up.

"It should be time to start, huh?" Sakari looked over at the attendants gathering towards the gate.

Matsuko stood on a stage in her elegant and voluminous dress, looking down at the crowd outside the gate. She took a microphone from a stand and began her speech. "Welcome, ladies, to Ko-chan Carnival~ We have developed several attractions for you tonight. You yourselves voted overwhelmingly for everything Ko-chan, and we agree that she is amazing, so we were happy to accede to the results! So get out there, complete those challenges, collect those pins, and get personal access to the lovely school council president, Ko-chan!"

As she was walking around the stage swishing her skirts, a light turned on, showing me off to the entire crowd. I tried to act cute and do a little wink and nod, and the entire crowd erupted.

Someone yelled "OH MY GOD SHE'S TOO CUTE!" at the top of their lungs, and that was the trigger to the gates opening and hundreds of students flooding in.

The event filled with life as the students dispersed across the various events. Not everyone was excited though. A group of girls were standing around, looking glum as they talked under the light of a streetlamp.

"What a garish display. 80% of the exhibits are related to Kogamo in some way. Does she really deserve this level of adoration?" One girl looked like she was about to spit on the ground with every word.

"Did you see the girl near the information booth? I think they paid someone to put on Kogamo's uniform and squirm around acting like they can't get out. They even put on a blindfold so no one could figure out who it is and harass them for doing something so embarrassing later." Another girl scoffed as she recounted what she had seen earlier.

"Did you see the ridiculous games? Ko-chan challenges? What a joke. Acting like Kogamo is doing anything special by running around in a frilly dress and pretending to be cute all day." A third girl tossed out her own disparaging remark.

"You know, if you really think it's all fake and a setup, there's an easy way to prove it. All you have to do is go complete the challenges, and show everyone that it's no big deal." A voice from nearby spoke to them.

"...Kogamo? No.. you're far too tall. A fan, then? You're wearing her costume so you must like her, at least." The first girl quipped back.

"You might want to look around, Miss Barbed Tongue. There's people in this costume everywhere. All the staff are wearing it, and there's a merch booth selling costumes, and there's a huge line waiting to get one. Before the end of the night, you might even be one of the few without it." Sakari smirked as she verbally sparred with the girl.

"Who cares. What do you want? Leave us alone." The girl got annoyed at being questioned.

"Oh, not much. Just observing some people with a whole lot of talk but absolutely no walk. You want to talk trash, do it when you have the right to." Sakari's words were laced with small amounts of magic, causing anyone who heard them to be unreasonably incensed by them.

"Who are you anyhow! You have no idea what you're talking about! Anyone could clear those challenges, just wait." She stormed off towards the first challenge, followed by her friends, who seemed less impressed.

Hinari walked back and forth with a microphone clipped to her ear. "Welcome, ladies, to the Ko-chan challenges! I'm your host for this series of demonstrations, school council member Hinari~" She made a little curtsey and bowed.

"I'm here tonight with the lady of the hour, our very own little fairy Ko-chan! Well, I guess tonight she's a little bunny~" The crowd gave a little laugh to her joke.

I looked around at the crowd, a little nervous. Naruyo had released the Power of Time for the demonstrations, since it would interfere with some of the missions. I gave a little wave, causing a few members to squeal, and then waited for Hinari to continue.

"I'm sure all of you know who Ko-chan is, but did you know about all the challenges she has faced while acting as president? We've created eight challenges that will help you learn about her path to success, or live it yourself, if you are up to the challenge." Hinari worked the crowd with a little backstory.

"Each challenge introduces one episode from Ko-chan's life, and completing it will give you one pin from the set of collectable pins. If you collect all the pins, they form a complete image of Ko-chan, and you will also win a chance for a photo with the beautiful and cute bunny Ko-chan~" Hinari continued her explanation

"Well, let's introduce the first test. In order to train for the maid cafe earlier this year, Ko-chan endured days of training to walk on the boots she has become known for. In this challenge, you must complete a test she had to complete during that training. It is very simple. Get on this beam." Hinari stepped up onto the beam and started walking.

"Walk all the way to the end without falling, and you complete it. Of course, you guys don't need to wear ballet heels." She laughed a bit as she walked.

"Unless of course you are feeling up to the challenge. Each challenge has a secret, harder version. You'll need to prove you can do it just as well as Ko-chan by completing the challenge wearing the same outfit she did at the time." She hopped down from the end of the beam.

"If you prove you are as good as Ko-chan, then you can get a personal congratulations kiss on the cheek for each challenge you complete. What a chance!" She leaned down and placed her cheek in front of me, and I gave her a quick kiss.

"Just one thing. Since the authentic gear is expensive, we have an additional rule. If you accept a challenge, you must add that item to your school uniform. We can't allow any exceptions or renegotiations after you accept the challenge." Hinari turned serious for a minute.

"Now, you might be asking yourself, 'Hinari-chan, is this challenge even possible while wearing ballet boots?' And to answer that question, I have my special guest, Ko-chan~ Ko-chan, would you like to take a walk?" Hinari led me to the start of the beam.

I nodded, then hopped up on the beam. I wasn't wearing ballet boots, but the heels that Naruyo made me had the same shape, so it was not a problem. I easily walked down the beam and hopped off nonchalantly at the end.

"As easy as that! She even looked so cute while doing it! Now, do we have our first guest?" She looked around, and finally someone came forward.

"I'll try it. Um.. just the normal challenge though..." The girl seemed a little timid, but she still gave her best effort. She climbed up onto the beam and made it about half way before losing her balance and falling.

"Oooh, so close! Would someone else like to try?" Hinari tried to get more people to try.

"This is pathetically easy, why is this the star attraction here?" A callous girl spoke up from the crowd.

"Well, it looks like we have a skeptic here, would you like to give it a try?" Hinari smiled, knowing the first fish was on the hook.

"Of course, that's why I came here, after all." The girl quickly jumped onto the balance beam and walked down to the end with little trouble.

"Very impressive, miss. Here is your first pin." She gave a pin showing a pair of ballet boots to the girl, but she immediately threw it on the ground and stomped on it.

"Cut the crap, this whole thing is a joke, you saw how easy I cleared the mission, didn't you? She's not as impressive as you guys think! Where's this secret level, I want to try it!" The girl seemed increasingly agitated as she spoke

"Ah, our first secret level challenger has arrived! Give her a round of applause, ladies, as we get her ready for her challenge~" Hinari motioned a few assistants over to help the girl get locked into a pair of thigh high ballet boots.

"Wow.. those look tall" "I'm a little scared myself" "I think they're cute" The crowd chattered as they waited.

After a few minutes, the girl got to her feet, walking over to the end of the beam much less steadily than before.

"How is it? Are you still confident?" Hinari asked the girl warmly.

"Of course. This is all a fraud. I'll prove it right now." She climbed up onto the beam, took a few shaky steps, then fell onto the mats below. "Gah.. that... Let me try it again."

"Oh, dear. It seems you were unable to complete your challenge. As you can see, there are many people standing around to try, so we don't have time for repeat attempts, but I bid you good luck on the next challenge!"
