"Excuse me..?" Mike glanced weirdly at the silent Lucas. When he saw Lucas opening his eyes and glancing at him, he spoke: "We can look for it tomorrow."

Lucas didn't say anything and just nodded. After driving so many hours, he wouldn't just go and fight an unknown creature. He must be fully rested.

The next day, Lucas had a quick breakfast and headed straight for the forest.

Arriving, Lucas got out of the car and looked at the forest in front of him. As soon as he stepped down, he felt a weird smell in the air.

He looked down at the ground and realized that it was coming from it. He frowned as the smell was unusual, mostly earthly, and that blocked him from accurately identifying the smell.

He glanced at the visibly tense Jordan and Mike and spoke: "Follow me!" If he had said something like "let's split up," he was not sure if these two would survive.

He grabbed his spear from the car, which earned him sneak glances from both of them. Lucas ignored their curiosity and threw the rest of the backpacks into their hands.

He felt that he was going into a dungeon, and having his soon-to-die men carry his equipment.

Then they all started walking towards the forest.

After half an hour, they arrived at the place that they were talking about. Lucas looked at the big lake in front of him, then at the small hills beside it.

When they made their way in front of a cave entrance, they finally stopped. He glanced inside, even though it was faint, he could smell the familiar scent from earlier.

"You two stay here. When I finish, I will call you." He gestured towards the walkie-talkie.

Taking them with him would hold him down, and he didn't really want to expose his abilities in front of them.

The two nodded. They discussed this last night. Even though they felt that he was too reckless, they didn't say anything since he was their boss.

He glanced at them one more time, and he headed straight down the cave.

The darkness didn't stop him, and he kept walking at a normal pace. His eyes were constantly switching directions, and his senses were fully focused on his surroundings.

This kind of terrain is perfect for the creature he was hunting. He would, in turn, be at a disadvantage. But he was not sure he could bait it outside, and his most hopeful thought was that he had a chance to save the children.

By now, Lucas felt that he had walked about 300 meters. The more he walked, the smaller the cave kept getting. And he could feel that he was slowly moving downward.

This cave reminded him of a Souls game he played in his previous life.

After he walked a few more meters, he came across multiple paths. He looked around, then decided to go left.

The sound of his steps was nonexistent. He made his presence as low as his ability allowed it.

"Crack!"

His eyes jolted at the sound, but he didn't hurry towards it. He slowly walked over, and the space became much larger.

He crouched and hid behind a stone, looking over in the middle of the space. He saw the back of a creature crunching over and eating.

It had weird armor-like skin, grey in color with spiral patterns over it. He also realized that even though he could see it, his nose couldn't pick up its smell.

This immediately made him think of his own ability to mask his presence.

When he focused on the ground in front of the creature, his face immediately became unbearable.

His worst fear came true. Lucas saw just a skeleton hand with only a few pieces of flesh on it. The bone was obviously that of a small child.

He couldn't imagine what the child went through. His eyes closed for a moment as his hand tightened hard around the spear.

The moment his eye opened, they flashed fiercely with a golden and silver glimmer in them.

Just that moment, the creature stopped eating. As if feeling a threat, the creature looked in his direction.

Lucas' eyes shrank when he saw the creature's full body. Its eyes glowed a dull, swirling metallic iron-grey color, and the irises were constantly spiraling inward.

He was now certain of what kind of shapeshifter it was, and that made him even more shocked because he thought they were extinct.
