Chapter 30 Full Moon Part 2
Lucas was on high alert, as he constantly looked around, searching for the enemy.
His body tensed, Lucas could faintly pick up a scent lingering in the air, a smell of ash and death.
This made Lucas even more concerned, it was a different kind of smell, he was certain now, the enemy was not a werewolf.
He doesn't know if he should be relieved, or be more nervous about this fact.
"Whoosh."
Barely having time to think further, a piercing sound came from behind, Lucas swiftly dodged, a spear passed right by his head, just an inch further and he would have been dead.
Lucas raised the assault rifle in that direction, just when he turned his body, Lucas' instincts were screaming danger.
Wanting to move away, this time Lucas was not lucky, something sharp passed right through his vest, tearing it apart like butter.
"Hiss." Lucas felt a sharp pain running through his back, his muscles tightened from this searing pain.
His mind went blank for a second, then without giving him a chance, once again he felt his instincts flaring up.
Lucas gritted his teeth, and with all the force he could muster, he dodged to the left.
He raised the assault rifle and fired without hesitation.
"Bang." "Bang." "Bang."
Bullets poured in that direction, but Lucas' eyes widened when he took a closer look, a wall of sand and dust blocked all of his bullets.
He only saw a blurry figure behind the wall, before vanishing as if it wasn't there to begin with.
Lucas felt his heart pounding uncontrollably, the pain didn't alleviate, it became worse.
Blood seeped from his back, as it fell to the ground.
The rifle that was on his back was now thrown a few meters away, Lucas then lunged forward as if to reach and take it back.
The moment Lucas did that, once again he felt danger from behind.
This time he was ready, the moment he lunged forward, his hand already reached for his gun.
He used his body to block the sight of it, and the assault rifle in his hand as a distraction.
Lucas then twisted his body, and fired repeatedly.
Then he heard a blood-curdling wail that ripped through the silent forest, it let out a shout that sounded exactly like a human voice, but distorted as if played through a broken speaker.
Lucas groaned from the sound of it, now having a chance he finally saw what it was.
The face was covered in lines of dirt, its body full of animal furs, and the uncovered skin was completely covered in ash and cracks.
"How could this thing be here?"
Lucas said in shock, a being that shouldn't remotely be here, was standing right in front of him.
Lucas' eyes then changed, ferocity filled his mind.
"It doesn't matter anymore, I just need to kill it."
Not wanting to waste the perfect opportunity, Lucas continued firing, the creature barely conjured a wall of sand, managing to defend itself.
Then it raised its hand towards Lucas as if grabbing him, Lucas frowned not knowing what it was doing.
Suddenly, he felt a vibration on the ground, his eyes widened thinking of something, and without hesitation he jumped further to the left.
In the air Lucas looked down, the place where he was just standing now became quicksand, if Lucas hesitated one more second he could've been trapped.
Once Lucas hit the ground, he immediately fired at the creature.
The creature succeeded in blocking and dodging most of the bullets, but just one managed to hit its leg.
Once again Lucas heard its terrorizing scream, but he was not just focused on that, he noticed the wall's intensity briefly lowered.
A broken smile appeared on his face, as he looked at his gun.
"It seems to be working."
He was glad he made sure to fill the bullets with mountain ash.
His smile quickly faded away, the pain he felt in his back even now didn't diminish.
Lucas then thought of a myth written in his grandfather's diary.
"The spear!" His face became uglier, realizing that he was far from victorious, if the wound doesn't heal, he will bleed to death.
Lucas' gaze hardened, he didn't have much time to waste.
Then he put the gun back in the holster.
Raising the assault rifle, he fired all the remaining ammunition at it, but before damage could be done the creature disappeared again.
Click. Click.
He looked at the rifle in his hand, and without hesitation he threw it away.
Claws started emerging from his hands, a deep roar emerged from his mouth.
It shook the entire forest, even the creature hiding in the dark stiffened for a moment, before gaining composure and attacking again.
