Eternal Night: Building an Empire from Scratch

Chapter 54: Agricultural House

He then picked up the parchment on the side and opened it, looking at it one last time.

Every floor was divided into neat rectangular plots that could later be converted into Agricultural Land.

"...."

Edgar looked at it for a long moment. ’If this works... the amount of food I can produce will be enough to feed a village.’

The thing he had created wasn’t just a building, it was a vertical farm.

A way to multiply farmland without endlessly expanding the Fortress.

After calming his nerves, Edgar slowly willed his system to register the blueprint.

At first, the system panel remained motionless like every other registration.

Only after a few minutes did a change appear in it, and a new blueprint was added.

With an excitement that couldn’t be hidden, Edgar looked at the information of the infrastructure.

---

⟨Builder Blueprint: Agricultural House⟩

⟨Level: 3⟩

⟨Completion Rate: 42%⟩

⟨Description: A multi-story farming structure designed to maximize crop production within a limited area.⟩

⟨Special Effect: Efficient Cultivation I⟩

⟨Agricultural Land constructed inside this building requires 20% less time to harvest while maintaining the same quality.⟩

⟨Special Effect: Helping Different Plants I⟩

⟨Growing multiple crops at the same time will complement each other.⟩

⟨Nightmare Stones Required: 100⟩

---

Edgar’s eyes widened as he looked at the two different Special Effects his blueprint had created.

’This is really good....’

Edgar thought to himself, rubbing the back of his neck.

The level that he reached with just his memories and some creativity was far more than he expected.

Having an idea of what he needed to do from his time on Earth really made him leagues ahead of the builders of this world.

After taking in a deep breath, Edgar flared his nose at the number of stones the construction needed.

’Well, it’s a Level 3 Building so, this much is acceptable.’

Without wasting any more time, Edgar decided on an area of 100 square metres and said softly,

"Construct."

One hundred White Nightmare Stones floated into the air.

The familiar milky-white liquid burst out of them before rushing toward the empty patch of land Edgar had chosen.

Rumble...

The earth trembled, and the ground began to soften up for the next process.

Unlike the construction of ordinary buildings, this one spread across the ground first.

A massive rectangular foundation slowly emerged. Stone pillars rose one after another, each thicker than a grown man’s waist.

Long stone beams stretched between them, locking together with perfect precision.

The first floor quickly took shape.

Without stopping, the milky-white liquid climbed upward.

A second floor formed, and quickly, a third.

Wide ramps connected every level, allowing carts to travel freely from the ground to the very top.

There were almost no walls. Only sturdy pillars supported the enormous structure, allowing fresh air to circulate through every floor.

At the very top, a large stone reservoir slowly materialized. Channels spread from it across every level like veins.

"..."

Edgar quietly watched the entire construction.

Even though he had witnessed dozens of buildings being created by now, the sight still fascinated him.

After nearly fifteen minutes, the white liquid finally disappeared.

Before everyone stood a three-story stone building unlike anything this world had ever seen.

Andrew slowly walked inside. His footsteps echoed throughout the empty structure.

"...Young Master." He looked around in confusion. "What is this now?"

Edgar smiled. "A farm."

"...Huh?"

Edgar explained. "This is a farm that we are going to operate."

Andrew scratched his head. "But... isn’t it just a building with no walls?"

"It is."

Edgar walked onto the first floor and placed his hand against the stone beneath his feet.

"A building that is much better than an Agricultural Land."

The moment he finished speaking, a familiar system panel appeared before his eyes.

---

⟨Agricultural Land Detected.⟩

⟨Construct Agricultural Land inside the Agricultural House?⟩

⟨Current Area: 100m²⟩

⟨Error: No soil to create the land.⟩

---

Edgar’s smile dimmed down a little as he looked at the message.

Constructing the building and constructing the farmland were treated as two completely different blueprints.

Which meant that every floor could become its own Agricultural Land.

’Guess we have to work our way out...’

Edgar let out a deep sigh and looked at Andrew. "We need to bring the soil and fill each floor."

The young boy looked confused but still nodded his head.

"Alright!"

Edgar also put aside his leather coat and rolled up his sleeves.

’I really need more people to work under me...’

Grumbling inwardly, he began to help Andrew collect the soil.

---

It took the both of them a total of six hours to fill all three floors of the building with soil from the outside.

The horses and carriage did help them a lot, but it was rather tedious work nonetheless.

Edgar rubbed his back and looked at the building and couldn’t help but smile in satisfaction.

’This is really cool.’

Once again, the system screen appeared before him. This time, Edgar only focused on the price.

’34 Nightmare Stones for three hundred square metres...’

Edgar immediately willed for the creation of the Agricultural Land.

All three floors that were filled with soil quickly got mixed with the white liquid.

They slowly began to change colour and finally settled into a creamish hue.

Edgar couldn’t help but smile as he walked up the ramp.

He was feeling rather proud for creating an entire farming ecosystem contained within a single building.

Edgar couldn’t suppress the smile on his face.

"This... might be one of the best blueprints I’ve ever created."

Once he made sure everything was working and noticed no flaws, Edgar walked down the ramp.

His mind was still wondering what he should do next when he saw old man Oswald rushing towards him.

"Young master!" he shouted. "T-there is something extraordinary!?"

His voice was filled with excitement and disbelief.

"What?" Edgar frowned, unable to understand.

"The ⟨Tower of Souls⟩!" the old man cried. "It created something extraordinary!!"

Edgar’s tiredness vanished almost instantly.

"The Tower?"

Without another word, he hurried toward the northern side of the Fortress.
