Chapter 125: Serpent prince game
The palace had never felt so cold.
Despite the blazing sun outside, a shiver wrapped itself around everyone inside the throne room. Cain stood at the center, fingers clenched tightly around the pommel of his sword. His expression was unreadable, though the twitch in his jaw betrayed the fury simmering just beneath his skin.
Selene stood at his side, her hand resting gently on his shoulder. She was a vision of calm, though her eyes—sharp, calculating—never stopped moving, scanning every window, every shadow, every flicker of movement.
The twins, Azrael Jr. and Caelan, stood flanking the doors like twin guardians, their youthful faces hard with grim determination. Rina sat on the stairs, chewing on candied ginger and swinging her legs like she hadn't nearly made a war criminal cry the day before.
"You think the Serpent's bluffing?" Eren asked from his spot near the fire.
"No," Cain said simply. "He dug up our mother."
"Correction," Rina chirped, "He stole ghost grandma. That's super disrespectful. I give it a seven out of ten on the Villain Scale."
Leo raised an eyebrow. "Only a seven?"
Rina popped another candy in her mouth. "He hasn't monologued in Latin yet. That's how you know it's serious."
The doors creaked open.
A soldier stumbled in, blood trailing down his forehead. "Your Majesties—he's here. The Serpent Prince. He's in the Great Hall."
