Chapter 71: bloodline awakening
The wind howled like an omen as they left the safehouse. Cain led the way, his coat snapping behind him, flanked by Leo and Eren. Selene followed close, her hands wrapped tightly around the hilt of her blade. Aelira walked behind them, silent and watchful. The night was heavy with anticipation; even the stars seemed to hold their breath.
They were headed toward the ruins of Nareth Hollow—an ancient place once sealed away from mortal eyes. That was where Aelira believed the next sibling would awaken. One of the hidden children of their father.
"Are we ready for this?" Leo asked as they walked beneath gnarled branches. His voice was quiet, a rare tremor laced in his tone.
"No," Cain answered honestly. "But we'll go anyway."
Eren chuckled dryly. "Sounds about right."
They reached the gates of the Hollow by dawn. Time felt distorted there. Trees twisted unnaturally, and the air was laced with old power. As they stepped into the ruins, the wind ceased. It was as if the world paused.
Selene's hand brushed against Cain's. He didn't flinch. He simply laced their fingers together for a moment—silent, but reassuring.
"Something's watching," Eren murmured.
"I feel it too," Selene said. Her eyes glowed faintly—her power responding to the call of darkness.
