Chapter 69: training grounds
The sun had barely risen when Cain shook Selene gently awake. Her lashes fluttered, adjusting to the early light filtering through the curtains.
"Already?" she murmured, voice raspy with sleep.
"Time to start," he said with a small smile, brushing a strand of hair from her cheek. "You said you wanted to be ready."
Selene sat up, groaning as she stretched. "I didn't think you meant sunrise training sessions like we're in some kind of supernatural boot camp."
He grinned. "Welcome to the family."
In the clearing behind Aelira's safehouse, the boys had cleared space, marking off an area with stones and branches. Leo was already there, shirt off, warming up with slow punches that caused the air around his fists to shimmer faintly. Eren had conjured tiny flames, juggling them lazily like fireballs of boredom.
"Selene," Leo greeted with a nod. "You're late."
"She needed beauty sleep," Cain said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Not all of us roll out of bed looking like cursed royalty."
Eren smirked. "We ready for a beatdown or what?"
