SSS-Rank Bloodline: Wolf Evolution

Chapter 65: The Horned Hyena

The hyena possessed a massive body and very thick black skin striped with white. On its head were two long spiral horns, and strangest of all, it possessed three long, thin, pointed tails.

Despite seeing the danger heading toward him, Arthur did not flee or retreat, but remained standing in his place, feigning ignorance, while in truth he was analyzing the hyena, trying to predict its attack pattern.

The calm lasted about thirty seconds, then suddenly the hyena pounced on him, he had been prepared for this, and the moment it reached him, he jumped sideways, avoiding it with agility.

But the matter did not end there, for before his feet touched the ground, the hyena’s pointed tails extended at an unreasonable speed, heading directly toward his chest.

A slight frown appeared on Arthur’s face, for he had no escape from this surprise attack, yet he did not panic. He quickly adjusted his position, and let the tails stab him in his shoulder. They embedded themselves very deeply, to the point of piercing his bones.

He gritted his fangs, and in the next moment, he activated the "Regeneration" skill, and tightened his muscles powerfully until the three tails were trapped inside his body.

Without giving the hyena any chance to pull them out by force, he swung his sharp dagger-like claws and severed them. Blood sprayed everywhere.

The hyena’s eyes widened from the intensity of the shock and pain, and before it understood what was happening, it saw the gray wolf pouncing on it suddenly. Automatically, it took a defensive stance. It lowered its head slightly, displaying its twisted horns, and charged toward him like a bull.

Arthur’s body tensed. For a moment, he thought about retreating, but he changed his mind and pressed on with his attack. The moment he came within a few centimeters of the hyena’s horns, he leaped high over it.

He landed on its back, and drove his claws into its tough skin, gripped it well, then bit it from the back of its neck, and began tearing its flesh savagely.

The hyena screamed in pain, and began to jump and shake its head violently in an attempt to throw him off, and because of the length of its horns and the violence of its movements, it managed to scratch him superficially on his forehead.

The moment the hyena felt him within the range of its horns, it stopped jumping randomly, and given that it possessed a fair amount of intelligence, it understood what it had to do, a wicked gleam appeared in its eyes, then it pushed its head forcefully backward.

’Damn.’ Arthur felt an imminent danger, and without any hesitation, he leaped off its back, landed in a defensive stance, with a wicked smile on his face. He had torn an important artery in its neck, and had also injured its spine and nerves.

Because of the effects of the full moon frenzy, he could not restrain himself, he opened his blood-stained mouth and mocked: "So what are you going to do now, mighty one? It seems you don’t have the Regeneration skill."

The hyena’s neck bled profusely, and little by little the strength left its body, it felt intense fear, and learned the hard way, that the prey it had chosen this time was the predator.

It took a defensive stance as well, growled savagely, and swung its front claws as a threat. Slowly, it retreated backward, trying to put a safe distance between them, but Arthur did not allow it to do so, for he continued approaching it.

The hyena gritted its fangs, and understood that what it was doing was meaningless, and without further hesitation, it turned around and fled at its maximum speed.

Arthur was not going to let this precious catch simply escape, especially after bearing all this trouble, so he charged after it.

Both monsters ran through the forest, one after the other, only a few meters separating them.

At first Arthur thought he would quickly close the gap and catch it, but he was wrong, unexpectedly the hyena was slightly faster than him.

Gradually, it widened the gap between them and moved away from him. Arthur was greatly irritated and refused to accept it, for it had touched his pride as a hunter who rarely fails.

’This wretch, does it think it will escape from me after trying to kill me? It can keep dreaming. All I need to do is stay behind it, I do not think it will last long in any case.’ He thought angrily.

This time his expectation was correct, for after they had run continuously for more than thirty miles, the hyena showed signs of slowing down. It had lost a great deal of blood.

Arthur laughed wickedly, but the smile on his face did not last long, for he felt the silk threads inside his body showing a faint activity, and this meant he had gotten close to the boundaries of the area he could move within. No more than about ten miles separated him from it.

He gritted his fangs, and forced himself to accelerate more, and within a few seconds he drew close to the exhausted hyena, and without bothering himself to pounce on it, he swung his claws and tore the tendons of its hind leg.

The hyena fell to the ground, rolled several times and smashed several piles of mushrooms, and when it stopped and tried to rise, it found Arthur standing beside it. Without any mercy, he bit it from the throat, and finished it off.

When everything was over, he took a deep breath, and as was his habit, dragged the hyena by its leg and headed toward the spider woman’s nest, but again, the moment he walked a few steps he stopped, not because of the presence of any danger, but because the mushroom ball inside him, which had remained stable for a long time, began to tremble.

"What is happening? Why has the mushroom ball stirred like this so suddenly?"

Arthur felt panic, for he had not forgotten the torment he had gone through when the mushroom grew in his body previously, and that alone was enough to make him think about the matter more than once before approaching any kind of mushroom.

Yet, he felt a little curiosity, for the mushroom ball must have moved for some reason, and it was clear that this reason was external, for nothing had changed in his body.

’Something in this area is stimulating the mushroom inside me? What could it possibly be?’ More questions arose in his mind.

He examined his surroundings carefully, and after a short moment of hesitation, he left the hyena aside, and walked in the direction the mushroom spores were being drawn toward. When he had covered a distance of 300 meters, he found a small cave, hidden by piles of mushrooms, and twisted plants.

Again, he examined his surroundings carefully, looked at the entrance, and thought about the matter at length, in the end he made his decision, swallowed nervously, then entered.
