SSS-Rank Bloodline: Wolf Evolution

Chapter 63: A Loyal Servant

Arthur did not like the words that came out of his mouth, but there was nothing he could do about it, he had declared his loyalty to her, and he had to abide by the manners that accompanied that, for words without actions held no value.

"Serve me?" The spider woman raised one of her eyebrows in wonder, she did not fully grasp the nature of his actions and words, and yet, that strange feeling of amusement came over her again.

A very serious expression appeared on his face, and he said without any sign of embarrassment: "Yes, my lady, you have saved my life several times until now, and serving you is the least I can do to repay the favor. Tell me what you desire, and I will do everything in my power to fulfill it."

’What I desire? Hah?’ For some reason, the first thing that came to her mind was him. She had strongly wanted to know his truth and his secrets, but she had not dared to ask. She knew he would not answer.

Her lips curled into a faint, breathtaking smile, then she replied sarcastically: "Repay the favor? Enough joking, wolf, at your current rank you are completely useless. Do not forget, I only assigned you one task, which is to hunt for me, and even that you failed at."

Little by little her voice grew colder, and in the end she said while shaking her head, showing her disappointment: "How do you expect to fulfill my wishes? When you are not capable of doing the simplest of things."

Even though Arthur did not take her words seriously, he had to maintain the role of the loyal servant. He bowed his head in shame, pressed his lips together, and replied with deep regret: "Forgive my helplessness, my lady, for as you can see I am just a weak being. But rest assured, I meant every word I said. Command me, and as long as I have the ability, I will do it without hesitation."

’This sly, silver-tongued wolf, can he not give a normal answer even once?’ Again the spider woman found herself at a loss for words. Her mental energy was severely exhausted, and arguing with him would cause her nothing but a headache.

She was silent for a brief moment, then changed the subject: "Anyway, regarding the mushroom corruption you were afflicted with, it was difficult for me to eliminate it entirely, so I sealed the few remaining spores near your abdomen. You do not mind that, correct?"

Despite her asking him, it was clearly apparent on her face that she did not care about his opinion in the slightest, she had acted with great generosity and helped him, and if he presented any complaint about her method, well, that was an insolence deserving of punishment.

"Really? I do not feel anything." Arthur was puzzled, and without waiting for her reply, he examined his body carefully, at first he found nothing, which increased his confusion, but suddenly, he felt the presence of a small intensely black ball in the midst of his entrails. It pulsed every now and then like an evil monster lying dormant.

He stole a glance at the spider woman, and found her in turn watching him with a kind of satisfaction, he did not need to think about the matter, for automatically he understood the reason, she had been concealing the presence of the mushroom spore ball with her silk threads, so he had not noticed it.

’The mushroom ball is very stable, good, it seems it will not pose any danger to my life, but, I must not lower my guard. From now on I have to avoid getting injured around my abdomen.’ He sighed with relief.

He redirected his focus to the spider woman, and said: "Regarding your question, my lady, you know I cannot complain, you have done a great deal for me, and I truly appreciate that."

A small smile appeared on his face, it was genuine and entirely free of his usual pretense, and he added sarcastically: "I will not lie, in the beginning when you captured me I hated you intensely, but now, well, I have changed my mind, you are not as bad as I thought. Do not misunderstand, my loyalty is entirely yours, I am only clarifying my position."

’It is useless, he does not want to stop this insolence of his.’ The spider woman sighed in resignation, unable to determine exactly what she felt.

She was not angry, nor displeased, and at the same time she was not happy, nor satisfied, the only thing she was certain of, was that for a strange and incomprehensible reason, a faint feeling of relief came over her.

She raised her hand, and rubbed her temple to ease the headache he had caused her, and after a little thought she rebuked him: "Enough useless chatter. If you truly want to show your loyalty, go and hunt for me."

Without giving him the chance to answer, she moved her index finger in a circular motion, and in that moment, a silk thread extended from the wall behind him, stuck to his back, and pulled him at an astonishing speed out of the nest.

"’Do not return, unless you bring a lot of prey with you.’" Her voice thundered inside his head.

"Alright." Arthur answered. With a worried expression, he examined the mushroom-filled forest around him, took a deep breath, and with obvious hesitation headed toward the lake. Because of her treatment of him his physical condition was very good, but his mental state was unfortunately not.

The experience he had gone through because of the rotting bear was very traumatic, and had it not been for his iron will he would not have been able to get through it easily, at the very least he would have needed several days before he dared to venture into the forest again.

Inside the nest, the spider woman watched him until he had gone far, and despite her extreme exhaustion, she did not return to her cocoon, for there was one last matter she had to deal with.

She directed her full focus toward the rotting bear imprisoned in the silk cocoon, a dense killing intent emanated from her, and she murmured coldly: "A sinister creature like you must not be left alive."

Without any hesitation, she wielded all the remaining power she had, and unleashed her lethal skills. At that moment, hundreds of white stakes covered in venom appeared around the bear’s cocoon. They shot forward, and all plunged into its body at once.

She did not stop there, for the bear was still alive. She wrapped more silk threads around the cocoon, and compressed it powerfully, causing its body to be completely crushed, transforming into a ball of flesh.

She sealed it tightly in silk threads, then threw it far away.

She exhaled a breath of relief, and returned to her cocoon to rest. Time passed quickly, and by sunset Arthur returned with a fat buffalo, she was starving, so she took it from him, and sent him to bring more without caring about the darkness of the night.

Complying, Arthur carried out her orders, but he found no good prey, and in the end returned late, empty-handed. He headed directly to sleep, and the following morning he did the same thing, he went hunting, and returned to sleep, and so the days passed, then the weeks, in the same manner.
