Chapter 69: One Last Goodbye
The air stopped the moment Loraine’s words left her lips, Sarah’s eyes widening in shock, with Christine having the same dazed expression. Loraine wanted them to accompany her? It was a bit of a surprise, Loraine chuckling at their dazed expression.
’Their reactions are so cute~’ Loraine thought to herself, an endearing smile on her face.
"Wait really!?" Sarah was the first to say, shock evident in her tone. She shook her head, this was all too sudden, and she wasn’t sure how to take this. "We’re really allowed to come with you?"
Loraine simply nodded, a small innocent smile on her face. "Yes, I would really love it if you both were to accompany me. I would feel a lot more safer, and I just can’t stand the thought of being without you guys."
Sarah giggled, a small smile blooming on her face. "So you’re really leaving the mansion, huh? Alright then, I’ll accompany you." Sarah said, her voice filled with determination.
"We’ve been living here for almost our entire lives, so a nice change of pace is quite needed." Sarah said, Loraine nodding as she was genuinely relieved to hear that.
"And what about you Christine? Are you going to come with us as well?" Loraine asked, her eyes widening in surprise as the brown haired woman shook her head, her arms up in a shrug.
’Wait what?’ Loraine thought to herself, raising a brow in confusion.
"I really appreciate the offer, Loraine," Christine said, looking at the white haired maiden. "You’ve really helped me improve my skills over these past few weeks, and I’m really grateful for the help you’ve given me."
"You helped me too y’know! How else was I gonna learn [Ignition]? Don’t try to get all sappy, it was a mutual agreement!" Loraine said with a pout on her face, crossing her arms in defiance. "Well...." She awkwardly scratched her cheek. "I guess we didn’t really discuss the terms and such, but it at least felt that way to me."
Christine merely smiled at Loraine’s playful attitude, her eyes shining with admiration for the woman in front of her. "Of course, and I’m happy to have helped." She said, her expression turning more somber and melancholy as she glanced over at the mansion.
"I would love to along with you Loraine, but...If I were to leave, who would take care of the other chefs and be there to lead them, now that you’re no longer going to be here?" Christine said, Loraine blinking in surprise, a slight tug pulling at the strings of her heart at the mention of the other chefs.
’Shit...she’s right, I didn’t think about them. If I were to leave, then they’d have no one to lead them or be in charge of them, and Christine’s the most experienced one here besides myself, her absence would definitely cause some issues in the culinary department of things.’
Loraine thought to herself, slumping over with a sigh as she hated how it had to come to this.
"You’re right, I should’ve taken that into consideration." Loraine spoke up, Christine nodding at her words. A small smile bloomed at the corners of her lips, "Alright, I’ll leave those cooks in charge to you Christine, you’ve definitely came a long way, and I’m proud to have had you as my student."
Christine’s eyes widened in surprise at Loraine’s words, a feeling of accomplishment and joy washing over her at Loraine’s proud words, a small blush creeping up her cheeks as she smiled to herself, a bit embarrassed.
"Thank you," Christine said in a soft tone, her voice as quiet as a whisper. Her eyes hardened in determination as she looked up at Loraine, an excited grin forming on her lips. "Don’t worry about these cooks, they’re in safe hands!" She said with conviction in her tone, Lorraine flashing an approving grin of her own at Christine’s confidence.
"Atta girl~!" Loraine said, genuinely proud of the woman in front of her, as she turned her attention to Sarah. "Well then, we should leave and get ready to pack our belongings, we have to be ready to leave by tomorrow morning."
"But before that...." Loraine muttered to herself, suddenly standing up from her chair as she approached Christine, the brown haired maiden looking up in surprise.
Loraine wrapped her arms around Christine, pulling her into a warm hug. "I’m really going to miss you, stay safe friend~" Loraine said in an affectionate tone, the warm gesture stunning Christine for a moment before she wrapped her arms around Loraine as well, a happy smile forming on her lips.
"I’ll miss you too Loraine, take care of each other, alright?" Christine said to Loraine, the two of them breaking the hug shortly after with happy smiles.
Sarah blinked at the sight, a tinge of jealousy in her stare as she watched the two of them embrace, a small pout forming on her lips. A nervous sweat broke on Loraine’s face as she saw the tiny pout on Sarah’s lips, she didn’t think her best friend was the type to get jealous easily.
A teasing grin formed on Loraine’s lips at the thought of it.
"You’re not jealous are you~?"
Loraine said with a teasing lilt, Sarah’s eyes widening in shock at Loraine’s words for a moment, a small embarrassed flush forming on her face as she gave a little huff and stood up from her chair, giving Loraine a small glare from the corner of her eye that made the white haired maiden gulp in fear as she wrapped her arms around Christine as well.
"Alright then, we’re off now, take care."
The two of them waved Christine off as they walked back to the mansion together.
Christine watched them walk towards the mansion, a bit of a sad expression forming on her face as she really grew to like these two in the short time frame they’ve known each other.
’I’m really going to miss you two,’ Christine said to herself inwardly, leaning back in her chair with a sigh as she gazed up at the sky.
Loraine and Sarah made their way back into the mansion, engaging in light conversation and other things.
"So where are we going to be headed to?" Sarah asked, curious.
"Oh, we’re going to be headed to Lazarus, it’s gonna be a long journey and should take us a minimum of two weeks to reach, so we’re gonna be having a lot of stops on the way." Loraine said, her fists pumped as she started to feel excited about finally leaving the mansion for real this time.
"Oh man I can’t wait! This is far more exciting than when I left the mansion for the first time!"
Sarah found Loraine’s excitement amusing, thinking to herself how both of them barely left the mansion at all, and how during these two weeks they’d get to explore the world a little.
It was something she herself was looking forward too, but at the same time, she couldn’t help but be a bit scared as well.
"It’s dangerous out there though, and have you saved up enough money for transport? Let alone protection? We could be in danger at any given time, so I can’t help but be a bit worried about that." Sarah spoke up, voicing her concerns.
"You don’t have to worry about that, I have more than enough money.....maybe a little too much." Loraine said, Sarah only giving her a weird look in response to what she meant by that.
"Anyway, protection won’t be much of a problem either," Loraine turned to look at her with a confident grin, flexing her arm in a strong gesture with a playful giggle.
"After all, you have me protecting you~ I won’t let anyone in this world hurt you!"
Sarah’s cheeks flushed, her heart skipping a bit for a moment before giving Loraine a small pout. "I appreciate the sentiment...but I don’t think you understand how dangerous the outside world can be, Loraine."
Sarah said, Loraine blinking at her statement before bursting out laughing, Sarah raising a brow in confusion.
’Oh, if only you knew Sarah. I’m more experienced with the outside world already, I know what to expect out there.’ Loraine said, placing her hand on Sarah’s blonde hair, gently patting her best friend much to her embarrassment.
The two of them soon split and left to go ahead and pack their bags, Loraine becoming a bit annoyed as she would have to place her essentials in suitcases and such, and not directly use her [Ring Of Storage], as that would draw attention to it.
The both of them proceeded to spent the last day together with Christine afterward, giving their brown haired friend some love before turning in for the night.
The next morning arrived rather quickly, and Loraine was up and ready to go, walking over to Sarah’s room first thing in the morning to give the blonde haired maiden for their departure.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Loraine gently knocked on Sarah’s door, her heart racing with excitement as today was finally the day for their departure, a grin on her face as she waited outside her door.
A few moments passed, before Loraine heard the sounds of grumbling and movement from inside the room, her senses sharpening to a great degree thanks to her [Maiden’s Intuition] Skill, the door opening as a disheveled and tired Sarah glanced up to meet her crimson gaze.
’Guess she didn’t get enough sleep?’ Loraine thought to herself, raising a brow before chuckling. ’But she does look really cute like this, I have to admit. I don’t see her so messy very often.’
"You’re rather early," Sarah said, breaking Loraine out of her thoughts. "I didn’t think we’d be leaving so soon."
Loraine sighed, placing her hands on her hips. "Yeah I know, but I have a good reason for this." Lorraine said before continuing. "I want us to be able to leave before Margret notices, as I don’t really want to deal with her at all."
Sarah thought about it for a moment, but ultimately accepted the fact that she didn’t want to deal with Margret either, her mood instantly lighting up as she realized that they wouldn’t have to deal with her anymore.
"But before that, I want to go and say goodbye to a special someone first, you think you can wait for me here?"
"Sure, just don’t take too long."
"Got it, thanks!"
Loraine said, smiling as she quickly turned around to make her way to the upper floor, making her way towards the young mistress’s room.
