THE SYSTEM IS NOT MINE

Chapter 86: The Seekers of the Green Liquid

Yan stood in front of Chu Feng, who was sitting behind a table piled high with a mountain of books.

"So you finally made your decision to work for me?" Chu Feng asked while holding a book in his hand.

"Yes, " Yan replied.

"You experienced the recent battle, didn't you?”

Chu Feng lowered the book in his hand and watched Yan.

"It's going to be dangerous; still want to work for me?"

"Yes, " Yan nodded.

"Yesterday, I received information that someone is deliberately distributing green liquid bottles along with paper carrying my name all over the kingdom."

"As a result, we're receiving several uninvited visitors. So far, the ones who came were weak. It won't be long before stronger ones arrive.”

"So, it's not safe here."

"Still want to work for me?"

Chu Feng observed Yan.

Yan stood firm, indicating his firm decision.

"Okay, then, I take that as yes."

"Did you by chance receive that green liquid bottle as well?"

"Yes, " Yan replied.

"And how come you came to know that a general is behind it?"

Yan took a deep breath and said, "I was investigating the berserkers, which led me to the green liquid.”

"As expected."

"So you know the green liquid creates berserkers. What else do you know about it? " Chu Feng asked.

"Only that much," Yan replied.

"But you still haven't answered how you came to know about the general's involvement," Chu Feng asked.

Yan stood there, trying to come up with an answer but it did not escape Chu Feng's gaze.

"Well, if you don't want to say, that's fine as well." Chu Feng said before Yan could say anything.

"The main appeal of the green liquid is that it can improve the quality of a cultivator's spiritual lines," Chu Feng declared.

Yan did not say anything, but he recalled all his experiences with the green liquid, the sect, Elder Chao's experiments, his increased speed of absorption of qi, and concluded that's how it is.

“You don't seem surprised.” Chu Feng's question immediately pulled Yan from his thoughts.

"Well, it does not matter as long as you did not come here to get it, and just in case you have come for it, you already know what happens ", Chu Feng said.

Yan took another breath, recalling the underground prison.

Just then, the manor shook.

BOOM!

"Speaking of the devil, trouble has arrived."

"Let's greet our guests," Chu Feng said, placed the book down and walked towards the door and exited the library room.

Yan followed behind.

When they stepped outside of the manor, they found the courtyard in ruins and the gate broken.

Their eyes fell on Mutai, who was standing at the centre as he placed the giant axe on his shoulder, and he focused on the man in the sky.

"The people did not exaggerate. You are strong." The man in the sky looked towards Mutai.

"Come with me, I am an elder of Spring Autumn Sect."

"I don't want to," Mutai replied.

"Don't bury your talent here by serving a puny merchant," the man shouted while hovering in the sky.

"Watch your words," Mutai shouted as the ground beneath him began to crack. It trembled then he leapt into the sky.

The next instant, he was in front of that man, then he swung his axe towards the man.

But the axe halted as if it had struck an invisible wall. Mutai tried to push it further.

The ground-qi-reinforced axe collided with the qi surrounding the man and slowed down.

Mutai felt his axe being repelled by the strange transparent qi, then his axe became cold. The cold spread and reached all the way to his hands.

At the same time, the wind, the vapour, everything compressed towards the man making him appear as trapped within dense vapour.

The image barely lasted a second before exploding outward, pushing Mutai into the manor.

The walls cracked and burst apart as Mutai crashed into the building

A moment later, a silhouette leapt from the dust once again. He held the axe tightly, and his shadow reflected over the elder who hovered in the sky.

The axe and the man's qi collided again in the air.

But this time, when the axe and the man's qi collided again, the ground qi concentrated along the blade, turning it dark brown, the sharpened edge sliced through the Sky Qi.

The enemy immediately responded and lifted his sword; the axe hit the sword.

Ground and sky qi collided, sending the enemy flying backwards through the air and Mutai landed on the ground as dust rose beneath his feet.

Mutai jumped again, but the enemy moved to the right side in the sky just enough to dodge.

"Brute," the enemy commented as his sword slashed behind Mutai.

Just then, Mutai threw his axe towards the back from his right underarm.

The sword and the axe collided again. Then Mutai spun around and caught the handle of the axe as he fell down, the enemy's sword pressed against him from above.

Mutai then pushed the sword aside with his axe, and punched out at the enemy's gut with his left hand.

The man protected his gut with Sky Qi. Mutai's fist slowed, but the Ground Qi in his palm intensified, driving his punch into the man's gut.

The enemy opened his mouth in pain, then Mutai grabbed the man's leg and flipped him over, sending them both crashing to the ground.

BOOM!

Dust rose and when it settled, Mutai was standing unharmed, his axe pointed at the enemy, who lay on the ground, blood coming out of his mouth and unable to move.

"You are just so, so,.. despite being an elder of a sect", Mutai spat saliva to the side.

Right then, Chu Feng walked over to beside him and asked: "Are you here for the green liquid?"

"Ha..ha.ha., you must be Chu Feng...so you knew..A puny merchant like you holding something like this.."

"Aaaa"

Before he could finish his sentence, Mutai pressed his foot on the gut of the man.

"Watch how you address Sir Chu Feng.”

"Guards, take him away", Chu Feng ordered.

Immediately, two foundation cultivators came forward from the mansion guards and lifted the enemy between their arms.

“You dare!” the elder shouted helplessly as they carried him inside, his legs scraping against the ground.

"Mutai." Then Chu Feng looked at Mutai.

"Yes, sir."

Then he looked at the damaged manor and the ground, and said, "Begin repairs. By tomorrow, everything should be as it used to be"

"Yes, sir"

"Also, take our new member Shui here, and assign him the work "

"Yes, sir."

"I've got to go and read more books, take care of everything," Chu Feng said.

"Don't worry, sir, I will", Mutai replied.

Chu Feng then walked inside the crumbled manor towards his library while Yan still stayed outside.

Mutai approached Yan and said, "Welcome to the Saint Merchants".

"Well, Shui, your first duty is to help us with the repairs", Mutai said.

Yan nodded. Mutai then called a guard and asked him to bring the builders.

After half an hour, the builders arrived, and they ordered new marble, sand and water.

After about another two hours, the repairs began.

Yan carried water from the nearby well to the site alongside the other merchant guards. Then he helped carry the marble bricks. The sun had set.

The lanterns were lit; some also brought wooden torches, and the work continued.

More and more people were hired to help rebuild the manor. More importantly, Yan noticed that some of them came and insisted on working without payment.

Some came to replace the workers when they went to rest or lay on the ground to have food served by the merchants.

"Brother, give it to me." A man approached Yan as he carried a tray of food for the workers.
