Chapter 73 : The Silence of the Cellar
Warning! Warning! Warning!
The white letters brightened, Yan then felt a severe headache.
Emergency Mission: Get away from the Restaurant.
Yan tightened his grip on his head, the pain was unbearable. It throbbed like needles pinning him on his head, immediately, he rushed away from Noble Ura's restaurant.
The berserkers at the third restaurant stood and then they collectively looked at Luma with wide smiles.
Just as the wave of berserkers reached towards them, the momentum simply vanished. The man leading the charge, whose lips had been pulled back in that terrifying, synchronised smile, hit the floor first. His knees buckled, and he collapsed forward, his head striking the wood with a dull, heavy thud.
Then the woman beside him fell. Then the others.
One by one, they folded like marionettes whose strings had been cut simultaneously.
The clatter of falling bodies and overturning chairs echoed through the hall, followed by a silence so absolute it felt like a physical weight on Luna’s chest.
"Secure them!" Luna shouted, though her voice lacked conviction.
The soldiers moved in, weapons trembling. They began to zip-tie wrists and check pulses.
"They are... dead, all...dead." One soldier as his body shivered.
But Luna walked straight toward the back of the room. She found the owner sprawled near the kitchen door.
Noble Ura lay face-down. Her fine silk robes were rumpled, and her fingers were still curled as if clutching a glass that wasn't there.
Luna used the toe of her boot to roll her over to only find her eyes were wide, fixed on the ceiling, her breath did not exist.
She was in the same state as the rest, passed with the smile.
Meanwhile Yan who ran away from the restaurant, finally breathed while clutching his head tightly as the headache subsided.
And when he looked up, a suspicious man covered with a blanket was running, he carried a bottle of green liquid.
Yan immediately chased after the man, the man noticed Yan, and increased his speed.
The chase continued through the streets of Sunset City until they were out of the city.
Then the man suddenly turned around, Yan halted.
"Why are you chasing me?" His eyes fell on Yan as he asked.
Yan did not reply immediately and lunged forward.
"Damn"
The man took out the sword from his waist as the aura of the late spiritual qi foundation realm erupted from him.
Yan looked at his waist, and remembered that his sword was confiscated by the city guards.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
The sword did not wait for Yan's thought, it arrived in front of him with a slash from the top.
Yan tilted back and dodged, the next came from the side.
Yan bent backwards and then stood up and immediately punched towards the face of the attacker.
The attacker tilted his face to the right side and dodged.
Simultaneously, Yan's other hand moved quickly and caught the hand of the attacker which was holding the sword.
Then Yan pulled the attacker up over his back and threw him to the ground. The dust erupted around, and the sword fell a bit far away. The green liquid bottle slipped from the attacker's waist and rolled over to the ground, Yan's gaze fell on it.
Before Yan could move to it, the qi around the enemy erupted, and his skin hardened with ground qi.
And then he punched out, the ground qi reinforced fist hit Yan on the cheek.
Yan felt pain after a long time as redness appeared on his face.
Yan moved his hand over the part of his cheek turned red and looked at the attacker who had backed up and already stood up.
Yan clenched his fist and raised his hand to the sides as the ground qi concentrated at his fist, and then the fist moved.
It aimed at the stomach of the enemy, the enemy responded, and brought his hands together to catch the incoming fist , but the ground beneath his feet turned soft and he slipped. At the same time the fist hit his stomach.
The enemy coughed out blood, his qi barrier broke, and the fist continued and hit his body directly.
Shit.
Yan tried to stop the fist but was already too late it tore through half his stomach as the guy fell on the ground, and immediately breathed his last.
Yan pulled his hand back and immediately rubbed the blood out of his hand onto the blanket of the man, and searched his pockets.
And in his pocket, Yan found a paper, it had only a name written.
Chu Feng.
Yan noted the name, took the green liquid bottle and the on it, and left the place.
On his way back to the city guards' prison Yan noticed, the officers were taking corpses of berserkers out of the restaurant.
He looked at the restaurant for more than a minute and then returned to the prison.
The prison was still in Chaos, the berserkers and guards were still engaged, Yan quietly arrived outside his cell and knocked three times.
Tan Suzi opened the door and let him in.
"What did you do ?" Tan Suzi asked, but Yan remained silent and then took out the bottle he brought.
Tan Suzi stared at it.
A week later, the heavy iron bolt of the holding cell shrieked, a raw sound that vibrated through the damp stone walls of the guard compound.
Yan stepped out first, his boots felt heavy, the leather caked with the dried grime of a week spent in a windowless room. Behind him, Tan Suzi followed, her shoulders hunched as if trying to shield herself from the oppressive chill of the underground.
They found Officer Luna waiting at the end of the hall with the sword that Ren gifted.
She looked like a ghost of the woman who had kicked in Ura’s door. Her armour was dull, and the dark circles beneath her eyes looked like bruises.
“You’re free to go,” Luna said. Her voice was a dry rasp.
“Just like that?” Tan Suzi asked. “No more questions?”
“ We have done an investigation, you are innocent, You can go ” Luna replied, staring at a flickering oil lamp on the wall.
Then she handed the sword to Yan and said "And you ! You have completed the tenure for causing trouble, and when the berserkers broke out from the cell, everyone thought you died, gladly you were safely able to return to the cell in time, it's the guards' fault for pushing you in that cell"
She bowed slightly and said, "I request you to forgive the guards, please don't pursue the incident further"
Yan looked at Luna who bowed sincerely and nodded.
"Sure, I won't, but tell me what happened with the berserker investigation?" Yan asked.
Her fingers tightened, she kept her hands closer and said, " All of them are dead" as she shook.
"The one in Noble Ura's restaurant, they died instantly all at a time with a terrifying smile on their faces" She said.
“There are no more clues, Ura had no allies on the Council, Her subordinates died right alongside her"
" And the one we recaptured in the cell after they escaped also died one by one over the days, we couldn't stop their death" Luna said.
"And thankfully, the cases stopped we no longer see new berserkers"
Tan Suzi’s breath hitched, “What do you mean?"
Luna’s voice cracked,“The cellar... the place where we held them... It’s just a pit of corpses now.
One minute they were breathing, and the next, they just stopped, nothing worked.”
She stepped closer, her eyes wide and haunted.
“They died without any warning, just dropped dead immediately”
Tan Suzi did not ask anything further. Come with me , I will show you the way out.
Luna pulled the gate open.
After days of their time in prison, they finally saw the sun again.
"I missed the air" Tan Suzi said.
"And it was suffocating to be with you, rock." She turned to Yan, who just looked straight.
