THE SYSTEM IS NOT MINE

After bickering with the Han Defu unit, Chen Yu arrived at the biggest tent of the garrison. It stood on the highest ground of the garrison.

"Chen Yu, Why are you here?"

Two guards outside the tent recognized Chen Yu as soon as he arrived.

"I would like to meet the General" Chen Yu replied.

The guards looked at him, then at each other, and looked back at Chen Yu.

One of them said "Chen Yu, although you are quite famous now, you can't just get an audience from the General whenever you want"

"No, I want to meet her, Could you please convey it to her?" Chen requested.

They both looked at each other again and the other person replied "No, we can't"

"What if it's related to war?" Chen Yu said.

"Still you don't have the rank to discuss it " the first guard replied.

"I am not here as a soldier of a Han Defu private unit, but as a commander of the unit"

Chen Yu took the bronze badge with leaf symbol out from his pocket.

Seeing the badge, the guard narrowed his eyes.

" I will go and check with the General, if she approves, I will call you.." the guard who spoke first said and entered inside the tent.

Chen Yu waited outside.

After about ten minutes, he came back and said "You can go in"

"Thank you"

Chen Yu said and looked at them before entering the tent.

Inside, General Hecta watching a large battlefield map placed on the table.

Wooden markers on the map represented infantry formations while Iron tokens marked cavalry movements.

She did not look up when Chen Yu entered.

“You want to meet me?” and asked while her eyes still moved through the map.

“Yes, General.”, Chen Yu knelt.

“What is it?” Hecta asked.

Chen Yu swallowed a deep breath.

“I ..request for the reassignment of one soldier.” Chen Yu said.

Immediately, Hecta looked up and stared at him. “Which one?”

“Yan.”

"His name is Yan"

The name lingered in the air.

“He was recently assigned to the cultivator reserve along with me”

Chen Yu forced the words out.

“I request that he return to my unit before the next battle.”

Hecta studied him carefully.

“You want him under your command.”

“Yes.”

“And why?”

Chen Yu hesitated and did not answer..

The silence stretched for several seconds, and then something flickered in Hecta’s eyes.

A brief glint of interest.

“Granted.” she said.

Chen Yu blinked in surprise as he had expected questions, resistance and refusal.

Instead she simply turned back to the map, and said “You may leave.”

“Yes, General.”Chen Yu bowed and left the place.

"Chen Yu"

" Or Should I call you Commander Chen Yu" a fat guy approached as soon as Chen Yu was back to his unit.

"Fatty, what do you want?" Chen yu looked over.

"Chen Yu, can you help me with a small request.." Guda said.

"What's it?" Chen Yu asked..

"Well, Mimi sent bread to me, the parcel was supposed to arrive yesterday..but it's still missing.."

Chen Yu stared at him while a face popped up in his mind, still he said "We are at war with Shin"

"Commander, don't be like that.. help me find it, if you just say a word, the whole unit will search and get it back" Guda looked at Chen Yu with blinking eyes.

"We don't have time.."Chen Yu said.

But Guda did not leave, still looked at Chen Yu..

Aftera about five minutes, Guda still there.

"Okay, you win" Chen Yu said.

"Thank you...Thank you.. commander, I will feed you lots of bread.." Guda said.

"I don't need your damn bread..go and call everyone.." Chen Yu said.

"Also, Commander, after today's battle, come with me to my house again, my wife invited you" Chen Yu added.

Chen Yu looked at Guda , and halted for a second, smiled, and said "Will see...first summon everyone "

Guda left the tent.

The Han Defu unit arrived outside Chen Yu's new commander tent including Yan, the old man and several others.

Chen Yu looked at them..he hesitated,..then he looked at Guda who was looking at him with excited eyes.

"I need a little help from you all."

" Kid, what do you need this old bones for" old man asked.

Guda looked at the old man, "You old fella, he is our commander now..mind your manners"

"Ahem..ahem..fatty, my old bones have bad memory" the old man corrected.

"My apologies, Commander,..The old bones at your service"

" I will definitely help you out" The old man declared.

Chen Yu looked at the old man and others.."About that.."

"Commander! Don't hesitate, I old fellow will help out even if no one does.."

Chen Yu took a deep breath..

"We need to find.."

For a moment, everyone's eyes fell on Chen Yu.

"We need to find Bread"

By midday the horns of war sounded across the plains.Infantry gathered into long formations, cavalry units moved along the flanks.

Behind them stood the cultivator ranks.Chen Yu’s unit stood at the front line.The most dangerous position on the battlefield.

The first to clash.

The first to fall.

Yan now stood among them again just as Chen Yu had requested.Across the battlefield the army of the Kingdom of Shin prepared in silence.

The wind carried the distant sound of metal, then the war horns sounded.

The battle began.

But something was wrong.

The enemy archers did not aim across the entire field instead their bows turned toward a single section of the line.

Toward the front.

Toward Chen Yu’s unit.

A commander’s voice echoed across the Shin formation.

“Loose!”

The sky darkened.

Thousands of arrows surged upward.

And every single one of them was aimed directly at Chen Yu and the soldiers around him.
