Revenge Karma: She Broke Our Childhood Promise, But Her Tomboy Best-friend Saved Me.

The Morning After The Fire

When I opened my eyes again, the morning light was much stronger.

The bright, golden rays of the early sun filtered through the gaps in the blinds, painting my bedroom walls in warm, vibrant colors.

Akane was still lying with her head resting on my chest, and her dark, jagged hair was splayed out like spilled ink against my pale skin.

Her breathing was deep and incredibly regular. Her lips were parted slightly, relaxed in sleep.

She was beautiful, and I didn't want to wake her up; I just wanted to admire her face.

If I had the choice, I could have stayed in that exact position for hours, or even days.

But then, I felt the rhythm of her breathing hitch and change. Her dark eyelashes fluttered against her cheeks.

Akane was waking up.

She didn't open her eyes immediately. Instead, she let out a low, contented groan and rubbed her cheek against my chest, burrowing deeper into my arms as if she were trying to physically fuse our bodies together, as if there simply wasn't enough closeness in the world to satisfy her.

"Good morning," I whispered, my voice rough.

"Not yet, please," she mumbled into my skin, her voice completely thick and heavy with sleep. "Five more minutes."

I laughed softly, the vibration rumbling in my chest beneath her ear. "Okay."

I tightened my arms around her waist, and we stayed like that, floating in the warm, golden limbo between sleep and reality.

We definitely stayed like that for more than five minutes.

Then, the shrill, electronic scream of my phone alarm shattered the peace, blaring loudly from the bedside table.

Akane groaned in absolute misery, burying her face even deeper into my chest to block out the noise. "I hate that thing. Kill it."

"It's time to get up," I said, reaching blindly with one hand to slap the screen and silence the alarm.

"No. I don't want." She said, clearly bothered.

"We have to go to school," I replied, trying to put some sense into her.

"No, we don't." She protested, gently punching my chest.

I laughed again, a bright, clear sound. "Akane..."

She finally lifted her head, looking up at me.

Her golden eyes were still heavy and clouded with sleep, but a beautiful, genuine smile was playing on her lips.

"Fine," she conceded reluctantly, letting her head drop back to the pillow. "But you owe me a massive favor for forcing me out of this bed."

"Which is?" I said, poking her cheek.

"I'll decide later. But you owe me." She said, gently 'shoving' my hand away.

"Deal," I replied.

Then, we climbed out of the bed almost in perfect synchronicity. Our fingers found each other over the mattress, and we stood there for a moment, looking at each other in the morning light, as if we were taking a running start before jumping back into the reality of the day.

I could feel that our thoughts had aligned.

"Shower?" she suddenly asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Shower," I confirmed with a nod.

But neither of us actually moved toward the bathroom door.

Akane let out a low, raspy laugh, shaking her head.

"We are becoming incredibly pathetic, I guess," she noted dryly.

"Probably," I agreed easily.

"Come on, dumbhead," Akane said.

She then grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the bedroom.

The bathroom in my house was relatively small, but it was just big enough for the two of us to fit comfortably.

That was the first time I had taken a shower with a girl.

The hot water enveloped us almost immediately, the steam rising to fog up the mirrors, creating a warm, secluded oasis.

For the first few minutes, we didn't do anything. We just stood under the hot water's heavy spray in complete silence while facing each other, our foreheads resting together, letting the heat wash away the lingering exhaustion of the night.

But eventually, the stillness broke, and Akane's hands began to move.

There was no frantic urgency in her touch; that was a slow, incredibly deliberate, reverent exploration. It was the touch of someone who wanted to memorize every single millimeter of the person standing before them.

Her wet fingers slid smoothly over my chest, tracing the outline of my collarbone, following the line of my muscles, trailing agonizingly slowly down my abdomen.

"What are you doing?" I asked, my voice suddenly sounding very strained and breathless over the sound of the running water.

"I'm repaying you," she whispered, leaning forward until her wet lips were brushing against my earlobe. "For last night. You drove me absolutely crazy."

"Akane, You don't need to—"

"Shut up, ghost boy." She said, not wanting to hear anything else.

Her fingers continued their downward trajectory, her touch feather-light but setting my nerves entirely on fire.

"I just need to... return the favor, because I hate being in debt," she purred, her voice a dark, velvety promise. "Nothing more."

But the wicked, triumphant smirk playing on her lips said the exact opposite.

When her hands finally found their intended target beneath the rushing water, a choked, unexpected groan tore itself from my throat, echoing loudly off the tiled walls.

Akane smiled against my skin, looking incredibly satisfied with her work.

"Mmmh... I like it when you make that noise," she murmured, her golden eyes flashing with a predatory heat.

Then, Akane immediately dropped to her knees, her face too close to my thing.

"Ohhh God... so..." She said, starting to stroke me with one hand, while the other one traced lines from the base to the tip, making me moan. "So this monster was inside me...? Holy shit,"

"I—" I tried to stay silent, but Akane's touch was too good.

She then turned her gaze to me, and the vision of her eyes, full of mischief, lust, and dominance, made me crazy.

"Ah, ah, ah~ who gave you permission to speak, naughty monster boy~?" She said, stroking me harder.

The sensation was overwhelming. I felt like I could explode in every moment, and the only things that came out of my mouth were strangled moans as she kept getting faster.

"Your moans are music to my ears, Shin... let me hear more—" and in that moment, Akane took everything inside her mouth.

"Ahhh—!" I moaned, arching my back a little.

Akane pulled out for an instant, just to look into my eyes with a malicious smirk.

"God... I love those reactions...Mph—*gulp*" In that moment, Akane took everything in her mouth again, but this time she started moving, first slowly, then rapidly.

The warm, soft, wet membrane wrapping around my thing was the most amazing thing I've ever felt.

Akane kept moving rapidly, using both her hands and mouth, in a beautiful blowjob. Moreover, the feeling of her tongue constantly moving on my frenulum made me go crazy.

My legs were trembling, and I was about to reach the limit in such a short time. Akane's mouth felt too good.

Akane didn't care about anything; she just kept going faster and faster, with her tongue occasionally moving in circles around the tip and her gaze moving between my eyes and my thing.

"Akane...! If you continue, I'll—!" I tried to say, but Akane didn't care.

Her golden eyes stared into mine and the only thing she managed to say was a "Mmph... mmm..." with a small nod of her head.

It was the sign that I could release everything.

Akane's movements quickened. I couldn't hold back anymore.

"Akane! I'm—!! AHH!" I cried, and in that moment, I released everything inside her mouth.

She didn't pull it out, not even for an instant.

She swallowed it all, milking every last drop.

Then, after a few moments, Akane moved away and stood up and nibbled on my earlobe.

"Shin... the taste of you... is amazing... so sweet and thick... I guess I'm gonna get addicted..." She whispered before hugging me tight.

I couldn't reply; I was panting too much, and Akane seemed to be satisfied.

"Ah...Akane... You're too good..." I managed to say.

She smirked, "Oh? Really? That was my first time doing something like that," She said, tracing lines on my chest. "I guess that the debt is finally repaid. I'm satisfied." She said, chuckling.

Then, the rest of our shower didn't last long, because both of us knew, with absolute certainty, that if we allowed that spark to catch fire again, we would never make it out of that bathroom, let alone to school.

When we finally turned the water off and stepped out of the shower, we were both completely breathless, our faces flushed bright red, and we were giggling uncontrollably like two kids who had just pulled off a brilliant prank.

Then, we walked back into the bedroom, wrapped in two thick, white towels.

Because I didn't have any spares her size, she was wearing one of mine, the terrycloth fabric wrapping around her multiple times and hanging almost down to her knees.

I stopped in the middle of the room, running a hand through my damp hair as a sudden, very practical thought struck me.

"I have a problem," I announced, turning to look at her.

"What is it?" she asked, drying her hair with a smaller towel.

"You... do you have a change of clothes? For school?" I said, scratching the back of my head.

Akane lowered the towel from her head, looking at me with one dark eyebrow raised to an impressive height, and then the corners of her lips curled upward into a highly amused, thoroughly patronizing smirk.

"Of course I have a change of clothes, dumbhead," she said, her tone dripping with mock incredulity. "I packed everything in my bag before we even left my apartment. Who exactly do you think I am? Some disorganized amateur?"

I held my hands up in immediate surrender, laughing. "Okay, okay. My bad. I should never have doubted your tactical genius."

"Dumbhead," she added, tossing the damp towel directly at my face, but the insult was entirely toothless, laced with a thick, undeniable affection.

We went downstairs to the kitchen fully dressed in our school uniforms. (Me, at least.)

This time, there was absolutely no debate or dramatic negotiation about who was going to command the stove.

We worked together.

Akane started to move to grab things, and I felt the urge to help her.

I didn't know if it was because of her disaster of yesterday or because I actually wanted to be helpful to her.

It was a silent, incredibly synchronized dance.

Akane stood at the counter, meticulously slicing an apple and arranging the fruit on a small plate, while I stood at the stove, turning on the burner to fry the eggs.

She stirred the hot coffee in the mugs, and I popped the bread into the toaster.

We moved around each other in the small space with an ease that suggested we had been doing this for years, rather than just a day. It was perfect domestic harmony.

And it was while I was watching her carefully, precisely slice the apple with an almost surgical focus that a sudden, nagging doubt bloomed in the back of my mind.

"Hey, Akane," I said, leaning my hip against the counter.

"Mh?" she replied, not looking up from the cutting board.

"How come you were such an absolute, catastrophic disaster at cooking yesterday evening?"

Her hands froze mid-slice, and she stayed perfectly still for a full two seconds.

Then, she resumed her cutting, but the rhythm of the knife against the board was slightly off, a little too fast, a little too deliberate.

"If I hadn't been a disaster," she said, her voice perfectly calm, attempting an airy, detached tone, "then maybe you wouldn't have woken up from your depressive spiral to come rescue me. Or maybe I wanted to wake you up for real."

I turned my head fully, staring at her profile in disbelief.

"Or maybe I was just way too tired to focus on cooking," she quickly added, shrugging a shoulder dismissively. "Who knows..."

But her smile—the tiny, almost imperceptible twitch at the corner of her lips—gave her away entirely.

She had done it on purpose.

The egg disaster, the burning oil, the panicked shrieking—it hadn't been an accident at all.

She had intentionally ruined the dinner because she wanted me to step in. She wanted me to feel useful and necessary, and to snap me out of my apathetic fog and make me feel alive again.

I stared at her, the realization washing over me, and my heart swelled with a gratitude so vast, so profound, that it actually made my chest ache.

She had manipulated me, yes, but she had done it entirely out of love.

"Thank you," I breathed, my voice thick with emotion.

I didn't think about it.

I crossed the short distance between us, reached out, and gently took her face between my hands, then tilted her head up and pressed a firm, decisive kiss directly onto her lips.

It was quick, but it carried the weight of everything I couldn't articulate into words.

I pulled back slightly.

Akane's cheeks were blazing red. The fearless lone wolf looked completely flustered.

"S-Shin," she said, her voice dropping an octave, becoming incredibly raspy and dangerous. "If you do that again, right now, I cannot guarantee that either of us will make it out of this house to go to school."

As she spoke, her index finger reached out, slowly and deliberately tracing a line from the belt of my uniform trousers straight up to the center of my chest.

My breath hitched, my heart hammering against my ribs.

"Then... I guess I won't do it again," I managed to say, taking a very cautious step backward, putting a safe distance between us.

But I was smiling. A massive, unrestrained grin.

And as I looked at her, I saw that she was smiling, too.

We ate our breakfast quickly, but there was no sense of panicked rushing. The toast was perfectly golden, the eggs were flawless, and the coffee was hot and bitter.

That was just a normal, everyday breakfast on a random morning. But sitting there at the small wooden table, with Akane across from me, her dark hair still slightly damp from the shower, dressed in her crisp school 'uniform', it was undeniably the most beautiful, perfect meal I had ever had in my entire life.

"Ready?" she asked, setting her empty mug down on the table.

"Ready," I replied, standing up to grab my bag.

We were ready. We put our school shoes on in the entryway. She in her 'uniform', me in mine.

But as we stood by the front door, I realized that something fundamental had shifted in the universe.

We were no longer two separate, isolated people merely walking in the same direction. We were a single, unified entity.

I opened the front door and stepped out into the crisp morning air first; Akane followed right behind me.

As soon as we were on the pavement, our hands naturally sought each other out, and our fingers intertwined seamlessly, a lock clicking perfectly into place.

The morning light was warm, casting a golden glow over the suburban street. The sky above was a brilliant, cloudless azure.

"Shin," Akane said quietly as we began to walk toward the school.

"Yeah?"

"Today... today isn't going to be like the other days."

She didn't elaborate, but she didn't have to. We both knew exactly what she meant.

Today, the initial shock of our sudden pairing would have worn off as the school began to come to terms with the reality of our relationship.

The whispers would turn into concrete rumors, and the stares would become more analytical.

Moreover, the fallout from Kurone's public breakdown would begin to settle, and the battle lines would be drawn.

"I know," I said, my voice steady and calm.

I tightened my grip on her hand, pulling her slightly closer to my side.

"But that's okay," I added, looking straight ahead.

She turned her head to look at me. The morning sun caught her golden eyes, making them shine with a fierce, brilliant light.

"Yeah," she agreed softly, a proud smile touching her lips. "It's okay."

We continued our walk toward the high school. Hand in hand.

The rest of the world around us—the passing cars, the other students walking to class, the towering buildings of the city—simply didn't exist. There was only her and me.

With her, I wasn't scared of going to school anymore. I didn't even care about the gossip, because I knew, with absolute, unwavering certainty, that whatever happened next... it would happen with her by my side.
