CHAPTER 112
Three days later, Konoha had completely occupied the Land of Waves.
In the center of the camp, before a temporarily erected high platform, more than four hundred Konoha shinobi stood in neat formations.
Might Guy, Ebisu, and Shiranui Genma stood among the ranks of Team 9.
At the front of the team stood their captain, Hyuga Yukian.
Though his body was still wrapped in bandages, his condition was visibly much better than before.
His remaining left eye gazed calmly ahead.
Homura Mitokado stood atop the platform, his voice amplified by Chakra so that every shinobi present could hear it clearly.
"The Land of Waves campaign has ended in victory!"
"In this battle, our forces seized a large quantity of supplies and captured thirty-seven Hidden Mist shinobi."
"We have completely driven the Hidden Mist forces from the Land of Waves and reclaimed control of both the nation and its surrounding waters!"
A wave of suppressed cheers erupted from the assembled shinobi.
Homura Mitokado raised a hand, signaling for silence before continuing.
"Following the assessment of military achievements, Headquarters has decided to officially open the war merit exchange system."
"All personnel who participated in this campaign may exchange their accumulated war merit for corresponding supplies, ninja tools, equipment, or ninjutsu scrolls."
"That is all. Dismissed."
"The war merit exchange station is now open. Proceed according to your team order."
As soon as the speech ended, the formation was dismissed.
Hyuga Yukian turned toward the three members of Team 9.
His expression was noticeably more relaxed than usual.
"The war merit exchange is open. You can go see what interests you."
"I have other matters to handle, so I won't be going."
"Understood, Captain!"
Ebisu immediately responded and pulled Might Guy and Shiranui Genma toward the exchange station.
"Let's go, let's go!"
"I've been waiting for this day forever!"
Shiranui Genma kept his senbon in his mouth. Although he didn't say anything, his pace clearly quickened.
Might Guy followed behind the two, a trace of curiosity rising in his heart.
Although he wasn't particularly lacking in anything, it wouldn't hurt to have a look.
Outside the war merit exchange tent, a long queue had already formed.
Ebisu repeatedly stood on tiptoe while pushing up the sunglasses on the bridge of his nose.
"I wonder what kind of good stuff we can exchange for with our points."
The line advanced steadily.
About half an hour later, it was finally Team 9's turn.
After entering the tent, they found the interior far simpler than they had imagined.
Behind a long wooden desk sat an administrative Chunin with a serious expression.
Several opened exchange catalogues were spread before him.
Behind him stood a number of simple storage shelves displaying common ninja tools, medicine supplies, and sample sealed scrolls arranged by category.
"Names and team designation."
The administrative Chunin didn't even look up as the tip of his pen tapped against the registration ledger.
"Team 9. Might Guy, Ebisu, Shiranui Genma."
Ebisu answered immediately.
The administrative Chunin flipped through the ledger until he found the corresponding page.
When his gaze landed on the recorded figures, his eyebrows twitched almost imperceptibly.
He looked up and briefly examined the three of them.
A flash of surprise crossed his eyes before he returned to his businesslike demeanor.
"The war merit calculations have been completed."
"Might Guy: 290 points."
"Ebisu: 203 points."
"Shiranui Genma: 210 points."
"What?! Two hundred and three points? I have two hundred and three points?!"
Ebisu nearly shouted.
He leaned across the desk, both hands planted firmly on its surface, eyes widened in disbelief.
The number far exceeded his expectations.
He had originally thought that obtaining one hundred and fifty points would already be considered excellent.
He never imagined it would reach two hundred and three.
The administrative Chunin nodded and pointed toward the detailed records.
"Correct."
"The occupation campaign itself grants a guaranteed base reward of fifty points."
"During the Land of Waves campaign, your routine coastal reconnaissance missions and multiple skirmishes against Hidden Mist patrol teams accumulated an additional twenty-three points."
"During the final bait operation in Reef Bay, you effectively disrupted the actions of Hidden Mist Jonin Ao."
"Furthermore, in cooperation with Shiranui Genma, you successfully suppressed and captured a member of the Hozuki Clan."
"Your performance in that battle was evaluated at eighty points."
"Adding your previous fifty-point reward brings your total to two hundred and three."
Ebisu became so excited that even his hands trembled.
The senbon in Shiranui Genma's mouth stopped spinning as a faint gleam appeared in his eyes.
Two hundred and ten points.
That was considerably higher than his own private estimate.
After listening to the explanation, Might Guy also understood how his own total had been calculated.
The composition of his two hundred and ninety points became very clear.
Successfully disrupting Ao's operation on Mist Island and preventing the theft of the Byakugan had earned him one hundred points.
Participating in and helping complete the strategic objective of fully occupying the Land of Waves provided another fifty-point base reward.
Combined with his performance during the final bait operation and the routine missions carried out over the previous months, the total reached two hundred and ninety points.
"You may now begin exchanging your rewards."
"These are the exchange catalogues. You may browse them yourself, or you can tell me directly which categories interest you."
The administrative Chunin pushed several catalogues toward the center of the table.
Ebisu and Shiranui Genma immediately leaned forward.
Displaying remarkable tacit understanding, the two instantly grabbed the catalogue labeled [Captured Ninja Tools / Special Equipment].
Their fingers moved rapidly across the densely packed entries as they searched through the list.
Might Guy also picked up a catalogue and began flipping through it.
He first glanced through the contents page.
Ninja Tools.
Ninjutsu and Taijutsu Scrolls.
Medicinal Herbs and Supplies.
Special Materials.
Currency Exchange.
Miscellaneous Items.
Turning to the Ninjutsu and Taijutsu section, his eyes moved across the listed names and descriptions one after another.
[Fire Release: Great Flame Bullet Technique (B-Rank, 250 points)]
[Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique (B-Rank, 240 points)]
[Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall (B-Rank, 180 points)]
Most of the available options were common elemental ninjutsu.
Taijutsu scrolls were comparatively rare, and the majority focused on assassination-oriented combat methods that did not suit his fighting style.
However, one particular technique immediately caught his attention.
[Fire Walk (B-Rank, Ninjutsu-Taijutsu, 260 points)]
[Core Classification: Chakra-enhanced close-combat Ninjutsu-Taijutsu designed around Chakra Blade principles.]
[Range: Mid-range]
[Hand Seal: Tiger]
[Core Effect: Releases a high-speed stream of flames that can be freely shaped and directed. It may travel along the ground, be attached to weapons, or be wrapped around the user's body to enhance charging attacks.]
