Chapter 58 58: Invisibility Cloak
The morning sun climbed over the Great Hall, but for once, it didn't signal the start of another day of dread. Hogwarts was alive with a different kind of energy—the frantic, joyful chaos of an early summer holiday. Suitcases were being dragged across stone floors, owls were hooting in a frenzy, and the laughter of students echoed through corridors that had been a war zone only hours before.
Most of the students were heading home. The Ministry had declared a week of national mourning and celebration, and parents were arriving in droves to collect their children, desperate to hold them after the news of the siege.
Ethan stood near the massive oak doors of the Entrance Hall, leaning against a stone pillar and watching the exodus. He looked relaxed, his leather jacket repaired and the Elder Wand tucked securely into an inner pocket.
"Moving out, then?" Ethan asked as a familiar group approached.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione stopped in front of him. They looked tired—Ron had a bandage on his arm, and Hermione's robes were still singed—but the shadows under their eyes were gone. Harry, in particular, looked like a different person. The constant tension in his shoulders had vanished along with the scar's jagged connection to Voldemort.
"My aunt and uncle won't exactly be throwing a parade," Harry said with a small, weary smile. "But the Weasleys invited me to the Burrow. I think I've had enough of this castle for a while."
"Can't blame you," Ethan nodded. "You've done your time, kid."
Harry stepped forward, his expression becoming serious. "I wanted to thank you again, Ethan. For everything. Not just the fighting... but for what you did in the office. I can finally think straight. It's like a bell stopped ringing in my head."
"Consider it a gift from a guy who hates parasites," Ethan replied. "But before you head off to enjoy your peace and quiet, I have a bit of a strange request."
Harry tilted his head. "Anything."
"I need your cloak," Ethan said plainly. "The Invisibility Cloak. I'm collecting souvenirs of this world as mementos."
Ron and Hermione shared a startled look. The Cloak was Harry's most prized possession, a family heirloom that had saved their lives a dozen times. But Harry didn't even blink. He reached into his rucksack, pulled out the silvery, fluid fabric, and handed it over without a second of hesitation.
"Here," Harry said firmly. "You saved my life. You helped us get justice for my parents. If you need it, it's yours."
"Harry!" Ron whispered, though he didn't move to stop him.
"It's alright, Ron," Harry said, looking back at his friend. "I don't think I'll be needing to hide as much as I used to."
Ethan took the fabric, feeling the cool, weightless silk between his fingers. It didn't just feel like cloth; it felt like a fold of the night sky.
[ Side Mission: Master of the Hallows ]
Status: 2/3 (Invisibility Cloak Secured)
Note: The true Cloak of True Invisibility. A relic that ignores the laws of standard detection.
"I told you I'm a collector, but I'm not a thief," Ethan said, a smirk playing on his lips. "I'm not taking it for free."
He reached into the air beside him, his hand disappearing into a golden, shimmering rift. With a sharp tug, he pulled out an identical bundle of silvery cloth and handed it to Harry.
"What's this?" Harry asked, feeling the weight of the new cloak.
"A high-end replica," Ethan explained. "It'll hide you from sight and sound just as well as the original. It's not a 'Deathly Hallow'—it won't hide you from Death himself—but for sneaking into the kitchens or avoiding the press, it'll do the job perfectly."
Harry ran a hand over the new fabric. It looked and felt exactly like his old one. "Thank you, Mr. Williams."
"And since you guys are here, let me give you some little gifts too," Ethan said, reaching back into the rift. He pulled out a thick, leather-bound volume with a glowing seal. He handed it to Hermione. "Here. I noticed you were curious about my magic. This is a primer on Eldritch Foundations and Geometric Manifestation. It's the basics of Kamar-Taj theory."
Hermione's eyes widened, her hands trembling as she took the book. "Thank you, Mr. Williams! This is... I mean, …. it's the best gift ever!"
What a sweet girl, Ethan thought, watching her beam. Only if you were a little older... wait, what am I thinking?, I need to get my head in the game.
While Hermione was practically vibrating with excitement, Harry and Ron looked at her in a mix of horror and pity. Typical reaction for a book gift, Ethan noted.
"And for you, Ron," Ethan said. He knew Ron's pride. He couldn't just hand him a sack of Galleons, even though he had more gold than he knew what to do with. He reached deep into the rift and pulled out a sleek, aerodynamic object wrapped in enchanted brown paper. "The latest Thunderbolt 9000. It's customized for speed and handling. Better than a Firebolt."
Ron's jaw dropped. He tore a bit of the paper away to see the polished wood and the silver tail-twigs. "You... you're joking. For me?"
"Don't mention it," Ethan said, stepping back to let them pass. "Go on. Get out of here. Try to be a normal teenager for a few weeks. It's a very underrated experience."
"We'll try," Hermione said, giving Ethan a respectful nod.
As the trio headed down the stone steps toward the carriages, Ethan watched them go. He could feel the Elder Wand and the Cloak resonating in his inventory—two-thirds of a legend now sitting in his pocket.
"Two down," he muttered to himself. "Now, I just have to find a rock in a forest full of giant spiders and grumpy centaurs."
"Need a scout?" a voice teased from behind him.
Ethan turned to see Tonks, her hair a cheerful shade of yellow-green today. "I thought you were busy 'rebuilding the government,' Auror."
"The government can wait for an hour," she said, leaning against the pillar beside him. "The forest is dangerous, Williams. You might get lost without a local guide."
"Is that so?" Ethan grinned. "And what's the hourly rate for forest navigation?"
Tonks winked. "We'll negotiate the payment later. Let's go find your rock."
