Chapter 195: Umi Tends to Everyone’s Wounds
After venting her sadness, Umi wiped her tears with the back of her hand. Her expression shifted from despair to determination. She looked up at Ren.
"Ren-senpai. Our first aid kit... do we still have it? The one we usually bring for club activities?"
Frowning slightly, Ren was caught off guard by the girl’s sudden change in demeanor. "Why, Umi?"
"Because I’m not injured like the others." Umi replied, her gaze shifting to her friends lying on the ground. "I’ll take care of them. I’ve had first aid training, so I at least know what to do for minor injuries."
"I figured you’d ask about that. Yeah, I grabbed everything useful from the bus wreckage. We’re lucky—the first aid kit’s only slightly damaged."
Without another word, Ren stood and walked to the pile of salvaged items. Moments later, he returned with a medium-sized first aid kit, its surface dented and dirty but its contents intact. He handed it to Umi.
"Thanks, Senpai. You’re always reliable, no matter the situation."
Umi took the kit swiftly. With deft hands, she opened it and got to work.
She first approached Coach Takigawa. Carefully, she cleaned the dried blood on his head with antiseptic wipes, then bandaged the wound. She tried to stabilize his broken arm as best she could, searching for a small branch or hard object to use as a makeshift splint.
Next, she moved to Ryohei. Seeing his twisted leg, Umi swallowed hard. It was the most concerning injury. She couldn’t do much beyond stabilizing his leg’s position and providing light support to prevent further damage until help arrived.
Umi moved quickly from one person to the next. She carefully removed small glass shards from Minato’s hands and feet with tweezers, causing him to wince occasionally, then cleaned and bandaged his wounds.
For Seiya, Umi cleaned a gash on his temple and covered bruises on his chest and stomach with clean cloth, trying to offer some comfort.
