Cultivation: Immunity to Negative Effects

Chapter 342 - 332: Golden-winged Demon Bee

In truth, Zhang Chi couldn’t use this method repeatedly, or it would severely drain his Divine Thought Power.

For example, the sliver of Divine Thought Power currently possessing the Black Bear could only be transferred one final time before it dissipated completely.

This was only possible because Zhang Chi’s Divine Soul Essence was exceptionally powerful, making his Divine Thought incredibly dense.

Factoring in the toll on his main body, Zhang Chi hadn’t anticipated this situation. He had only left behind three portions of his Divine Thought Power: one each for his Corpse Puppet, his Spirit Beast, and his Tier Three Puppet.

In other words, with his main body absent, his remaining transfers were extremely limited.

But Zhang Chi wasn’t concerned.

Not including the Corpse Puppet, he could make at most three more transfers. ’That should be enough.’

In the days that followed, Zhang Chi controlled the Black Bear and infiltrated the Black Bear Nest.

It was, he had to admit, a peculiar sensation.

Zhang Chi could feel that this body was quite powerful. Still, compared to his own body or his Corpse Puppet, it was far inferior, even if they were all at the same Realm.

The Black Bear Nest, however, was an absolute sty, a complete waste of the treasured lands of the Pill and Artifact Sect.

But that was to be expected. After all, even if a black bear was a Demon Beast—and an ambitious one at that—it was still just an animal.

Fortunately, the Black Bear Zhang Chi possessed was Tier Three Low Grade. It held a respectable position within the Black Bear Race, but it was a reclusive cultivator that lived alone in a secluded cave.

Therefore, Zhang Chi simply cleaned out the cave, unconcerned about exposing himself.

But Zhang Chi had no intention of just lying low and cultivating. This Black Bear’s body had little potential, and he didn’t have much time to waste.

He first spent half a month familiarizing himself with his surroundings before finally taking action.

One night, he paid a special visit to a Tier Four Early Stage Black Bear. Using the language of his kind, he let out a few calls to report an important discovery.

The Tier Four Black Bear was busy gnawing on a white Demon Deer, which was somehow still alive.

"What? You found a swarm of Golden-winged Demon Bees? Are you sure?"

Upon hearing the news, the bear immediately swallowed the Demon Deer in one gulp and shot to its feet in excitement.

Its body towered over a hundred feet tall, completely eclipsing the firelight that illuminated its cave.

The Black Bear Zhang Chi possessed was also large, standing about fifty feet tall, but it was nothing compared to this Tier Four Black Bear.

"Yes. Unfortunately, there were too many Demon Bees for me to handle, so I had to come find you. If you can spare a little honey for me, I’ll take you there tomorrow." Zhang Chi wasn’t afraid in the slightest, but he put on a show of trembling fearfully.

Clearly, he was planning to switch his host body. This Tier Four Black Bear was his chosen target.

"Look!"

As he spoke, Zhang Chi produced the corpses of several Demon Bees.

The bees had black bodies and golden wings, each the size of a man’s palm. A faint pressure emanated from them. They were Golden-winged Demon Bees, a type of Tier Three Late Stage Demon Insect.

A single Golden-winged Demon Bee’s combat power was not high, but they were social creatures. When they swarmed, even a Tier Three Peak expert’s chances of survival were slim. Only a Tier Four being could withstand their assault, and even then, caution was necessary.

"Why wait until tomorrow? We go now!"

The moment the Tier Four Black Bear saw the corpses, its doubts vanished. It grabbed Zhang Chi and stormed out of the Pill and Artifact Sect’s ruins.

Zhang Chi was delighted, though not at all surprised.

These Demon Bears loved to eat honey, and the honey of Golden-winged Demon Bees was Upper Grade. To them, it was not just an unparalleled delicacy, but also a potent tonic.

Long-term consumption could significantly boost a Demon Bear’s Cultivation. Not even a Tier Four Demon Bear could resist such a temptation.

Besides, he had chosen this particular target because of its notorious gluttony.

And the Demon Bees were real. Otherwise, Zhang Chi couldn’t have produced their corpses.

He had, however, only just found this particular swarm in the last few days.

With his Turtle Shell Divination Skill, powerful Cultivation, and the help of his Spirit Beast, it hadn’t been difficult.

The Tier Four Demon Bear was overconfident and worried it would have to share the honey, so it hadn’t called for any other Tier Four backup.

Carrying Zhang Chi, the Tier Four Demon Bear rode a black demonic wind, quickly leaving the Pill and Artifact Sect far behind.

By the next morning, the bear had finally arrived outside a valley.

At the mouth of the valley, the bear discovered a vast expanse of colorful wildflowers wafting a myriad of fragrances.

Many of them were even at the Spirit Medicine Level. Though they were only Tiers One and Two at best, their sheer numbers were impressive.

Hundreds of Demon Bees buzzed among the flowers.

Deeper in the valley were even more Demon Bees, a towering, unfamiliar tree, and hanging from its branches, a golden hive the size of a house.

’They really are Golden-winged Demon Bees! And there are more than I expected, at a higher Level, too. If I can control this swarm, I’ll have an endless supply of honey.’

’Besides, these bees are powerful. They’ll make a fine weapon.’

The Demon Bear’s Divine Thought swept across the area, and it was overcome with joy.

But it didn’t act rashly. Instead, it immediately prepared to call for backup.

It had discovered that a large number of the bees were at Tier Three Peak; the Tier Three Late Stage ones were only a small fraction of the swarm.

Against such a force, even it had no confidence.

It didn’t suspect Zhang Chi of any foul play, however, because the Demon Bees outside the valley were indeed of a lower Level.

The Black Bear Zhang Chi possessed had a low Cultivation. In its view, it was perfectly normal for such a weakling to misjudge the situation.

BUZZ BUZZ...

But just then, every Demon Bee in and around the valley froze mid-flight. An instant later, they all hurtled with incredible speed toward the Demon Bear’s hiding spot.

’What’s happening? This is bad!’

The Demon Bear was shocked and turned to flee.

As it fled, it didn’t forget about Zhang Chi. It snatched him up and threw him directly at the approaching swarm.

But for some reason, the Demon Bees completely ignored Zhang Chi, continuing their charge toward the Tier Four Demon Bear.

The Demon Bees were incredibly fast. In the blink of an eye, the Demon Bear was completely engulfed, as if trapped in the eye of a massive storm.

ROAR!

The Demon Bear let out a deafening roar. A massive wave of Sound Waves swept through the area, and bees immediately began to plummet from the sky.

But more Demon Bees instantly filled the gaps.

The bees from the hive seemed endless, pouring out like a tide to join the fight.

Even the bees that had been stunned quickly recovered, returning to the fight with even greater ferocity.

The Demon Bear’s roar, however, seemed to consume a vast amount of Demonic Power, and it couldn’t be used again so soon.

Seeing as the attack had been largely ineffective, the Demon Bear immediately switched tactics. It opened its mouth and spewed a jet of black Demon Fire.

This time, Demon Bees were actually incinerated. Many more had their wings catch fire, sending them spiraling to the ground.

But the remaining Demon Bees were not to be trifled with. They flapped their wings in unison, and countless Wind Blades converged into a golden hurricane, which instantly shredded and extinguished the black Demon Fire.

Helpless, the Demon Bear could only spit out a black Demon Pill the size of a human head, which began to circle around it.

The Demon Pill’s surface blazed with an even more violent and continuous black flame, which finally managed to temporarily fend off the attack.

Protected by its Demon Pill, the Demon Bear immediately charged into the distance.

After all, no matter how powerful the Demon Pill was, its protective range was limited.

The moment the Demon Fire strayed too far from the Demon Pill, it would weaken and be extinguished, so this couldn’t solve the fundamental problem.

If this continued, its Demonic Power would soon be exhausted, yet the swarm of Demon Bees seemed endless.

Its only option was to escape!

But the Demon Bees clearly had no intention of letting it go. Their sheer numbers formed a physical barrier, quickly blocking the Demon Bear’s path in every direction.

At the same time, the Demon Pill’s power was being rapidly consumed, and its light began to dim.

Some bees even started to slip through the defenses, striking the Demon Bear’s body directly.

The Demon Bear’s hide was tough and reinforced by Protective Demonic Power, but the stings were still excruciatingly painful, and a numbness spread from each wound.

Clearly, the Demon Bees were venomous.

The Demon Bear was filled with rage and despair. It even considered detonating its Demon Pill to take them all down with it.

"Over here!"

Just then, the call of another bear suddenly came from below.

The voice came from the Demon Bear possessed by Zhang Chi. To the Tier Four Demon Bear, it was the sweetest sound it had ever heard.

It then spotted a hole in the ground below, the source of the voice.

Without a second thought, it desperately charged downward. It saw Zhang Chi’s head poke out of the hole, and for some reason, the surrounding Demon Bees momentarily hesitated.

Overjoyed, the Demon Bear dove into the hole, discovering it was a tunnel leading far into the distance.

"You go first! I’ll hold them off! Remember to have our leader avenge me!"

The Demon Bear was about to use Zhang Chi as bait again—this time, it even planned to kill him in the process—when Zhang Chi suddenly shouted this.

"Fine!"

The Demon Bear paused, stunned. It didn’t strike. Instead, without a backward glance, it bolted deep into the tunnel.

A ready-made tunnel was much faster than something like Earth Escape. In no time, it had left the Demon Bees and the valley far behind, emerging in an unfamiliar mountain forest.

No Demon Bees followed it into the tunnel. Zhang Chi hadn’t appeared either. The bear didn’t know if he was dead or just too slow.

BOOM!

The Demon Bear didn’t wait. It lifted its foot and stomped hard, causing the tunnel to collapse.

Still not satisfied, it used the Demon Pill still circling its body to violently bombard the ground.

This made it even more impossible for the Demon Bees to catch up. Even if they could use their golden hurricane to blast through the collapsed tunnel, it would certainly take them time.

As for whether Zhang Chi lived or died, it couldn’t care less.

In fact, it hoped Zhang Chi was dead. If not for him, it never would have ended up in this mess.

WHOOSH!

But just as it was about to recall its Demon Pill and leave, the surrounding space suddenly vibrated violently.

Then, waves of dazzling golden Spiritual Light erupted from the ground, rapidly forming a profound Grand Array that enveloped and isolated both the bear and its Demon Pill.

This was the Tier Four Gold Fiend Gale Array, which Zhang Chi had set up here in advance, just waiting for the Demon Bear.

’This is bad!’

The Demon Bear was terrified. It roared in anger and charged left and right, but its struggles were futile.

It couldn’t even recall its Demon Pill.

The Demon Pill was being directly suppressed by the array, suffering a fierce bombardment from golden Wind Blades generated by the formation.

In the next instant, a Corpse Puppet and a Flying Spirit Beast appeared in the sky outside the Grand Array.

The two had been waiting for a long time. They immediately began spewing a massive amount of Corpse Evil and toxic fog toward the Grand Array.
