Cultivation: Immunity to Negative Effects

Chapter 339 - 330: Secret Technique and Ruins

After returning to his cave residence, Zhang Chi immediately took out the Jade Scroll and began to study it.

In just half a day, he had completely comprehended the Magic within. He finally understood why both the Sect Leader and City Lord Wu had called it unremarkable.

The Magic was actually quite wondrous. Cultivating and using it truly allowed one to control Puppets, Corpse Puppets, and other similar entities with precision from extremely long distances.

However, the Magic had one major requirement and one significant drawback.

The requirement was that the Cultivator’s Divine Soul had to be sufficiently powerful.

The drawback was just as City Lord Wu had described.

Severing a portion of one’s Divine Soul was inherently damaging to the Divine Soul itself.

Furthermore, if the Puppet or other vessel housing the severed Divine Soul was destroyed, that portion of the Divine Soul would dissipate along with it. The user’s main body would be severely affected as a result, either dying or suffering grievous injury.

For Zhang Chi, however, this requirement and drawback were non-issues.

First, his Divine Soul was more than powerful enough.

Second, the Jade Pendant in his sea of consciousness could most likely nullify the damage and negative effects of severing his Divine Soul.

Even if that fragment of Divine Soul shattered, his main body wouldn’t be harmed, let alone die.

Still, just to be safe, Zhang Chi immediately communicated with the Jade Pendant to confirm this.

It turned out that after he advanced to the Nascent Soul realm, the Jade Pendant had gained another function, in addition to its Level cap increasing and its ability to turn emerald green.

This new function allowed him to communicate with it through his thoughts to determine if certain negative effects could be absorbed, or in other words, nullified.

This was something Zhang Chi had discovered by chance in the past two years.

The moment Zhang Chi communicated with the Jade Pendant, a clear understanding washed over him: it could be nullified.

So, Zhang Chi immediately began his Cultivation.

He first ran a simulation in the Dream Space and was surprised to find that his Divine Soul was rather unique; it was impossible to sever.

However, he could sever a portion of his Divine Thought to use in place of his Divine Soul.

Furthermore, it wouldn’t take long for this portion of Divine Thought to be fully restored through his Refining God Skill.

Moreover, just as he suspected, even if the severed Divine Thought dissipated, it would have no effect on his main body.

With that confirmed, he immediately performed the Magic in the real world.

CRACK!

In that instant, it felt as if his Divine Thought had been struck by an invisible blade, and a large section was instantly severed.

He then continued to cast the spell, and this severed piece of Divine Thought was quickly implanted into the Corpse Puppet.

He took out a Tier Three Peak Puppet and tried the same thing, finding that it worked as well.

The process was somewhat similar to the Refinement of a Puppet.

However, the connection between them was remote, allowing him to observe and act through the Puppet even from an extremely far distance.

Furthermore, this was completely different from the legendary Split Body Technique.

The Puppet was merely a remote tool for him; it could not think for itself.

The severed Divine Thought remained under his control, so there was no possibility of it developing a separate consciousness.

This Magic could even be used on a Spirit Beast, essentially allowing his consciousness to control it.

Of course, this was on the condition that the Spirit Beast belonged to him and wouldn’t resist.

The situation with the Corpse Puppet was similar.

However, a Corpse Puppet’s intelligence was relatively simple, making it easier to control.

Things like Magical Treasure Flying Swords, however, would not work.

After all, Magical Treasures required not only Divine Thought to activate but also the support of Magical Power, and they could even consume the Power of the Divine Soul.

Zhang Chi made a few more calculations and discovered that because his Divine Soul was so powerful, the severed Divine Thought, when empowered by this Magic, could last for a full hundred years.

"Good. I’ve finally solved a major problem."

Having figured everything out, Zhang Chi couldn’t help but feel delighted.

He then controlled the Corpse Puppet, had it take some Magical Treasures and Spirit Beasts, and left Canglan Oasis.

He himself remained in his cave residence, essentially multitasking in a way that didn’t affect his Cultivation at all.

If he withdrew his focus, the Corpse Puppet would continue to act according to his last commands, but it might not be able to make the right decisions when faced with more complex situations.

Even so, this was far better than an ordinary Puppet.

Of course, his Puppets were at most Tier Three Peak, and the Level of his Spirit Beasts was lower than the Corpse Puppet’s, so he didn’t have many other options.

This time, although the Corpse Puppet could be disguised as a Cultivator, Zhang Chi did not choose to have it travel by Floating Airship.

For one, the Corpse Puppet didn’t need to cultivate normally.

For another, the Corpse Puppet was now at Tier Four Middle Stage, equivalent to a Nascent Soul Middle Stage Cultivator. Since it could wield Magical Treasures, flying directly through the Nine Heavens Gang Wind Layer would obviously be faster.

Moreover, the Nine Heavens Gang Wind Layer was vast, so the probability of encountering other Nascent Soul Cultivators or Demon Beasts was extremely low.

Two years passed in the blink of an eye. The Corpse Puppet finally arrived near the Golden Wind Oasis once more.

Of course, it was only passing by this time, so Zhang Chi had the Corpse Puppet go take a look.

The Corpse Puppet went directly to the Golden Wind Oasis and its subordinate, the Qin Mountain Oasis, for a quick tour. It also used the Mind Confusion Technique on some Low Tier Cultivators and easily obtained the information it sought.

Since it had been over a century since Zhang Chi had last occupied Qin Mountain Oasis, the oasis had long since become the territory of the Immortal Cultivation Shen Family in the most recent struggle for control.

This was the same Shen Family to which Shen Jianping belonged.

Decades ago, Qin Mountain Oasis had been jointly controlled by the Shen and Lang Families. The Shang Family was also on the oasis, and although they were no longer the Masters of the Oasis, they still received preferential treatment.

In fact, the Shang Family was still on Qin Mountain Oasis to this day, but they no longer received any special treatment.

Furthermore, the Shang Family was still just a Foundation Establishment Clan. Shang Deyi was still alive, but he only had a Foundation Establishment Late Stage Cultivation.

As for Shen Jianping, he was rumored to still be at Golden Core Peak. He had only shown his face during the last competition and was now likely still out searching for opportunities and gathering Nascent Soul Materials.
