The atmosphere in the living room fell into a brief stagnation; no one had expected Yin Manqing to refuse.
After all, this was something she had dreamed of in the past.
Jiang Zhenghong looked at her in disbelief; even Old Sir had given in, why was she being stubborn?
Old Sir Jiang looked at Yin Manqing and saw her resolute face, asking, "You don’t want to?"
Without thinking, Yin Manqing replied, "I don’t!"
Jiang Zhenghong finally couldn’t hold it any longer and shouted, "Manqing!"
Yin Manqing turned her head to glance at him, her eyes devoid of any warmth, and said indifferently: "Mr. Jiang, thank you for your care over the years, but I feel I’m not suited for the position of Mrs. Jiang. You should find someone more suitable."
Jiang Zhenghong looked at her indifferent brows and eyes, his enthusiastic heart instantly chilled.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something.
At this moment, a hesitant female voice sounded at the door, "Am I... am I coming at a bad time?"
Everyone turned to look and saw Li Wan standing at the door, looking timidly at the people in the hall, as if she had done something wrong.
Yin Manqing stared at Li Wan for a long time; although this woman looked somewhat old, her features seemed familiar.
As she was scrutinizing Li Wan, Li Wan was also scrutinizing her.
When she saw Yin Manqing, her eyes were full of surprise, looking as though she couldn’t believe it.
This made Yin Manqing even more curious about her identity.
Li Wan, under her gaze, became nervous and withdrew her eyes, looking at Jiang Zhenghong, saying, "Zhenghong, I just came to see Wen Hao. I’ll go upstairs first."
Qiu Shuyun glanced at her, then at Yin Manqing, laughing: "Sister Li, Wen Hao is your son; it’s natural for you to come and see him. Who could stop you?"
Li Wan gave an embarrassed smile and said nothing, but her gaze flicked to Jiang Zhenghong, waiting for his permission.
Jiang Zhenghong’s eyes showed a trace of impatience, and he nodded.
Yin Manqing glanced at the two, instantly understanding. No wonder she seemed so familiar; it turned out to be the former Mrs. Jiang.
Li Wan, under the gaze of everyone, fled upstairs in a hurry, quickly disappearing at the corner.
Jiang Zhenghong watched her go, and his gaze inadvertently fell on Yin Manqing, who was looking at him mockingly.
He suddenly realized she might have misunderstood something and hurriedly said, "Manqing, it’s not what you think!"
"It doesn’t matter," Yin Manqing said flatly, her gaze falling on Qiu Shuyun. "Since Jing Heng doesn’t pursue you, I won’t say anything either, but I hope you take heed and don’t let it happen again."
Qiu Shuyun glared at her, a flash of resentment in her eyes.
The matter concluded, and naturally Yin Manqing wouldn’t stay at the Jiang Family any longer; she turned to leave.
Jiang Zhenghong originally wanted to chase after her, but with the elders and juniors all present, he couldn’t bring himself to be as shameless as the young ones.
Jiang Jingheng went out the main door, ready to get his car, only to see Yin Manqing standing by the car.
He opened the car door, looked at her, and said indifferently, "Anything?"
"Jing Heng, there’s no need for you to let Qiu Shuyun go for my sake. She won’t be grateful to you," Yin Manqing said solemnly.
Of course, she couldn’t deny that she was pleased. It was the first time he had spoken for her; did this mean that their mother-son relationship had eased?
"I’m not doing it for you."
"Hmm?" Yin Manqing looked at him in surprise.
Jiang Jingheng looked at her, his gaze cold, "I just don’t want to owe you anything."
After he spoke, he got into the car, closed the door, stepped on the accelerator, and the car sped away.
Yin Manqing stood in place, watching the car disappear, her heart feeling as cold as ice.
