Danmachi: The Magic Grandmaster

Chapter 42: Flight magic development

Sion looked at Riveria. He stood up, took a bound manuscript from a nearby cabinet, handed it to her, "This is your reward for helping out this time."

"What is this?" Riveria took it and asked, flipping through the dense pages.

"The congenital magic system that I created."

Sion's words made Riveria freeze. She stared hesitantly at the manuscript in her hands before finally closing it and looking up at Sion. "Is this not too precious?"

"Preciousness is determined by people," Sion shook his head and said. "I'm just one person. It'd be wonderful to have someone walking this same path alongside me."

"Furthermore, Riveria, I trust your character and your talent. If possible, I hope we can become fellow mages in the pursuit of magic."

Sion was just one person. He could explore new stuff, but he could not be the sole architect of an entire magic system. Only through dissemination could it truly develop and evolve.

It was a universal rule that knowledge should not be passed on lightly, but he knew Riveria's character.

Is that all?

Riveria was slightly taken aback by his reasoning.

"Of course, that is just one reason," Sion smiled and added. "Congenital magic is a discipline I'll spread to the world sooner or later, because achieving that is a great deed in itself."

A Great deed did not necessarily require ranking up and defeating powerful monsters. As long as one accomplished something enough to amaze even the gods, the world would recognize it as a great deed.

For example: creating an entirely new magic system, achieving the impossible like forging a divine weapon or achieving remarkable results in heroic battles.

Moreover, Sion was not some ascetic guy who could completely disregard his reputation.

He was still a man and naturally, he wanted his achievements to be recognized and praised.

Then when he gets the falna, it'll be easier to accumulate great deeds.

"However, now is not the time to publicize this knowledge, so please don't spread it to the outside world for the time being," Sion requested.

Upon hearing his words, Riveria nodded solemnly and swore, "I swear upon my name that I will not pass this knowledge on to anyone else without your permission."

"There is no need to take it so seriously," Sion chuckled. "Besides that, I actually have another project I need your help with."

"You?" Alfia looked at Sion, her brows raised. "You don't want me?"

"Ofcours, I need your help too," Sion nodded, and then activated his spell.

Enveloped in a glowing light, Sion bent his knees slightly before leaping up.

Despite possessing the basic abilities of a level 1 adventurer with stats hovering around a mere 200, Sion bounded into the air as if completely weightless, and then drifted back down.

"As you can see, the spell I am currently developing is an Enchantment magic: Flight."

Hearing Sion's words, Alfia's expression changed dramatically.

She stared intensely at Sion. Feeling the weight of her gaze, Sion met her eyes evenly. The two looked at each other in silence for a long time before Alfia finally spoke.

"The Hera Familia owes you a massive favor."

Both Riveria and Meteria suddenly realized.

Unlike the incredibly difficult and highly specialized Imprint array cluster, helping him perfect flight magic was essentially helping themselves and potentially the entire world.

Orario severely lacked aerial combat capabilities. They had to rely on rare expensive magic items, or flying monsters tamed by the Ganesha familia.

Each method had flaws and limited operational power. Therefore, the strategic value of a universal flight magic that anyone with sufficient Mind control could learn was immeasurable.

It could not merely be described as having extremely high value.

It was utterly priceless.

This was especially true for the Zeus and Hera Familias, who were preparing to challenge the dragon.

"Mhm." Sion nodded, then added, "Once this spell is fully developed, I also have some matters I wish to discuss with the Hera familia executives."

Although Sion was not an adventurer, the sheer value of the innovations he had demonstrated was more than enough to allow him to communicate on an equal footing with the absolute strongest Familia in the world.

After all, they were not enemies, they were practically family. Once this relationship was established, it was only natural for him to seek formal recognition from his bride's family.

And now, Sion had already managed to win over Alfia.

"Leave the arrangements to me," Alfia nodded firmly.

The two familias crusade to subjugate the black dragon was unstoppable. This was the ancient oath sworn between the gods and the gekkai, also known as the time of the covenant.

Moreover, armed with the world's strongest adventurers and the fact that two of the three great quests had already been successfully completed, the confidence of the two familias had reached its peak.

Even if Sion attempted to dissuade them, it would be utterly futile.

All he could realistically do was try to increase their survivability before the expedition.

His ultimate goal was to prevent the total annihilation of Meteria's family and spare her from unbearable grief.

In addition to aerial mobility, defensive capabilities were paramount. Sion already had several theories in this regard.

Once flight spell was fully operational, he would pivot to developing advanced defensive spells.

A cautious mindset paired with magic abilities covering flight, absolute defense, and instantaneous movement would be his survival strategy.

With these capabilities, even if they could not defeat that dragon, they could at least preserve their core fighting force and retreat safely.

For now, however they needed to seize the moment and complete the research on ss.

More than ten days passed in the blink of an eye.

Integrating the complex properties of Enchantment magic into a stable flight formula proved to be much more troublesome than expected.

Even with the combined intellect of the three of them, it took a monumental amount of effort to finally stabilize.

[A/N: Riveria would be in the harem.]
