Danmachi: The Magic Grandmaster

Chapter 154: I can't see through him

Riveria nodded then introduced her companion, "This is Aina Tulle, my closest friend."

"Oh no, I'm merely Lady Riveria's attendant," Aina murmured softly, a light blush dusting her cheeks.

She was a woman with soft brown hair carrying a gentle almost meek aura, though her complexion appeared slightly pale.

Long before Riveria ever became an adventurer, Aina had served as her loyal attendant, a bond forged when they were both young.

In truth, Aina was roughly the same age as Riveria, meaning their friendship spanned at least seventy years.

"Ahem..."

After offering her greeting, she covered her mouth with a soft cough and gave an apologetic look. "Forgive me."

"It's quite alright," Sion replied gently.

"It appears to be a respiratory infection. Your health seems somewhat fragile."

"A respiratory infection?" Riveria repeated, her attention caught as she asked with concern.

Ever since they had departed their home, Aina's health had steadily deteriorated.

Riveria had grown worried over time, yet found herself helpless to fix it.

Healing arts in this world generally fell into distinct categories, mending physical wounds, restoring stamina and mind, purging poisons or lifting curses.

While detoxification magic might offer mild relief for lung ailments, it had no genuine ability to eliminate pathogens.

"Viruses exist alongside living beings, present everywhere just like the air we breathe," Sion explained.

"A healthy body builds natural immunity against them but those with weakened defenses easily succumb to illness."

"Respiratory infections are caused by microscopic viruses and bacteria."

"While standard detoxification and restoration magic can provide temporary relief, they cannot target the underlying cause directly."

Sion did his best to simplify the concept for Riveria. "The most effective way to cure such illnesses is to bolster the body's strength so it can fight off afflictions."

All beings coexisted with microscopic organisms.

While spirit differed in nature, elves have physical forms as beings, leaving them susceptible to the same frailties.

Though Sion remained a human, his body no longer harbored such microscopic organisms.

His regulation magic maintained his physical form in peak condition, leaving him entirely untouched by external environment.

Thanks to his specialized skills, his state remained perfectly preserved against aging or decay.

While others had to constantly strive to maintain their physical condition, Sion never had to worry about slipping backward.

Naturally, even puppets whose souls were bound into physical forms harbored minor physical impurities.

"Such tiny things truly exist?" Riveria looked clearly shocked.

Disease was practically unheard of among seasoned adventurers.

Thanks to their high stats and physical fortitude, high level adventurers frequently unlocked abnormal resistance as a development ability.

A simple virus posed no threat to them, for even deadly toxins capable of dissolving body within seconds failed to harm anyone having abnormal resistance.

The ability granted immunity to far more than just common poisons.

"You can ask Loki if you wish," Sion said with a smile.

"Though she is no healer, the deities have deep knowledge regarding the fundamental nature of the lower world."

Deities, after all, having immaculate forms.

Every inhabitant of heaven, from gods to divine spirits existed in a state of absolute purity.

That was precisely why so many deities viewed the lower world as impure compared to heaven.

Sion reasoned that heaven itself likely existed as a domain of purity.

"If one were to observe life on a microscopic level, it becomes clear that human existence relies on coexisting with these organisms," Sion explained further.

Hearing his explanation sent a shiver down Riveria's spine.

Did that mean her own physical form was filled with invisible creatures?

'Perhaps this line of thought is a bit overwhelming for elves,' Sion mused internally having briefly forgotten how obsessive elves were regarding cleanliness.

After all, Riveria had never shown any such aversion around him.

"Once the banquet concludes, I can help treat her condition," Sion offered.

"Thank you, please do," Riveria murmured as a faint blush touched her cheeks.

Though she felt somewhat embarrassed to accept yet another favor from him, she could not turn it down when Aina's health was involved.

Afterward, Sion moved through the hall to greet other guests.

He encountered many figures he recognized from the anime, though most were still far from their future strength.

Ottar was currently level four, Finn and Gareth were level three and Tsubaki was level two.

Hermes who spent much of his time traveling outside Orario had also returned.

His familia captain was not yet Asfi, as the young princess of the maritime kingdom had only recently been coaxed into joining his journey.

But Hermes had arrived back in Orario some time ago, though Sion had not met him until now.

Given his penchant for dramatic spectacles, a momentous event like the battle against the dragon was something Hermes could never resist witnessing.

"So, what do you think?" Loki asked softly, sitting beside Freya as they conversed in quiet tones.

The two goddesses maintained a surprisingly close relationship during this period, offering each other a sense of mutual comfort amidst the city's shifting balance of power.

In the anime, it would take another eight years before Astraea found a place within their circle.

Now, however, thanks to Sion, Astraea had risen to the peak of Orario shortly after descending, earning the subtle envy of both Loki and Freya.

"I can't see through him," Freya replied with a helpless shake of her head. "The attire the boy wears have the power to shield his soul."

"My eyes cannot penetrate it. It seems he remains quite guarded against us gods."
