Danmachi: The Magic Grandmaster

Chapter 152: Ais's confusion

Now the energy contained within unit zero one could probably create two dragons.

After running a few quick calculations Sion stared expectantly at the sphere of light floating before him.

"An aura of chaos has its fundamental origin shifted?" Sion whispered under his breath.

The mind of puppets differed from the mind in monster magic stones.

Their root was far more independent though their aura still closely resembled that of humans.

Yet this sphere of light stood apart.

The mine and life force inside carried a distinct taint different from monsters.

This meant that while the dragon created by Sion might have a natural affinity for combat it would not necessarily harbor a desire for slaughter and destruction.

"What is that?"

Ais paused her sword practice stepping closer to ask.

"Do you remember my skill dragon eater?" Sion asked.

"I used a puppet to absorb the soul of the black dragon using its power to turn into a dragon."

Ais blinked.

Hearing that the sphere of light was a dragon drew a subtle shift in her expression but her reaction remained subdued.

"Emerge Tohru."

Sion felt a quiet sense of relief.

As his voice echoed out the light gave way to a dragon standing in the middle of the training ground.

Though tall and imposing it appeared far more adorable than fearsome lacking the menacing aura of the black dragon.

After all Sion had designed the dragons physical form himself.

Balancing a cute aesthetic with a fierce demeanor did nothing to dull her combat capabilities.

"A dragon," Ais muttered her fingers tightening around the hilt of her sword yet she made no further movement.

The light burst forth once more and Tohru shifted into a human shape her shimmering scales morphing into a tailored maid uniform fitting snugly against her body.

She gently shook her head adjusting to her new form.

Dragon horns sprouted from her head and a tail swayed gently behind her back giving her an adorable appearance.

"Master," Tohru greeted offering a refined curtsy.

A genuine happy smile rested on her face completely devoid of any dullness or mindless emptiness.

Seeing this Sion knew his spell had reached an even greater height.

"Welcome to this world," Sion chuckled softly reaching out to pat Tohru's head. "The future belongs to us so lets make this world a better place."

"As you command my lord," Tohru replied while narrowing her eyes happily as she leaned into his touch.

"I'll leave the gathering of magic stones to you."

"Head into the dungeon," Sion said.

Having received Sions instructions Tohru who could not yet tap into her full power due to a lack of energy, departed for the dungeon.

Unlike true beings such as Raiden, Tohru lacked the power of elemental transformation but she had a comparable alternative through AT field.

In truth, AT field was an ability shared by every puppet whereas elemental transformation remained a talent unique to true beings.

Ever since Sion got falna, such feats had become simple for him.

A body reinforced by soul matter served as an energy vessel capable of high speed movement beyond simply hosting elemental powers.

Furthermore the energy within Tohru lacked any defined attribute requiring her own growth to guide its evolution.

Sion had intentionally left this open curious to observe the potential trajectory of his puppets.

Even so considering her genetic factors and the materials Sion had invested.

Tohru would most likely develop affinities for fire and poison.

Combining those traits into an energy system boasting that seemed like a fascinating prospect.

"Are you feeling uneasy?" Sion asked crouching down to look at Ais after Tohru departed.

"A little uncomfortable," Ais replied softly.

"That's understandable considering your long standing grudge against dragons," Sion said. "That discomfort stems from lingering anger."

"Conflicts between humans are no less brutal than those between humans and monsters yet you would not direct your hatred of humanity because of a few bad actors would you?"

"I..." Ais parted her lips at a loss for words.

Her instincts told her the comparison was flawed.

Monsters were monsters and people were people.

How could anyone compare mindless monsters to human beings?

Ais had been shielded for much of her life never having experienced the human society which made such concepts difficult to understand.

Having the subtle ability to read the thoughts of others, Sion understood her confusion.

"A monsters desires are driven purely by bloodlust yet human malice can far surpass a monsters cruelty," he explained.

"Goodness can reach great heights while evil can sink to horrific depths."

"That instability and potential is what defines humanity."

"If a monster gains human intelligence or a human exhibits the savagery of a monster."

"How do you judge good and evil then?"

"You must learn to discern true malice using your own judgment."

"With me guarding the dungeon now and learning how to deal with humans is an essential step for you."

"I don't understand," Ais said after a long silence shaking her head in lingering confusion.
