Chapter 138: Crazy Sion
"What justice is there in your slaying of the dragon and defending the dungeon?"
Astrea didn't end the conversation because her curiosity hadn't been satisfied.
Even though Sion said that, she still hadn't dismissed him from her mind.
Although his answer didn't meet her expectations, it didn't mean the conversation had to end right away.
"This is justice against an external threat," Sion smiled and spoke.
"External?" Astrea asked.
"Everyone has a different understanding of justice. Based on that, I have my own definition of whether every event and action is just."
Sion spoke smoothly. "My selfish reason for attacking the dragon was to eliminate the danger in advance and protect Alfia."
Hearing this, Alfia felt her expression change slightly.
"But isn't this kind of selfishness also a form of justice?"
"The defeat of the dragon means one less ancient monster poses a threat, which is a great deed for humanity and also a noble act."
Naturally, Sion should be celebrated for it.
"Because I had the ability, I did it, therefore it's justice."
"What a casual sense of justice," Astrea remarked. "But it's based solely on self awareness, which happens to fit the definition, doesn't it?"
To others, his campaign against the dragon was a noble act.
For Sion himself, defeating the dragon was a just act, and humanity should be grateful to him and sing his praises.
His intentions regarding the campaign against the dragon weren't inherently pure.
He had a strong belief in his own goals and was capable of doing many good things, but his attachment to the concept of justice itself was weak.
Normally it was one thing, but if it came down to fundamental issues, justice was something he could discard at will.
This was normal. Yes, it was entirely human.
His thoughts weren't much different from ordinary people. The biggest difference was that Sion understood this, and his goals were explicitly clear.
It was a kind of justice that wasn't confused or hesitant, but exceptionally decisive and flexible.
His priorities weren't justice, but self interest, which differed from Astrea and her views.
The concept of a ruling god implied a congenital ability to adapt to rules and a life primarily focused on them. Based on this premise, Sion should've been rejected.
But his clear stance also sparked another idea in her mind.
Even though justice itself wasn't his core belief, his numerous actions conformed to the public definition of it.
So, was he a just person?
If a villain did good deeds his whole life, was he a good person?
If a good person did bad things all their life, were they still a good person?
This concept wasn't just defined on earth, it also existed in the gekkai.
In the anime, Zard and Alfia took on the goal of saving the world and acted as an extreme evil after their defeat in the battle against the dragon.
The downfall of the heroes was a fact, the disaster they brought to Orario was a fact, and their actions to save the world were also a fact.
So, were they good people?
They were already prepared to become evil, and Zard himself had no intention of washing away his sins.
Evil was evil, and what had been done was done.
To call it a justified evil was an insult and they would never admit it themselves.
"In the end, my views can still be called justice, but I'm not obsessed with it. It all depends on what you think, goddess Astrea."
Sion shrugged and spoke casually.
"One last question."
Astrea took a deep breath and asked, "I'd like to know your plans for the future."
Without a doubt, Sion didn't fit the definition of the goddess of justice for her own familia, because his justice wasn't pure.
Sion was less a noble hero and more a domineering king.
However, his understanding of justice created a sense of conflict in Astrea, making her unwilling to give up on him.
Astrea wouldn't feign compliance just because of his abilities.
Their differing beliefs would inevitably lead to conflict in the future.
Even at this point, Astrea still hadn't given up, which meant she was willing to accept his ideas.
"The dungeon will continue to run rampant, and I'll guard it until it ceases to be a threat."
Sion spoke. "In this process, I'll establish a factory in Orario, research magic items and improve the productivity of the entire world."
"We'll jointly create a commercial familia that can sell goods all over the world, thereby ensuring human survival and improving human living standards."
"I'll gather prestige and strength to become the true king of Orario, then set my sights on the world and vie for supremacy."
"I'll launch a war of great unification, unite the power of all mankind and become the king of mankind."
It sounded fine at first but things started to sound wrong as he went on.
Not only Astrea but even Alfia and Elsa couldn't help the twitch.
Sion would become the king of Orario sooner or later.
But his desire to unite the power of all humanity to truly centralize power and to vie for supremacy didn't seem like a noble act.
