Chapter 85 85: The Golden Compass and the Sheep Giant
Happy Sheep's group found the thickest part of the flower sea. Here the Qiq i flowers had swallowed every blade of grass, but the ancient trees still stood tall. The flowers could choke out herbs, but they couldn't kill real trees—not yet.
"Finally found the roots," Boiling Sheep said. "But there's no way down. How the hell do we burn them out from underground?"
Happy Sheep pulled a small pill from his pouch. "Village Chief gave me this before we left. One growth pill. Turns us into Sheep Giants for three minutes. After that we shrink back."
Boiling Sheep puffed out his chest. "I'll take it!"
"No," Beautiful Sheep said. "Give it to Warm Sheep. She's the strongest. Mixed blood or not, nobody in the village can match her strength."
Happy Sheep nodded and handed the pill to their squad leader.
Warm Sheep took it without a word, swallowed, and began to grow.
She rose like a living mountain—over a hundred meters tall, then closer to two hundred. The others and the three baby dragons clung to her head like insects while she walked toward the heart of the flower sea. Every step shook the ground.
"Pull the roots!" Happy Sheep shouted.
Warm Sheep's voice boomed like thunder. "Hold on tight!"
She reached down, grabbed the massive root system, and heaved. The flowers screamed as they were torn from the earth. But the roots ran deep—thousands of meters down. They would need wildfire to finish the job.
While the giants fought above, Daenerys dreamed.
A boy she didn't know rode a giant bear through a blizzard. Behind him came an army of armored bears—bigger than direwolves—following their king into battle. Snowballs rolled across the ice, growing larger until they became corpses, both living and dead, impossible to tell apart.
A girl appeared beside the boy, golden compass in one hand and a strange black steel tube in the other. The boy drew a knife, cut his palm, and fired the tube like a weapon. Screams tore through the storm.
"We can't hold!" the girl shouted. "We have to fall back to Bear Island!"
"Truth compass says hope is still here," the boy answered. "We're not dying today. Move!"
Daenerys woke drenched in sweat.
"Khaleesi!" her handmaids rushed in. "Another nightmare?"
"Get Ser Jorah. Now."
When Jorah arrived—still in simple clothes and holding a small rattle for baby Rhaenys—Daenerys sat up straight.
"Bear Island. Is that your family's home? Do giant bears live there? A whole bear clan? Do you have children?"
Jorah smiled faintly and shook the rattle once for the baby before handing it off.
"Bear Island sits off the northern coast. Yes, armored bears live there—bigger than direwolves. My family carries bear blood, the same way the Starks carry wolf blood and your house carries dragon blood. I have no children of my own, but I have cousins."
Daenerys leaned forward. "What about a golden compass? And a black steel tube that fires like a weapon?"
Jorah thought for a long moment.
"The golden compass sounds like something sailors and pirates use at sea. The black tube… I've never heard of anything like that."
