Chapter 59 59: The Witch of Sheep Village
Daenerys settled into Sheep Village and let the sheep midwives examine her. The lead midwife, an older ewe with steady hands, finished her checks and spoke plainly.
"Princess, you're not like us sheep folk or the horse lords. Your blood runs high—dragon blood. Your child will take longer to come. Twelve moons, not ten."
Daenerys rested a hand on her swollen belly. Two extra months. She could bear that. The midwife smiled and continued.
"We'll set up proper prenatal care. And we're assigning you guards who'll stay close. Beautiful Sheep, Warm Sheep—come in."
The door opened. Two female sheep stepped through.
Beautiful Sheep had clearly taken time with her appearance. Small pink bows sat on her horns, a soft pink scarf wrapped her neck, and her cheeks glowed rosy above bright, sparkling eyes. Warm Sheep stood taller and broader, brown horns framing a strong face, thick white wool covering a plump, powerful frame. A rose-red bow sat at her throat, a tiny heart-shaped pink bag hung at her hip, and she wore simple red shoes built for walking.
"Princess Daenerys," the midwife said, "this is Beautiful Sheep and Warm Sheep. Beautiful Sheep knows beauty—any kind. She weaves, she designs, she understands food that keeps a body strong and skin clear. Warm Sheep is the strongest here, stronger than Boiling Sheep. She's training as a nurse under Slow Sheep. They'll watch over you and keep you company."
Both sheep bowed their heads.
"Princess," they said together.
Daenerys smiled back. "Thank you. Both of you."

One warm afternoon Daenerys sat outside with her handmaids and the two sheep, letting the sun touch her skin the way they said was good for the child. She looked around at the clean streets, the easy laughter, the iron walls that actually kept trouble out.
"You people live well here," she said, half laughing. "I could almost stay."
Beautiful Sheep answered without hesitation. "If you want to join us, Princess, you're welcome. But we don't fight other people's wars. We won't march south and bleed for a throne made of melted swords. Steel isn't beautiful. Gold is."
Doreah snorted. "Women like pretty things. Nothing shameful in that."
Daenerys nodded, fingers brushing the simple chain at her throat. "Pearls. Rubies. A good diamond. They pull at us the same way."
A loud snore rose from the grass nearby. Something rolled out of the bushes and flopped into the sunlight.
Lazy Sheep blinked up at them, his wild tuft of hair sticking out in every direction. The handmaids started giggling.
He yawned, spotted Daenerys, and pointed. "Who's the new one? She's got white wool on her head like us."
More laughter. Warm Sheep shook her head. "She's Princess Daenerys. Dragon blood. A guest. What were you doing in the grass?"
"Sleeping. Dreaming." Lazy Sheep's ears twitched. "I saw big gray wolves. They built a fort way up north in the ice and snow. Scared me half to death."
Daenerys went still. She had dreamed of fire and wings and a throne that burned. She had dreamed of a crow with three eyes and a sword made of darkness.
"My family has seers," she said quietly. "Maybe the gift runs in me too."
Beautiful Sheep glanced at the others. "Then we should take her to the Sheep Witch. She sees what the rest of us miss."
Daenerys stood. "All right. Let's go."
---
The hut sat in a quiet corner of the village, away from the main paths. Thick thatch covered the roof. Rough timber walls had weathered to silver-gray. It looked like it had grown out of the ground itself.
Inside lived the oldest sheep in the village. Her face was lined deep, but her eyes behind the round spectacles stayed sharp. She spent her days sitting in the small yard, breathing with the wind, or bent over old books no one else could read. Sometimes lost sheep found their way to her door. She fed them, listened, and sent them back steadier than they arrived.
The door was shut. Beautiful Sheep knocked.
"Knock knock! Grandmother Witch, it's us!"
A latch lifted. The door opened a crack. A head covered in soft white wool peered out, spectacles perched on her nose.
"Oh, Beautiful Sheep. And the others. Come in, come in. I put the kettle on already. I knew you'd be here."
Daenerys felt the words settle in her chest like cold water.
She already knew.
The Sheep Witch truly could see what others could not.
