Chapter 205: Mothlight Guild Goes Public.
Kael didn’t waste another second.
The moment Lyra opened the bag, he descended upon the food like a starving man who hadn’t eaten in days. He barely paid attention to what he was eating, focusing only on filling the emptiness in his stomach. Lyra could only stare at him as he devoured one meal after another, occasionally reminding him to slow down before he choked himself.
Kael ignored her.
It was only after he had completely filled his stomach that he finally stopped eating, leaning back against the bed with a satisfied expression.
Not long afterward, the doctor returned with several nurses. They collected a few blood samples, ran another series of tests, and examined Kael’s body one final time.
Later that evening, Kael and Lyra were finally discharged from the hospital.
They drove home, and upon arriving, the two of them went up the stairs and entered their apartment.
Kael headed straight toward his room.
He took a long bath, allowing the warm water to wash away the lingering discomfort from the hospital. Once he was finished, he changed into something comfortable before returning to his bedroom.
He sat down on the edge of the bed for a moment.
Then he lay back.
It was time to review everything that had happened.
Kael closed his eyes briefly as he calculated the amount of time he had been unconscious.
Ten days in total.
Two days had been spent inside the Rift.
The remaining eight had been spent lying unconscious in a hospital bed.
Ten days wasn’t an insignificant amount of time.
A lot could happen in ten days.
And apparently, quite a lot had.
Most notably, there was the Mothlight Guild.
The guild had officially launched to the public while he was unconscious.
Kael wasn’t particularly concerned about that. Joy had been handling the guild’s operations from the beginning, and he had never intended to involve himself heavily in the day-to-day management anyway. Whether he was available or not, Joy was more than capable of handling the launch.
Kael picked up his phone and opened the file Joy had sent him.
The document contained the results and details of the guild’s public launch, along with information regarding their initial reception, resources, and other developments.
Kael slowly went through the report.
He took his time reading everything, making sure he understood what had happened while he was gone. The launch had gone smoothly, with no major problems occurring during the process.
After finishing the report, Kael dialed Joy’s number.
The call rang several times before she finally picked up.
"Good evening, Mr. Voss."
Joy’s voice came from the other end.
"Or should I say... Guild Master Voss?"
There was a hint of amusement in her voice.
"Congratulations on getting better. I actually arranged to send over some flowers, but with the guild launch and everything else going on, there wasn’t much time. Besides, the Association seems to be keeping far too many eyes on you right now, so it might not have even been possible to deliver any goodwill gifts."
Kael leaned against the headboard.
"Thank you, Joy. There’s no need to trouble yourself with that. The guild launch takes much more priority anyway."
He paused before continuing.
"By the way, I read the report you sent. I can say you handled the launch quite well. Good job."
"Don’t mention it. I was just doing my job."
Joy’s voice sounded rather relaxed.
"Besides, you’ve already handled most of the hard part. It would be incompetent of me not to handle the little things."
Kael nodded even though she couldn’t see him.
She wasn’t wrong.
Although it might seem like he hadn’t done much regarding the guild’s development, the few things he had personally handled were among the more difficult aspects of establishing a guild.
Funding was one.
Resources were another.
And then there was Rift procurement.
The Rifts he had acquired through the Association, or more precisely, through the Association President, were one of the biggest advantages the Mothlight Guild currently possessed.
Rift procurement was one of the hardest parts of developing a guild.
If the Mothlight Guild had been left to grow on its own, it might have taken them years to acquire the same number of Rifts they currently possessed.
That alone showed how much his connections had accelerated the guild’s development.
Kael shifted slightly on the bed.
"So, how’s the recruitment going?"
"It’s going well."
Joy’s voice became slightly more serious.
"We’ve announced the recruitment to the public, and quite a lot of people have already shown interest. We haven’t actually started the recruitment process yet, though."
"Why not?"
"We were waiting for you to wake up before deciding the recruitment parameters."
Kael nodded.
That was actually good.
He already had a particular type of person in mind for the Mothlight Guild. He wasn’t interested in filling the guild with whoever happened to apply first. If the guild was going to grow into what he envisioned, the people joining it would matter just as much as the resources supporting it.
"That’s good. I’ll decide on that later."
Kael leaned foward.
"Now, about the attacks on our smaller branches and the logistics..."
He paused.
"Have you decided where they’re originating from?"
Silence came from the other end.
It lasted long enough for Kael to know the answer before Joy finally spoke.
"Unfortunately, no."
Her voice carried a hint of embarrassment.
"I tried digging into it, but I couldn’t find anything conclusive. On the surface, it just looks like a bunch of thugs attacking at random. But the pattern behind their operations says otherwise."
Kael’s expression became slightly more serious.
Joy continued.
"They’re too organized. Their movements, timing, and targets don’t look random at all. Someone is coordinating them."
"Any idea who?"
"Not yet."
Joy hesitated briefly.
"But I believe another guild or perhaps a large medical corporation could be behind it."
Kael narrowed his eyes.
"A medical corporation?"
"That’s just one possibility."
Joy quickly clarified.
"I don’t have enough evidence to say that with certainty. I’m still investigating."
She paused.
"Some of the attacks weren’t anything major. There haven’t been any casualties so far, and none of our operations have suffered serious damage. So there’s nothing to be overly worried about for now."
