Chapter 179: The Galloway Father and Daughter Courting Death (4)
Ginny Gable was simply astounded by the sheer frequency with which Seraphina Sterling stumbled into criminal cases. "It seems like we only ever meet because of a case! And it’s always a major one—something the top brass is paying attention to! I’m honestly in awe of your talent for attracting trouble!"
"Officer Gable, you’ve got that wrong," Seraphina said with a placid smile, her usual calm and collected demeanor returning. "You should be reviewing your own department’s performance. Maintaining peace and order in Sanford is the job of you police officers, after all."
"You have a point. Upholding public order is indeed our undeniable responsibility as police," Ginny Gable replied with a faint smile.
"However, whether these are truly random issues of public order or if there are other factors at play... well, you’re the one who would know best!" Ginny Gable gave her a long, meaningful look. ’He didn’t actually harbor any ill will toward Seraphina Sterling. In fact, he was rather impressed. A seventeen-year-old girl from an ordinary family would typically be doted on by her parents, living a life of ease where she wouldn’t have to lift a finger.’
’Yet here she was, shouldering her family’s burdens and protecting them in her own way. She’d gone toe-to-toe with the malicious Frank Ford in a battle of wits. She’d fearlessly stood up to the harassment of thugs like Scar and Blondie. And now, faced with Miles Galloway, one of the most powerful entrepreneurs in Sanford, she remained just as unflappable.’
’Her quick wit, intelligence, optimism, poise, and quiet perseverance all combined to give her a dazzling radiance that naturally drew people in.’
"I’ll be counting on you, Officer Gable. I hope you can bring the guilty party to justice as quickly as possible. That way, I won’t have to live on edge every day," Seraphina said with a gentle smile. In reality, she greatly admired this officer and his passion for detective work.
"Rest assured! It’s our duty," Ginny Gable said happily. Her faint smile seemed to lift his spirits, brightening his entire mood.
’Of course, his mood would be even better if not for that murderous glare.’ His superiors had warned him about this man—that he was a major figure with a powerful background. They said he was arrogant, conceited, and utterly reckless, and had specifically instructed him not to provoke him.
Before leaving, Ginny Gable glanced over at Terrence Grant, who was still radiating a murderous aura. He immediately caught the potent warning in the man’s dark eyes. ’Though he wasn’t sure what exactly he was being warned about, he decided it was best to play it safe.’ He gave a slight nod and made a hasty exit.
’His own position wasn’t secure enough yet; he couldn’t afford to be making powerful enemies.’
"He’s long gone, but you’re still staring," Terrence Grant’s voice dripped with jealousy. "He’s just some cop. Is he really worth looking at? He’s not as handsome as me, not as capable as me, not as powerful as me, and not as rich as me! Instead of wasting your time looking at him, you should be looking at me!"
Terrence Grant strode right in front of Seraphina, his tall frame completely blocking her view.
Seeing him relapse into one of his arrogant, rich-boy fits, Seraphina sighed in resignation. "Maybe you’re right. Maybe Ginny Gable can’t compare to you in any way. But I happen to enjoy looking at him. What’s that got to do with you?"
Seraphina’s words were like striking a match to a stick of dynamite. Terrence Grant’s dark eyes blazed with a furious fire. "Seraphina Sterling—you dare like him? Have you forgotten what I told you? Hmm?"
Terrence Grant gripped her chin between his thumb and forefinger, forcing her to meet his gaze. "I told you, I’ve set my sights on you! In this life, you can only be my woman! I forbid you to look at other men. I forbid you to like other men!"
His tone was domineering, a forceful declaration of his ownership over Seraphina Sterling.
