Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me

Chapter 214: THE OTHER INTRUDER

Keisha’s POV

My hand closed around the other side of the journal, refusing to let go. For several seconds, neither of us moved.

I was still gripping one side of Elder Osric’s journal, while the hooded stranger on the other side held the opposite end just as tightly.

I could hear my own breathing, fast and heavy, from the shock of finding someone else in the room, but the other person wasn’t saying anything either.

We were both staring at each other, each apparently trying to figure out who the hell had gotten there first and why they were wearing the same kind of dark clothing I was wearing. I pulled at the journal again, and the stranger pulled back.

The movement made the hood slip slightly from my head, and when I turned to keep my balance, my stomach pressed against the front of the oversized hoodie. That was when the other person suddenly went completely still.

A sharp gasp escaped her. "Keisha?"

I froze because I knew that voice.

My fingers loosened around the journal as I stared at the person in front of me. She slowly pushed her hood backward, revealing a familiar face that looked just as shocked as mine probably did.

"Nadia?"

Her eyes were wide as she stared at me for a moment, then her gaze dropped.

My loose black clothes had hidden most of my stomach in the darkness, but when I had turned, the fabric had pulled tight enough for the shape of my pregnancy to become obvious.

Nadia’s mouth parted in shock. "Keisha? What the hell?"

I stared at her, completely stunned. Of all the people I could have expected to find in Elder Osric’s bedroom in the middle of the night, Nadia was nowhere near the top of the list.

I loosened my grip on the journal slightly, but she did the same, and neither of us actually let go. For several seconds we simply stood there staring at each other, both of us trying to understand what we were seeing.

Then a sound came from the bathroom. Both our heads snapped toward the closed bathroom door.

Water was still running.

But I knew we didn’t have much time. We had to leave.

I grabbed Nadia’s wrist with one hand and the journal with the other, pulling her toward the bedroom door. She immediately understood what I meant without either of us needing to say it. We moved as quietly as we could, but the old floorboards beneath our feet creaked once.

The shower stopped and we both went still.

There was a brief silence from behind the bathroom door as though Osric was waiting to hear the sound again, then the handle moved.

Oh fuck.

I yanked Nadia into the hallway, and we ran.

The door behind us opened almost immediately. "Who’s there?" Osric’s voice thundered through the room.

We didn’t look back once. Our footsteps pounded against the floor as we rushed down the hallway, the journal still wedged between Nadia’s hand and mine. I could hear Osric moving behind us, followed by the sound of another door opening.

Then an alarm exploded through the house, sounding a warning that intruders were in the house.

Voices started from downstairs as guards began moving through the mansion. "Search every room!"

I pulled Nadia around the corner just as two guards appeared at the far end of the hallway. We ducked back immediately, pressing ourselves against the wall until their footsteps passed.

The guards moved farther down the corridor, their voices fading as they checked the rooms one after another.

I looked at Nadia and her expression mirrored mine.

There was no time to think about what either of us was doing there. We had been caught inside Osric’s house, and if we were found with the journal in our hands, there would be no explanation for it.

I tightened my grip around the journal and motioned for her to follow.

We slipped out from our hiding place and hurried in the opposite direction.

We reached a staircase and rushed down, only to stop when voices came from below.

"Upstairs! Check the west wing! Don’t let them get outside!"

Nadia grabbed my arm and pulled me back before we ran the other way.

The problem was that neither of us knew where the exit was.

The house was larger than I had expected, and in the darkness every corridor looked almost identical. We passed one doorway after another, turning whenever we heard guards approaching. At one point I pushed open a door and found myself staring into a room filled with furniture covered in white sheets and I shut it immediately.

Wrong room.

"We’re going to get caught," Nadia whispered.

"Don’t even fucking start!" I hissed.

Her voice was filled with panic. "Where are we supposed to go?"

"I don’t know." I threw my hands up in exasperation.

We rushed around another corner just as footsteps approached. I grabbed Nadia and dragged her behind a tall cabinet positioned against the wall. We squeezed into the narrow space beside it, barely managing to hide ourselves before two guards passed.

A few seconds later, another voice called from farther down the hall. "Nothing here!"

The guards moved away, going on to check other places.

Nadia slowly lifted her head. "We need to leave."

I looked down the hallway.

Where the fuck were we going?

We had managed to get into the house and we had managed not to have been seen. None of that mattered if we couldn’t actually get out.

Another set of footsteps sounded and we both ducked again.

This time, however, the footsteps didn’t pass, they stopped and I held my breath as a figure appeared at the end of the hallway.

I almost thought another guard had found us until the figure lifted one finger to their lips before throwing their hood off.

Klein.

Oh, thank the goddess. He looked from me to Nadia, then at the journal between us. He didn’t ask a single question, he simply turned and motioned for us to follow.

We moved immediately. Klein led us through a narrow passage I hadn’t noticed earlier, keeping close to the walls whenever voices sounded nearby.

He knew exactly where he was going, never hesitating at a corner or stopping to figure out which direction to take. Nadia stayed close behind him while I followed with the journal pressed against my side, one hand instinctively resting over my stomach whenever I had to move quickly.

The alarm was still sounding throughout the compound.

We passed through another corridor, down a small staircase, then through a side passage that eventually opened into the outer grounds. Klein looked around before motioning us forward again.

We followed him until the house was far enough behind us that the shouting became muffled.

Only then did Nadia stop and she dropped to the ground.

For a moment, she simply sat there, breathing hard, both hands pressed against the ground as she tried to catch her breath.

"Oh my God," she said, staring back toward the mansion. "We almost got caught."

I stood beside her, still trying to slow my own breathing as I looked down at the journal in my hand.

We had almost been caught.

But right now, the most important thing was that... What was Nadia looking for there?
